Thank you! I'll attempt a stagger tomorrow and post a photo for you to judge my ineptness at it. Ironically; Staggered Fused Clapton was my first "advanced build" I ever succeeded at. But as I used smaller and smaller wire, bifocals got stronger every year, and my patience got thinner and thinner with them; I gave up on em to perfect my Alien passion. I used to idolize the elusive Alien Clapton, and made them my goal to perfect my craft with them. I'm still working on that lol!

You need to use a normal sized screw driver for the 30mm Death Trap, you must use the space available and have the airflow restricted by coil size. If yo use normal 4mm ID coil or smaller there is too much chamber space left to make it enjoyable.

Make some pinky finger sized ID coils and try it.

Makes sense. I feel like I’m vaping rushing air with a hot coil under it.

E897BBA0-CF9A-41C8-BE69-78144EA7AB77.jpeg The last fralien I posted just didn’t seem right to me, here’s one I just made that I think will vape better. My wraps are almost never perfect it’s my biggest weakness as a builder, but the binding is better this time, and when it’s installed it’ll vape great for me. .12 ohms - always on a tube mech.

So my ex wife's new bf asked me to build him some coils for a cloud competition. Lol my wife said he's trying to make a friend. I think he's a douchebag. But only because last week he was trying to sell all his vape stuff to me. Then was like" if you know anyone with a cheap pistol I'd trade all of it," are you kidding me. I'm usually a pretty good judge of character but he looks like a tralier park m*th head to me. So anyhow. Gonna build him some staggered fused claptons tonight after the concert I play. Gonna be a long day. Any other suggestions?

Same here. My wife has bought 3 smok subvods and only smokes one flavor (that is way more expensive than diy). Lol

same, disease is an apt word. I spent about $300 yesterday, and still fighting to not spend another $90 on a Furyan

edit: I bought some nice cutters though! lifetime warranty - and I payed for that, trust me

Careful with the black. A lot of ones that are crap. No sense in buying a mod you have to work on out the box

Wow, your coils all look great.
How long did it take you all to learn this?
I have been playing all day, and I think I suck at this lol.
I can wire wrap jewelry, and I thought this would be the same.
It's not lol.
I won't give up, and I will keep getting inspiration here.
I was wondering if it would be easier wrapping the cotton, instead of pulling it through. I keep breaking it!

I’ve been building for 9 months. It just takes a little practice but the wire wants to be wrapped it all comes together easier than you think! I’d say start with 32g wrap, a 3mm screwdriver to wrap around, and maybe a little less cotton than youd think of it gets stuck. It should slide through the coil with out getting stuck, the juice will puff it up.

Hey @LeanPipe. I’ve been building for about three years but I almost never practiced for more than a half hout at a time. Some people could accomplish what I’ve accomplished in a year or less. My first builds were twisted builds, then fused claptons, then aliens, then staple variations and so on. Builds Im working on getting better at now are alien staggerton variations and enigma variations. I was the Guy who took four months or so to make a pair of alien coils. Anytime you feel like you’re stuck and you just can’t see your way through a build just remember its not a cognitive problem. Building requires the developement of muscle memory so don’t get frustrated. As long as you are practicing you are making progress, even if it may not seem as such. Keep at it and welcome to the pack!!!

The amount of information in this thread and others coupled with the amount of video tutorials will give anyone that starts today an amazing advantage over starting a few years ago when there was nothing but Alien and Clapton/Micro Coil Videos.
Today's builders have access to a tutorial on almost every type of build there is and in multiple different ways to go about them, use them to your benefit.
Nothing beats experience so pay attention to each step, find ways to make those steps easier and faster for yourself and practice, practice, practice. Not every method will work for you so try others...the more you try the more you'll understand how it all works, which allows you to find small tips that may not have been uncovered before.

Start with the simple stuff like Claptons and Aliens, then really press yourself after your comfortable with them and most likely you'll be confident in your abilities after a few tries.Any time you find yourself having a shitty time building, build something incredibly easy to pick up your confidence again....you never forget how to ride a bike, but you can become a little rusty if enough time goes by without grabbing the handle bars here and there.

Ive been building for what 4-5 years now? Time doesnt seem to matter though, look at members that just started like Meg...the motivation, effort, and persistence is what makes the difference.

When I first started building, there were YT tutorials for straightening wire, twisting wire and regular Clapton wire. I still remember the first tutorial of Alien wire. We were all gathered around my phone at the vape shop wowing, and talking about how impossible it would be. Lmao

Now I go back occasionally and watch the old tutorials, and think; "you have no idea how much easier you could be doing that". The first regular Alien coil I ever saw done took 45 minutes on YT with prep. I build Framed Staple Aliens start to finish in a few minutes. No glue, no sliders, no tape. Just me, a drill, a Spin LT, a hobby vise, and a keen sense of proper decore grip. That's not bragging. Its years of practice, failure, and determination to get it right. And if my bifocals and I can do it with the nerve damage I have in my hands; anyone can do it. Perseverance. That's all it is. Try. Fail. Try again. Fail. Try harder with increased determination. You WILL get it. Then one day; CLICK! your first Alien happens and everything just falls into place. The next thing you know you're spinning an Interlocking Framed Staple Alien with 13 cores because you're bored.

That's great. My eyesight suffered after the stroke I had when I crashed my bike three years ago. I am recovered now. I am comfortable with wire, I am doing something different to what I normally make with it. I am also shocked at the price difference with stainless steel wire and the different uses. I used to pay a lot more for 22ga stainless steel when I bought for jewelry making purposes. It is the exact same wire ffs lol.
I am just using 28agw kanthal ATM. I am determined to learn this, so thanks again for the tips and encouragement.

My eyesight isn't what it used to be either. I've been considering one of these hobby magnification lamps.
