What's Your Personal Favorite Mech Mod?

I'm pretty sure I'm going to order one, but before i do.. Do you really recommend this, or is there another one you think i should get, that in your opinion is better? I'm only going to get one mech only I'm not going to collect them.. And could you post a picture with it having a 24mm atty on it? thanks :)
Define "better". You know, there's preference-based pros and cons to every mech so what more can I say... I own 15 mechs each one I love or else I simply wouldn't have gotten them in the first place as I buy all my mods from a local shop so I always look at a mod in person before I throw my money over the counter... what priorities are you looking for?

Yeah i wish i could look at them lol, but the closest vape shop that actually have mechs is 2 hours and 30 minutes away from me... And man i wish they made it a 24mm since most of attys are 24mm.. (thanks for the picture) I've just been researching for about 2 weeks now and it's driving me insane trying to decide on one, that's why i ask if you really recommend it because i really don't want to be disappointed.. And i can not $ afford $ a mistake. As for what I'm looking for, one that has been colorized (preferably black) so i don't have to polish it lol.. (really liked this one alot.. but of course it's a 26mm really looking for a 24mm) 2nd, of course a "Hard Hitting" mech, one where i won't have to upgrade due to performance, (I'm a low Ohm builder) and 3rd, a 20700 mech. I would've bought this one in a heartbeat but it being a 26mm is really making me decide if i want too. :(

Edit: And of course a hybrid..

Well AFAIK the only 24mm single 20700 tube mechs that are black are the XXX black and the 11:11 black so because they are both decently built, hard hitting, and affordable, they are what I'll recommend. But like I said, IMO the iJoy 20700 battery only really shines in a stacked mech so my 2nd piece of advice would be to also grab the (sold separately) extension for it... it also comes in black... you don't have to use the extension piece until you feel comfortable with the mod in single battery configuration, and, with a dual coil build at .28 ohms you will be vaping close to 200 watts, as well as you will be below the CDR of the batteries thereby causing the battery life to be not just doubled when compared to using only a single battery at .1 - .11 ohms, but more than tripled instead. I've been thinking maybe that is why they've called it the XXX stack... this stack enables me to chain vape frequently and for hours on end, but without needing to grab the next battery every hour. In fact if I try to avoid chain vaping, then I can actually even vape on this setup all day long without changing out the batteries. The same cannot be said about ANY single battery mech mod TBH.

I’ve got a Copper Able Mod and a Brass Colt 45 and they are both excellent mods.
10daea8b57e09c84f55c94f4afedab6f.jpg

If I could choose only one, I would go with the Able over the Colt 45 just due to a few things that are mostly preference.
One being that the Able Mod uses a set of magnets in the button assembly, where the Colt 45 is spring loaded...I just happen to prefer magnets over springs.
ec7d4ddaa01a2178344f489aa6884526.jpg

The other is weight...the Colt 45 seems to be a much heavier mod, but again...that’s a preference type of thing.
Lastly is the the fact that I can lock down the button on my Able Mod preventing it from auto-firing when I’m carrying it in a pocket or setting it down, where the Colt 45 has only the fact that it uses a very stiff spring to keep this from happening...just a bit of peace of mind knowing that there’s 0% possibility of an auto-fire as opposed to it being just “more than likely” not going to auto-fire
dc8b5f8231d20a760ccd4e5d9c1b40d0.jpg

Both of mine hit impressively hard and I would recommend either of them based on my personal experiences with mine, but like I said, if I was told I could only keep one of them, I’d keep the Able Mod over the Colt 45, but I’m also partial to copper mods over Brass and can’t vouch for any differences there might be if I had a Copper Colt 45 and Brass Able or both of the same metal to do an apples-to-apples comparison with.

You're not drinking water are you?! You realize that stuff is found in antifreeze!?!

That Able is so nice.

Went to the shop two hours away. Felt all the Purge mods and the Barebones kit, and the Kennedy 20700, and i gotta say they are so small in person lol my top 4 choices are

1. Barebones kit
2. Purge B2B V3
3. Kennedy 20700
4. 11.11

The Kennedy had the smoothest softest button, which can be good but also bad.. maybe a little to soft but felt really good. Do you have the 20700 Kennedy?

No, I don't have it. Today I saw the Vaperz Cloud Sarov black with the Voras RDA black on it... the fire button is the same as that of the XXX/11:11, only slightly bigger because this mod is not only compatible with 20700 and 18650 batteries, but 21700 and 20650 as well so... once the Samsung 30T battery will be commercially available to consumers it will be another game changer because that's a true 40 amp battery... I dunno why you didn't like the 11:11 mod as much as the other ones you listed, but personally, I, like my two XXX stacks just as much as my Barebones kit despite the XXX and the Barebones are obviously very dissimilar.

Hmm.. yeah i was looking at the Sarov online looks clean.. As for the Barebones vs the XXX, or 11.11 i just prefer the looks and the feel of the barebones better, but i do like the idea of getting a stacked 11.11 for the same price aswell still don't know what i want lol it's all about performance now between those 4 choices i don't know which would perform better.. probably the Purge b2b v3 with silver contacts, but they are out of stock everywhere to
get them. :headbang:

Also would you say the Barebones kit hits harder than the xxx, or you can't tell a difference?

The Back To Basic V3 is still in stock. http://fasteddiesvapedistro.com/shop/purge-mods-back-to-basic-v3/ But if going this route I would order the silver spring along with it because I find that, on all six of my Purge Mods tube mechs, with the silver spring the button throw is slightly more relaxed/smoother, and then the mod hits a tiny little bit harder as well.

I can't tell much of a difference between the Barebones and the XXX as for how hard they hit. I'm under the impression the XXX hits hardest, but I haven't done any actual measurements... they both hit hard so I wouldn't lose my sleep over it.

Even though I do not use tubes mods as often as I used to but the Mad dog Mods has been my favorite., even though not fully unregelated but the noisy cricket 2 has been one of my favorite dual batteries, its versatile with its diffrent modes,
Mad dog Mods 25mm silver plated, I love the design of the switch and conductivity is great, thread on the hybird cap is not the best but overall i love this mod.

Okay well i need your help on this choice this is my final choice.. It's either the Barebones or the Purge b2b v3 in copper, which one would you say would preform a little better than the other? And what's your mech that you use most daily? I'm not sure if i asked you that before tho.. (still thinking a little bit about the 11.11)

Edit: Also do you think i should get the copper version for the Barebones? would it be more conductive do you think?

Between those two, the Back To Basic V3 would be my pick. It's not just about the performance, but also about how they are built. :giggle:

As for what I use most daily. It varies... :D Seriously, though, without that X-Tension piece my XXX wouldn't get a lot of use. With the X-Tension it is much more comfortable to hold in my hand whilst I'm pressing the fire button. So IMO the XXX/11:11 are meant to be used in dual series "stacked" configuration. It's just a better mod if using it that way IMO... but hey, that's only me. Looks aren't bad, albeit if I'm going to impress someone I'll just grab my Admiral hand engraved by Mathew Hagermann... it vapes really nice too ya know. If I want something that doesn't bulge my jeans pocket, then I'll take my RNV Designs Sebone. But right now the mod I use most daily is my Purge Mods King Blood Stain. It is the most comfortable to hold, and it is cerakoted so I don't have to spend as much time polishing it. Congratulations, Purge Mods... I think we have a winner! ;):):D:cool: :cloud:

Okay thanks for the help.. Wish they had a different color like pearl copper like the v2 does, i know the truck has different colors. What's the difference between the v3 and the Truck? been trying to figure that out, might just get that if there are no differences other than color.

Edit: Nvm they are only brass.. :(

Anyone who hasn't seen this things needs to check em' out. The NATO by Vaperz Cloud X Asylum Mods... I snagged a Brass With matching Voras RDA... they have SS, and Black Cerakoted Copper too... I want a black also to swap switches! The switch is nuts! It's a solid brass marble, the click and feel is so smooth and it has yet to misfire... All silver contacts, and it's really unique in that it fits 18650/20650/20700/21700's. I've been using the iJoy 21700 and HG2's and HE4's and have been happy... I need to get some 5 lug 20700 iJoys, and am working on it.

I'm in love! This marble switch is one that really hasn't been done before. I'm staunch proponent for innovation, but in mech mods we've seen simplification grow as what is the solid innovation, In my opinion, easy adjustments, etc... this has a long pin for 18650's and a short one for others. It is telescoping silver with a silver spring, so you just screw the atty on and get some tension and the spring adjusts... it's a hard hitter for brass, no misfires, and it's DAMN GORGEOUS.

They just dropped the Sarov also. Another all battery mod that matches the Voras, but it's a auto adusting Hybrid... they're killing it right now... I think the NATO switch looks like the Eye of Saron! Definitely a great mod, and the atty matches so seamlessly. The cyclops air seems to alway match up with the venting on the top, which is directed up and out wards away from your face, with bottom venting as well...

I'll stop gushing, I just haven't been in love with a single battery tube in a while... since my Ables and Broadsides... I go stacked usually.

Enjoy the Button Porn!

@Carambrda What do you use to clean your copper mods? And does it normally smell like a penny lol? And what's weird i have a different button than what other websites show i have the Purge star button when it's supposed to be the Skeleton Girl button, is that normal?

I only have one copper mod, it is The 99 by Vapergate. I'm letting it grow its own natural patina because if I dare to polish it, it just attracts the fugliest fatty fingerprints, and, I don't see myself wearing gloves all year around to prevent that from happening. Another option I guess would have been to add a DIY custom patina, but IMO the natural patina still looks better on this particular mod. It did start to smell like a penny at some point, but I solved that problem by rubbing juice spills onto it, evenly spreading out the little bit of juice with my hands until the entire mod was covered in just a very thin layer of juice before I washed my hands. After letting it sit for a while I rubbed the juice off with a dry microfiber towel. I kept repeating this process each time when the smell came back. After about a dozen times the smell just stopped coming back, and the patina is still growing. But I polish my brass mods with Cape Cod Polishing Cloths:

https://www.capecodpolish.com/collections/all/products/foil-pouch-cape-cod-metal-polishing-cloths

https://www.capecodpolish.com/colle...y-size-tin-of-cape-cod-metal-polishing-cloths

These polishing cloths are the very best there are, for all fine metals, including copper. I say they are the very best because they give a completely invisible protective layer that keeps the metal shiny for almost twice as long (it works!) compared to other polishing stuff, and, it actually smells nice. You need these polishing cloths. You really need them.

According to pictures I found, the button on the B2B V3 has the star logo: http://vvs619.com/store/Purge-Back-to-Basics-v3-20700-Copper-Mod

Yeah if you're the kind of vaper who chain vapes and who doesn't give the RDA much of a chance to cool down. Also, what's your RDA again and what kind of build/ohms? And what's your battery? As for the battery, don't let the battery temperature go frequently above nor ever far above 45°C/113°F if you want it to give you decent longevity. (At about 40°C/104°F the battery performs best.) I know there are those who buy new batteries every 3 months, but... I put my mod down the moment I feel something is getting a bit warm in there. I find that .11 ohms on a single 5-legged iJoy 20700 battery doesn't give the battery much warming up.

I put a little bit of contact spray on the contacts and threads. Contact spray dissolves dirt and removes oxidation. The Cape Cod polishing cloths are only used to make the mod nice and shiny again. I just swipe some of the polishing grease onto the mod, and, next, I rub the mod with my hands and fingers. Doing that prevents the black oxidation that comes off of the mod from going into the Cape Cod polishing cloth. I just keep rubbing the greased up mod thoroughly for some minutes until finally, I rub off the the black oxidation stuff by using a microfiber towel (the kind that you use to polish your car). After that, I use a 2nd microfiber towel to make the mod look completely shiny. The reason why I use a 2nd one for that is because I don't want to rub the black stuff back onto the mod. Now, here's another excellent tip IMO. If you wash the microfiber towel in the washing machine, then if the water contains too much minerals you'll get microscopic limescale particles inside the microfiber towel after it dries. Those particles will make tiny minuscule scratches on the mod so that's not good. To prevent this from happening, after you take the microfiber towel out of the washing machine just put it in some water that, beforehand, you boiled by using an electric kettle. The resistor (heating element) that's in the electric kettle will collect most of the minerals. Take the microfiber cloth out again, and let it dry. (The electric kettle you use for this purpose doesn't need to be a brand new one.)

EDIT: Don't boil your microfiber towel.

I have a copper drugga rda, and a 5 legged ijoy 20700, also my build is 0.12 but i put a .23 build on it, and it still got warm. But it's not really getting warm anymore.. I bought the cape cod tin box kit off of amazon. I think it comes with a buffing cloth (microfiber cloth) so i should be all set, as for contact spray imma have to go buy that i guess.. spending so much damn money lol :(

Contact spray is reasonably cheap, though. And you only need to rub one or two drops on the contacts and the screw threads every once in a while.

@Carambrda Holy shit.. i have no idea what just happened. I always fire my mech before i vape (thank god i do) and this time i noticed one of the coils was glowing red, and the vape was very different (smelled like it was burning and little vapor production) so i fired it a couple more times to see what it was doing.. and then "BAM" it caught on fire, i quickly blew it out and took the battery out right away, and threw the coils in the trash. Have any idea what happened? i have no idea what caused it to do that. I was vaping on those coils for the past 2 days, they performed perfect. My build was 20g NI80 6 wrap 3.5mm ohm'ed out to 0.1 and i checked it about 6 times on my regulated devices and my ohm meter.. This scared the shit outta me, I'm a little scared of it now.

Sounds like some of the wraps were pressed too closely against each other. If they touch, then that's the result you'll get. Normally the springiness of Nichrome80 wire is enough to get the necessary tiny little bit of spacing, and in fact you can reduce the wrap spacing, repeatedly a few times if needed, by using ceramic tweezers immediately after pulsing at low wattage till the coils glow orange (on a regulated mod or build station, not directly on the mech─for safety). But mounting the coils into your RBA can create some added tension that can mess up the wrap spacing, and, if you pinch too hard with your tweezers... you get the picture. So you can use your Phillips head screwdriver or coiling tool to wiggle around inside the coils a few times after dry firing, scrape the tip of your tweezers along the length of each coil, pulse a few more times, and keep working it like that to kind of mold the coils into perfect shape. Give it a few good (low wattage) pulses after that... orange glow, not yellow/orange. Firmly tighten the screws of the post holes both before and after the entire process. But don't apply brute force.

That being said, after a couple days of initial use, new coils often tend to have moved a tiny little bit, which can again create some added tension. Re-tighten the screws in the post holes again, push/pull the coils back into their original position (by using the same screwdriver or coiling tool inside the coil), wiggle around inside the coils again (by using the same tool), and glow them (low wattage) to see if everything looks right. Re-measure the ohms, re-wick, juice up, re-measure the ohms again. Another thing I find is that fused claptons instead of simple round wire builds help to greatly reduce the chance of a coil burning out the way yours did. And they offer a vast improvement as for how it vapes (and tastes) compared to using simple round wire or parallel round wire builds IMO. Fused clapton coils are easy to make.

The Kennedy had the smoothest softest button, which can be good but also bad.. maybe a little to soft but felt really good. Do you have the 20700 Kennedy?

I have three of those mods - well an XX not an 11:11

I'm a huge fan of the stacked XX mods or stacked 11:11 - never did me wrong - and it is among my best set ups (although the stacked broadside coming my way (extension tube) might make me rethink. The 11:11 has a great button throw, IMHO. Of course so does the Broadside.

Barebones is okay but not as nicely put together as the Purge B2B V3. I'm not a Purge fanatic but they are really good with the silver contact and spring.

I had a Kennedy Ruby. I did not like the switch but that's just me. I nevr found it that smooth but I never had the 20700.

Now my favorite set up of all is my stacked 2five SS Dragon mod. Just got it recently and it is impressive ---

Agree about the XXX (or 11:11 or UK LE) stacked... I own four different stacked XXXs plus a fifth extension tube myself now. I didn't get the Broadside, as I got the hand engraved Admiral as well as the hand engraved The 99, and the regular edition The 99, but anyway, I also agree the button throw on these is just as nice as on the XXX, only different of course.

The Barebones kit I also own (as well as the limited edition Ghost Ship kit and the Evil Twin kit). I don't think it would actually be fair to make the kind of comparison with Purge Mods like that because, frankly, you really do get a fuck ton of value for your money if you decide to go with a Deathwish Modz tube, and that will always be my view despite I currently own fifteen tube mods by Purge Mods (plus two of their squonkers).

That said, two of my most recent additions, and real favorites too of course, are these:

Actually a B2B V3 is not that expensive - just does not come with the atty like the Barebones. I just traded for my second Rogue LE - love their red spring. And how it needs no adjustment.

There are a few of use with mechs in the dozens hanging out here. It's hard picking just one --- I have criteria that I don't waver from now though:

1. Easy to adjust or no adjustment required
2. Easy to maintain (hate the Rigs --- too hard to get the button out for cleaning as an example)
3. Has accessories (silver pins and extension tubes, and extra sleeves, etc.)
4. Smooth button throw with no misfires.

Now I'm willing to forgo some of the accessories but the rest of the list --- too important to ignore for me.

I have owned over 20 Mechanical mods over the years and this setup with a Drop RDA and Samsung 30T 21700 Battery is the best I have ever owned! Hits harder than any of my Parallel mech mods with any pair of 18650 batteries I put in it. If anyone is looking for a new Tube mod, this is the one I recommend to everyone!

The R6two SBTR needs no adjustment, and there are no screw threads so the button comes out with just a simple pull (clutch system) as well as is really easy to take apart in virtually no time at all. The only accessory for it AFAIK is the matching cap that fits on every 24mm Goon RDA in such a way that the Goon deck will be completely hidden from view so it doesn't ruin the aesthetics no matter the color of the deck, and, because the button throw is also comfortable with no misfires, I'm chalking this off as another serious hard hitter (especially the copper version, as I'm really starting to believe that one has a voltage drop below zero o_O) and that looks and feels... well, you get the picture.

Just not a big fan of boxes. I had my newest ( a MRN ) for all of one week before I traded it for a Rig V2 set up - not a great mod but meh. I have a different favorite almost every week. But I'm happy to use any of the following:

these generally stay at home but get an occasional outing:

1. Any of my Purges - all have silver contacts
2. Any of my TVLs - I heat treated their 35 pound springs and now they hit nice and soft
3. Either Broadside or Admiral - love that damn button and soon I will stack the broadside
4. LE Rogues with that great red spring - have two
5. Stacked Dragon mod
6. Any of my AVs - @avidlyfeftw
7. Stacked Vapoercloudz XX

then I have my real daily beaters:

1. Chronicle
2. Dreamer
3. Rig V2
4. Manhatten Duvo - yes I consider it a beater
5. Limitless - my first mech so I need to keep it
6. Vgod Pro Elite - picked it up here.
7. A-mod simple - so tiny for a 18650

I tried squonking. I tried high end regulated with fancy RTAs. I tried pods. In fact over the years I have tried everything. I started with Provaris and mech tubes (Kultura, Stingray, Viggo, etc.) Still have a few on the shelf and still have my Provari mini. I escalated to all sorts of regulated and pods - well, I review. But honestly, these days I'm all mech. I did have quite a few boxes here and there - mostly Phillipine made. Never really got into them. I do like my Tesla 3 and I'm getting another Hexohm. I use them as beaters too up in cottage country. In Canada - when winter comes - magnets can just shatter in the cold, tanks leak, etc. I'm also traveling up to the mountains and back. So RDAs are a neccesity.

Had an interesting conversation with Albert Lee the other day - he the designer and producer of the B2K and fancy squonk bottles. He uses a TK often and has a few Purges. We discussed the trend iof people replacing magnets with springs. You know in the old days people were replacing springs with magnets! Most of my Purges and all of his have the silver contact but neither of us use the silver spring (he has them in stock). I just remove a magnet for a lighter throw (my preference). We had a good laugh over it. People paying 40 dollars for a silver spring. Never had a hot button with my magnets!

The magnets in a Purge tube mod tend to give partial misfires if you don't hold your finger in the right spot, on some of them occasionally even a complete misfire. With the silver springs these problems are gone... I only own 7 silver springs and 5 silver firing pins because I live across the pond and Superior Vapour in the UK ran out of stock on them when I bought them, and I can't vape on all of my mods at once anyway so, despite recently a new wholesaler who carries them was started up here in Belgium, I haven't bothered to order more silverwear yet.

My Purge Mods collection:

18650:
2 × Maelstrom brass (1 of them is unserialized prototype)
3 × Assassin extension tube brass
Serenity brass
2 × Suicide King (1 brass and 1 copper... the copper is #001)
Skull Blood Stain (brass)
Karma brass
King Blood Stain (brass)

20700:
Truck Knurled Black (brass)
Mako (brass)
Turbo Stingray stacked (brass)
Twiztid Stingray extension tube (brass)
Speak No Evil 20700 (brass)
Pandora Blue (brass)
Suicide King Murdered Out (copper)
Suicide Queen Murdered Out (brass)

Squonk:
Suicide King Squonker (brass)
Rampage (aluminum)

For reasons that are obvious, I can no longer talk about Purge without also mentioning Scoundrels:

Scoundrels.jpg

BTW, that copper R6Two SBTR really does have a voltage drop below zero, but Mooch won't be capable to measure it for his "Minding Your Mechs" upcoming episodes on YouTube because "SBTR" stands for Saboteur so immediately as soon as he tries to hook it up, his test equipment will die. :D

Please dont use WD-40 (or WD-40 derivative product)to clean or lube anything that you wont clean directly after or day to day. WD-40 contains water and other ingredients that causes oxidation/corrosion over time. It was meant to be a temporary fix for small problems. If you need to clean something try some ketchup (for Copper) or a Metal/Brass Cleaner like Ro55o mentioned (Deoxit Gold). If you want to oil something to keep it clean try CLP or Royal Purple Oils and drop one dot of the oil on the threading or a few on the outside of the mod and rub it down with a paper towel, this will make the shine and surface stay clean much longer without cleaning. Just make sure that its rubbed down enough where your hands dont get oily from touching it after.

WD-40 Specialist Electrical Contact Cleaner is not the same thing as WD-40 Multi-Use Product. The former contains no water as it actually even removes condensation, and it is safe on metals including on printed circuit boards, controls, precision instruments, and sensitive electrical equipment so it causes no oxidation/corrosion in any way at all.

You would think being an electrical contact cleaner it would help prevent oxidation. Oxidation is very bad for electrical connections

Many contact cleaners contain an electrically conductive lube. While the lube may help to prevent oxidation as it coats the metal surface thus protecting that surface against both oxygen and condensation (the two main causes for faster oxidation), debris that results from arcing may stick to it and accelerate corrosion. Corrosion is very bad for electrical connections. However, the lube is actually a good thing inside a potentiometer knob/slider due to the heavy amount of friction that goes on, and, that's why many audio buffs swear by DeoxIT Gold. Other contact cleaners leave no residue so they just clean dirt/debris, they degrease, and they remove oxidation. Their degreasing effect can quickly kill a potentiometer as they remove the lube. But none of my mech mods use a pot... so I'll stick to the kind of contact cleaners that don't leave a residue. To prevent oxidation from building up, just clean often. Friction between the screw threads of the tube mech as you screw/unscrew the parts will polish away what little unevenness was caused by arcing/corrosion. Where the two metal surfaces are screwed against each other air will be squeezed out so oxidation will creep in only slowly as long as they are clean.

Seems as though you are correct, the new solvent used for the Specalist series is completely different than all the other WD-40 Lubricants/Cleaners and does do a good job of cleaning and sealing.
