Is it possible to save on coils...?

I was watching 2 different videos by 2 different YouTube users on how to save money on coils and reuse them.

The first method was to just wash it under hot water and let it dry. I’ve tried that method and that did not work at all! I let the 2 coils dry for maybe 2 weeks before repriming them. The Vapeston Avatar Nano Mesh & Smok V12 Prince coils still gave me dry hits and burned my throat like crazy.

The second method, which I haven’t tried, is to sit the coil in a bowl of Everclear. Does the second method really work? I really do not want to go out and buy Everclear (a drink I don’t like and will be wasted) on a project that will fail!

Has anyone had success on saving their coils or is it too good to be true and I just need to buy more coils?

Once the cotton is burned then the coil is toast. At $2-$3 a coil it isn't worth my time to be messing around trying to save a coil. Once it is burnt it is done but I have successfully washed a good coil that I just did not like the e-Liquid I used in it. Wash it blow it out and prime it immediately a little leftover water will make the first few puffs weak but doesn't take long to be blowing clouds bro~! LOL

I’ve nevee had success with any of the wash coil- replace cotton methods popularized among the stock replacement coils.

I’ve rebuilt the stock coils; but, that gets tedious. instead, I’ve gone the way of Rebuidavle tanks and rdas.
If you want to use Clapton’s and aliens but don’t want to make your own, several people sell them. I buy rolls of quad core and alien Claptons from advanced vape supply at 20-25$ per 30feet. A 30ft roll gets me around 60 coils. That’s between $0.30-$0.41per coil plus a big pack of 180 sheets of senshido cotton at 8$- or $0.22 per sheets one sheet is enough to wick conservatively wick 5 coils . So that’s 4 cents of cotton per coil.
In other words for $0.45 cents I can build and wick a coil. That makes for a vape I can control the performance of and not have to worry about finding coils or rebuilding something from smok or eleaf.

Edit to add- when they get funky, you take the wick out burn off the funk and rewiick... I normally get 3-8 months on a coil like this.

I’m most likely going to buy replacement coils. I’ve found them to be between $3.60-4.25 a piece depending on which brand I go with. I have 2 different tanks. I’ll probably get into coil building when I watch more videos on it. I’ve only watched about 2 videos on it. Seems to be a little more advance and/or time consuming for me. I’m an impatient kind of person, lol

You can wrap. install, and wick a coil in 10 minutes once you have a bit of practice.
I had good luck cleaning stock coils, the trick is to clean them before they get toasty; switch out every couple of days.

Why don’t you try an rda or rta? Is way cheaper and gives you more flavor and cloud production but be careful tho you have to know a little bit about rebuilding so you do it in a safe manner... the wick is cheap and easy to replace and for the coils don’t worry if you take care of them they can last for a long time and if your not really liking the coil because of either flavor or vapor production you can either dry burn it or replace it, nothing to be scared about as long as you take your time and not rush things

Cheap is always good when it comes to vaping. I feel like I’ve spent so much in juice, mods, tanks and coils already... and I’m going on 2 months of vaping, lol. Anyways, can you direct me to a good tutorial video on YouTube that got you started? Like I’ve said before, I’ve watched 2 of them so far. The 1 that I’ve watched recently didn’t show how he twisted the wire to make a spring. It was already done in the video or he edited that part out, which doesn’t help a noob like me out, haha. I’m sure you have to twist it a certain way yourself or have a tool... idk...

And you can buy all the stainless steel wire you can think of here
https://www.advancedvapesupply.com/collections/spooled-ss-prebuilt-wire

Just remember to make sure to
Build within battery limits, especially on a mechanical. Use a regulated mod or ohm meter to check for shorts and to check your resistance.

That website will tell you how many wraps to get the resistance you want.
There is an explanation onnphms law and battery safety here: http://vapingunderground.com/threads/quick-start-vapor-guide-for-a-new-vapor.204757/

A couple of tips on how to make your coils last longer-

  • DIY juice without a ton of sweetener will prolong stock coils

  • Don't run your coils too hot. Nevermind the reccomended print on the coil. Start low and work your way up to a spot YOU are comfortable with.

  • Take shorter drags. Long deep drags can fry the cotton causing shitty taste.

  • I've heard people poke their coils with a pin for faster/better wicking. I've never had to do this.

And with coils with airflow through the center, I find that airflow gets restricted from gunk build up long before the coil and wicking goes bad. As long as I don't burn the gunk by vaping too hot, I can clean the gunk off with a bristled dental brush like these,

I just run the bristles through the center of the coil then rinse the black off the brush and repeat until no more black gunk comes out. I do not run water on the coil, just the brush and a shake the water off the brush before sticking it back down the coil. I don't even take the coil off the base of the atty. Then I just go back to using that coil. I can brush out the gunk two or three times before the coil is garbage. But, I use juice that doesn't gunk coils very bad and low watts. It might work for you and it might not. But the brushes are very cheap to give it a try.
