Fused Clapton Flattening

Built a few fused claptons now, and they all vape just fine, but I was wondering - I've seen a few people flatten it once wound, be it with a hammer, pasta machine, or whatever. Does it make an improvement though?
Thinking logically, I would have thought that if your finished wire is slightly oval it has a little more space internally than if it were flat, surely for wicking purposes that's better?

But in the flattening process wires could be squeezed together decreasing ramp up time due to the greater conductivity....its swings and roundabouts you should build the same build (exept one flattened one original) in the same kind of atty and compare results....

Also on the negative side, the flattening could result in a loosening of the bends at either side, albeit pretty minute unless a big chunky coil. Yes good shout, I'll try one with and one without and see, though I shan't be shelling out for a pasta machine!

It'll be just fine. I work with flattening wires on a fairly regular basis, and have never had any problems.

They can - flattening can increase surface area (depending on how much you flatten the wire). Theoretically, increased surface area equals more juice vaporized.

Ah ok. I was thinking that the increased internal space from being not quite flat would help carry more juice. But I guess you're right in that flattening would create a better contact with the cotton. I'm going to try my hand at an alien build tomorrow, so I'll flatten that and see how it performs.

Only thing is, as it's my first alien I don't know whether to start with 3x28 cores and 34 wrap, or 3x30 cores and 34 wrap. With the diameter and wraps I like, on dual coils, I'll likely end up with around a 0.25 ohm build with the 28 cores, or 0.36 ohm with the 30s.
