Tariffs on Chinese goods could batter the U.S. vaping industry

.....
The tariffs could drive up the price of a vape by about 15 percent, according to industry estimates. This would be particularly painful for an industry where consumers are highly sensitive to rising prices. Nielsen Tobacco report estimates retail sales of the U.S. vapor market will be about $5.5 billion in 2018.

A study in the journal Tobacco Control estimated a 10 percent price increase in e-cigarettes would reduce sales by between 12 percent to 19 percent. The study noted that because many vapers are experimenting, rising prices could curtail future use.

One interesting point.
These tariffs are on vaping stuff that is not legal to be sold in the USA. It is not legal to sell any vaping product in the usa that was not sold here before 8-8-2016.
Vaping in the USA has lots bigger hurdles facing it than tariffs.

Think I might order another couple Pico Squeeze's though... Before the tariffs kick in.

Edit: Drat white Pico Squeeze s up to over $19 at FT....

This will suck for those new to Vaping and those who depend on factory coils. Prices will go up. Myself most all the shit that's been and continues to be released is just over hyped rehashing of the same old shit. So I'm not going to be affected much if at all.

The Trade War though that Trump started is really going to fuck us (country) all across the board.

<shrug> all the tariffs are clubs/bats.. China will change or not.

Meanwhile, the EU is just as fubar and our FDA is the biggest clusterfuck this side of congress. (even the feebs are less gefuckt - and that's a hard one to believe).

Chinese leadership is facing a rare backlash for its handling of the US trade dispute (CNBC)
A growing trade war with the United States is causing rifts within China's Communist Party, with some critics saying that an overly nationalistic Chinese stance may have hardened the U.S. position, according to four sources close to the government.
It will certainly be interesting to see how this all plays out.

In the meanwhile, I won't feel particularly sorry for anyone if their factory coils cost $1.25 instead of $1.00, or if the equally disposable mods so many people buy cost $49 instead of $39. Put it all in perspective against the cost of a carton of smokes...

They could always setup distribution warehouses in a bordering country and ship from there.

Trump didn't start the trade war and the country was already fucked across the board. When you see someone getting beat in the street do you claim they started the fight when they begin to fight back?

Not to get into a political debate, but if you actually listen to what he has said from the beginning he thinks the tarrifs are a one sided bad deal, and wants to get rid of them, period. Of course, the countries benefiting from this deal disagree, so his response was effectively "fine, two can play that game"

The problem is, the media is so caught up in trump hate and resisting no matter the scenario, they not only don't report it as such, they spin it in the complete opposite direction... And people eat it up.

No, he didn't. China was already jacking up tariffs on US goods. Trump just returned the favor. ;)

So why didn't he go through the WTO that Reagan/Bush created?

Probably because a large cross section of it's members directly benefit from the tarrifs and as such weren't interested in removing them in their entirety.

Fwiw, before you make any assumptions, I'm from Canada and voted liberal in the last election. I am, however, decidedly non-partisan and don't blindly follow any one party. Despite the fact that most people up here are soaking up the same rhetoric as America due to what and how the media chooses to report on various issues, I feel that being able to view all of this from a distance and without a pony in the race, so to speak, allows me to step back and see the big picture just a bit more clearly than some.

Umm Canada does have a pony in this race.

The powers that be might, but I personally do not. I'm not on one political team or another, and I don't have the "us vs them" mindset that seems to be so prevalent these days.

The powers that be up here don't seem to agree with me on this issue, because our government is addicted to tariff money in a big way. You wouldn't believe how badly our own government hammers it's own citizens when it comes to imports. They just hate the idea of losing a revenue stream.

The US also had Tariffs before Trump started his trade war.
