How long can I store 18650 batteries

I quit vaping but kept all my stuff. I got rid of my bad batteries. How long can I store my others? Can they just self ignite if they get too low? They are in plastic cases. I have 18650s and 26650s.

Thanks.

Storing at low temperatures, ideally around 40ºF, at about half charge is recommended, or around 3.6-3.7v. Heat is the worst thing for the battery. Also, they loose roughly 10% of its charge per month, so recharging them up to half every 3 or 4 months would be a good idea. They can last for a few years under these conditions.

At least wait until they deplete to near what Syythe posted. It was what I read about storing batteries and not necessarily for vaping. Good Luck my friend

Thanks. They were all 100% 2 months back. I will recharge routinely.
Storing at 100% charge is actually bad for the battery, it can shorten the life of the cell quite a bit. This is why new batteries come charged at 50% or less.

No, I had not vaped in months and needed to check my batteries. I knew I had some that were in bad shape and had to get tossed in recycle. Most were paired sets. In doing this, they got charged. Now, they wont be recharged until they drop down enough.

I have them in their pairs and new singles for the ones that had bad mates.
