Coil glowing

Can someone tell me what’s going on here?
I just installed this coil and every time I hit the burner it starts to glow down at the bottom where you open the airflow

Welcome to VU. That looks like the making of a fire. Might consider trashing that coil and cutting your losses.

You have cotton in it? Or is this a factory coil?

Rip it apart and fire the coil without a wick, try to tighten the screws holding the coil, strum the coil with a metal object lightly like tweezers until you work the hotspots out.

I had one leg of a coil glow like that during dry burn it was a bad wire with a partial break inside it. It has to be replaced

Welcome @carlthess40 and I hope you enjoy your stay~!

I have a couple of questions why do you have a cloth or something wrapped around the MOD?

What wattage are you firing that coil at?

Are you actually taking a puff off that?

no I was not smoking it

I am glad you were not vaping it because that would be smoking it if you were~! :giggle:

Another question because it sort of looks like the tank is dry. Are you priming the coil before ever firing it? Never dry fire factory coils.

Yes I did prime it first That pic was after I pulled the juice out , but it was very wet and I was not burning the cotton, it was just glowing down where it makes contact with the battery part of my smok unit
Even after pulling it all apart the inside has no burn spots in it

Honestly to see the cotton have a red glow I would bet the cotton is burned since it is wrapped around the coil. How long does it take to fire it for you to get that red glow? Have you tried a different tank on the MOD? That isn't one of those coils with an LED inside is it?

Im no expert, but Personally I'd take the tank, strip it, clean it, rebuild it again slowly and cautiously try it again. If the same problem is still there I'd just get rid of it and replace the coil completely, chalk it up to a duff un from the factory.

If your on good terms with your local B&M and you bought it from there, you might be able to take it back and get a replacement coil.

It’s a new coil and non of the others I have do this. The glow is not coming from the cotton. It’s coming from where the gold tab comes into contact with the inside of where they screw together and make contact with the battery. It’s a smok stick prince

Coil not screwed in all the way?
Coil wires pinched between the grommet and coil housing?
Coil contact not making good connection to the center pin in the base?

Random bit of plutonium in the atty base?

Regardless of what it was, that coil is toast.. try another coil and inspect all the above before firing .. if it happens again your coil batch might be a dud.
This is the first I’ve heard of a glow in a subohm..

It is obviously a problem with the bottom of the coil or the post it contacts.

That’s why I don’t pay cash. I only use my Bank card. I can always get the bank to pull the funds for crap like this

Kind of looking at it the wrong way a little bit (IMO). If you had a faulty coil its kind of one of those deals that happens (especially with Smok products). It could have been a QC issue on the manufacturers side, an assembly issue on yours, stroke of bad luck, or anything in between. Sounds like the store just wanted to make nice, not that they were obligated to replace it. You would spend more than the $3 value of the coil in time trying to dispute the charge and causing issues for someone who really isn't at fault.

Sounds like a pretty good vape store and I am no champion of brick and mortar stores by any stretch. This will likely not be the last time you have this happen using Smok products. Once you take that consumable out of the wrapper, pretty much all bets are off.

I'm with Jwill on this one. From the shops perspective they don't know that your not some ham fisted idiot trying to claw money back for his own fuck up or just trying to rip off the b&m. And I'm not saying you are. Just that some people will Try anything to screw money out of others. Plus, as Jwill also pointed out, and I actually like smok, their quality control leaves a lot to be desired. I tell people this and explain that one coil may last them a month or 3 yet the next one in the pack may last a day or less. Buy the ticket take the ride. Glad it got sorted in the end though. :)

My first Pen Style MOD was the Buck Naked Slim Kit and it was great for the 1st tank full. Then the problems started with clogging and misfires. Took it back to the Vape Shop I bought it from and he said he had to speak to his supplier before he would be able to Refund my money. After a week he called me and said bring it in so I went and upgraded to an iStick TC40W and a Nautilus Mini Kit. Now 4 years later still have that MOD as my pocket friendly stealthy device. Never accept you got burned by faulty equipment.

It kind of is the B&M's fault for breaking down coil packs for profit.

If I ran a B&M i'd not even sell single smok coils unless the buyer was going to install it right there in front of me and try it before leaving the store.

If smok had astronomical QC there'd still be at least one dud in 20.

I'm unsure if smok's QC is even close to that good with coils. .(more like a dud per pack?)

When you sell a sealed pack (how it was meant to be sold) of coils and there's a dud you can easily blame the manufacturer.

If you are taking them out of the pack and selling them separate just to make MORE profit then it would be you that hands the customer the bad coil.

I wonder how cool the FDA would be with vendors splitting coil packs down for sale?

I heard the cops kill people sometimes in NY for doing the same thing with packs of cigarettes.;)

I use many SMOK Coils and have never had a Dud in all the years I am using them. It isn't Smok it is the supplier and possible counterfeits. IMO

I am not sure it was a loosy. This person made reference to others being good. if the shop is selling singles that's a whole different game. You would not even be able to verify authenticity at that point. I am operating from the assumption everything is on the up and up.

Well I no longer buy singles coils and I check the packs and make sure they are not counterfeit by using smok‘ app. And if they are I hand them right back to the counter person. I dont care what brand you buy. You will get bad units from all of them. I do know that smok has a good warranty company that handles the warranties as I just had to send my new prince stick back for a rma claim

My first mod was a Buck Naked kit as well. Mine was the Express kit. I used it for about a year till I upgraded to an eleaf iStick Basic.

The one I had had 2 batteries and cartos or whatever they were. Charged in the case but had problems. I don't think they make it anymore.

Pretty funny that when asked about it, the vape shop didn't put 2 & 2 together.
Customer complaining about a glowing smok coil... hmmm... what could that be?

Well I am a customer that goes in his store about every other week and spend at lest 100 bucks each time. So NO I’m not one of the persons your talking about and I rather support my local brick and mortar store over a internet store. That way I know my money is being spent in my community

I don't know... juice ports and base light up very much the same.

If you were generating a short strong enough to illuminate the cotton and base, you would have smoke (not vapor) and serious heat well past chain vaping a tank. Probably to the point of throwing it across the room and finding the nearest sink for cool water.

Looks exactly the same to me~!

Looked before I posted but didn't see it, should have read better.

I don't use smok mods so not sure but if they are anything like all other regulated mods, it wouldn't fire with a short. You would get an error message, not disco lights in your tank :D

Kinda like the old "blu" kit? Mine was the eGo style battery and I thought it was the greatest thing since pockets on shirts. It wasn't until the local smoke shop quit selling juice that I discovered more modern, upgraded vaping. The closest vape shop to me is about 25 miles away and I don't get out a lot. I'm way behind the curve in some ways. :)

I don't see the one I had on their Website and I think it was discontinued or redesigned. These the outlet looks a little different but it was 4 years ago and you know what they say the memory. Aside from the tanks clogging with a wax like substance I had problems with the batteries also intermittently not firing.

Yeah, that's a lot nicer and better made kit than the blu. The case was the charger for the blu as well, but it was made of plastic. Being a heavy smoker, a carto would last me maybe an hour and at 6 bucks for 5 cartos, it didn't take me long to figure out I wouldn't be able to afford that so I went back to smoking.

Back to when I was using the E-Cigs Brand with the Red LED I found out how to refill them and used to fill them, so one 5 pack lasted me a week. But like the E-Cigs Brand the Logic got too expensive so I bought the Slim Kit. When that didn't work out I went to the iStick TC40W and a Nautilus Mini. Never thought it would still be reliable 4 years later and that just proves those Know It All dumbasses on ECF who were quoting some reviewer were talking out their asses. Just like I told them back then~!
