Got some counterfeit VTC5a's at a local shop

Primo Glass in Brunswick Maine. It's really a cool little shop with half of their store being dedicated to vaping. The staff is friendly and their prices are fair. My issue is that I recently bought some VTC5a's and they had insulators that were glued on and the plastic looking part under the insulator ring (what's that part called?) was not white like it is on a VTC5a.

I've recently had a couple batteries vent and they came from this shop. When I went to re-wrap one of the cells I got there I discovered this, then proceeded to check all of the cells that I got from this shop (I mark all of my cells with the date of purchase and what vendor I got them from). Every one of them were counterfeit.

I just called them and let them know. I could tell from his voice that this was one of the employees and not the owner but I hope he passes the message along. I also left a review on google explaining the situation. I really hope that they rectify this by letting their customers know that they may have purchased counterfeit cells. This is a cool little shop and I just hope that they did not know. I will go back there in a couple weeks and buy a VTC5a to see if they have been replaced with genuine cells.

If I go back in a couple weeks and they are still selling counterfeit cells is there anything else that I can do to keep people from buying these?

I'll call back in a few days and make sure he got the message.

If it was me and how I dealt with an issue at my favorite vape shop I would go in person and let the owner know what his employees did or did not do. But that is just me and how I deal with something I think is important. Had my Vape Shop selling batteries I did not have a high opinion of and although the Manager defended them they do not sell those cells any longer.

The owner is the one who sold them to me. He just recently hired someone. I'll try to talk to the owner when I get a chance but it's not like they know me or it's my favorite vape shop. I hardly ever go to B&M vape caves. I live over an hour away so just showing up and trying to catch the owner isn't worth my time. When I go through there in another few weeks I'll stop in.

Still if you want to make a difference you have to go to the top. Again just my fucked up opinionated opinion. :vino:

FYI - it has always been my understanding that the vast majority of 18650 batteries sold at B&M are counterfeit - same as from Amazon, eBay etc.

Wholesalers pass them off as authentic and the retailer is just as ignorant as a lot of consumers....
