I was shopping at Efun and saw the new Smok RHA 220W and 85W kits. It looks like they are just Aliens and AL85s. Why call it something different? Atleast put a new chip in em and slap on one of the newer tanks. The Baby V2 and Prince's are solid performers IMO. But really what's with this shit?

I get that this company isn't liked here. It's junk who cares? Horrible QC. Smok is garbage... Seriously, I don't get why they are pumping out a new batch of these oldies, with no real improvements, and calling it something else. Besides the obvious, to make money, I don't understand this.

rock bottom wholesale prices through volume translates to bigger mark up for stores, that and worldwide distribution I would imagine will have something to with it yeah

I am not seeing the Alien 220W Listed on the Smok site now? Maybe they had problems with the name and just renamed it?

Still using my Aliens and no problems. I find many issues that are reported are sort of like on the news where significant facts are left out.

You got me thinking of a different perspective. I feel like a big part of all the issues reported is the fact that for a while a few years back alien was one of the most sold regulated mods. With those numbers comes more exposure to mishaps, user error, malfunction. Not that I’m defending SMOK because I agree that their qc leaves PLENTY to desire as well as the other issues stated above me.

Several years ago, Eleaf came out with the first iStick, then the iStick30, and then the iStick50 -- all of them sold very well, thx to reasonable prices -- but only the 50w got tons of exposure due to its unfortunate tendency to auto-fire and then thermal runaway meltdown. So it doesn't wash; good mods will be known as such, and crappy ones will also be known.

The chips/components on the inside are the same, they just change the cover.
Yeah, I've seen that the past year. But this is different. These are on Pre-Sale and look like the same two year old devices/tanks, just with a new name. Back by popular demand? I just think this is strange.

Yes very strange where is the Alien on the Official SMOK page? Sure available everywhere but no product on manufacturers page.

Thousands of people buy electronics devices every day that like them simply because the marketing strategy used for keeping up all the hype has more in common with marketing strategies typifying of the fashion industry than with marketing strategies typifying of the tech industry... i.e., clearly they simply just borrowed the strategy from Apple because the "everyone follow the herd" type strategy always works, and it always works very extremely well because it costs the company no money by letting the fanboys do almost all of the marketing entirely for free.

question: I have two AL-85 devices. One broken and the other working well. Bought them before I came to VU. What would be a comparable device as far as design goes, but better quality - in y'alls opinion? I like my tanks, I like the replaceable battery and I am happy with the size. I normally run about 50 watts and my coils are .15 ohm - just seems to work ok, but those numbers are simply based on what I have. If it works well and has a proven track record I'll change over. Not a noob, but still a noob at the same time. I don't want to start building my own coils just yet. Thanks in advance.

Same way with Bose products.
It's the marketing .
Their speakers and such are actually shit.
I used to work at a shop rebuilding vintage electronics.
The things most needing rebuilding were the 901's.
Very high dollar when new although the guts only cost about $35

Yeah... I own a pair of big floorstanding speakers that have a really clean, neutral, and highly detailed/revealing sound signature. I power them with a trusty Emotiva XPA-2 Gen 1 power amp, which is a reliable solid state, whereas in vaping I'm leaning more towards tube gear. :D

thank you for the advice friends! I'll definitely check out a pico. Since I'm gonna stay a vaper, I might as well get some better quality stuff to vape my DIY quality stuff :)
Picos are reliable and very durable little devices. Mines been left in the middle of a busy street, overnight, in northern Minnesota, getting ran over most likely. It still works fine. I posted this in the beater thread-
0928181016-1.jpg

A few other single 18650 devices I have-
  • My AL85 works good.
  • I won a Vaptio Wallcrawler in a contest. The chip is awesome and fires wicked fast. But it has a wobbly 510, and the bottom cracked (cheap plastic).
  • Wismec Sinious P80 is nice to hold. It's really slender almost like a tube mod. The fire bar doesn't activate it all the time. I think you have to actually concentrate on clicking it cuz sometimes it just does nothing. Other than that its good.
  • Pioneer4you IP3D is great. It's built solid and has a Yihi chip. Its reads resistance dead on and fires nicely. It actually fires like a dual battery mod which is awesome for a little device. You can find them for really cheap. The only con I have with it is the battery door is slippery. I have to lick my fingers to pull it off lol.

Wow Just Frank, if that isn’t a great testimony I don’t know what is! Pico it will be. I’ll say it again, there’s awesome folks in here on VU. Quality of craftsmanship is my main concern and that was great proof. Thank you

It's all about marketing and they send out free the first 3,000 mods to YouTube people and get free reviews...... A real review is given when you buy the merchandise with money out of your own pocket.....

I know reviewers that get a check for $1,500 bucks and 10 to 50 free items that are being reviewed...... Now tell me are they going to say it's shit ?

Exactly. Some YouTube "reviewers" lure you to their channel with free items that you can win by becoming a subscriber... the main prize gets sent to whoever does the most internet bashing of other mods from another brand that are in direct competition with those same free items. Buttlicking the "reviewer" in question with every opportunity that occurs on an internet forum also highly increases your chance to win those items. If you dare to call them out they immediately accuse you of being a fanboy or else they create a smoke screen by trying to insinuate something very similar, and they also try to accuse you of various other things in their attempt to discredit you so the bashing doesn't stop at bashing the products, but instead goes much further than that like, for example, they falsely accuse you of repetitively misquoting/misrepresenting Mooch and then they repeat that same false accusation over and over and over. Here's a link to a perfect and very recent example of this old tactic: http://vapingunderground.com/threads/high-end-mechs.374084/page-5#post-2285190

Some are honest or try at least like that guy from Ireland Todd...... They might try and sound sincere, but they are after 1 thing and that's your money.

Vaping is not about helping you quit smoking, but about ass raping you with the next big better product....

I tell people about stuff I buy, test and know 100% is worth the money I spent on the crap.

I have never made 1 red cent on any videos or vaping stuff...... And if I spend money is on USA made equipment that helps us and not China.

This mod I just bought from Broscience Vpes is made by a guy in his garage in Peoria Arizona, he supports his family with the product....

Even the Modfather you see, but the first one only made in the USA, now they are made in China.

The Broscience mod I got it, paid for it and yes it kicks ass.... That's why I post pictures because I know it works amazing, It's built amazing and I bought it from an American Company !

Smok is a typical company that's seen in developing countries. Like Smok, most of these are just about the marketing and not about quality, innovation or after sales support of their customers. Whether Smok ever changes or not, many companies like them do change their policies and start producing better quality products and often end up providing better support after the sale. Look at LG's electronics from South Korea, originally they were called Goldstar and produced just cheap crap and now they are a leader in their field. The same thing happened with many of the Japanese companies, first making cheap copies of other products and now they make some of the best products. While it isn't yet the standard, China does have some good companies that produce good products, it's just not the standard there yet.

I second the pico as well, great little mods. You have the regular pico and the pico 25 wich will hold up to a 25mm tank.

The Pico is a wonderful little mod, it's a good one in my opinion, I Triple that ........ I had one for a week I gave it away to a smoker who now only Vapes... It held larger tanks and I believe it used a combination of either a 26650 or a 18650 cell.

I’ve been putting off getting the 21700 version and not sure why, I love the 25. Something else I’ve noticed with the picos is I seem to get great battery life, not sure on their efficiency but it seems pretty good.

Honestly haven’t tried an eleaf product I haven’t liked, I use the original lemo rta daily.

What wattage and what tank are you using? I am using a Melo III Mini at around 25 watts or so and not really getting half a day if I use it for a long period of time. Usually kill a 3500 mAh battery with my coffee in the morning.

Damn, for me they do better than dna or vaporesso (battery life) Mostly either a kayfun lite around 16-17 watts .8 ohm 28g SS 317L 6-7 wraps, or coppervape skyline and original lemo .5 ohm coil 6 or so wraps 26g ss317l @ 20 or less watts. Using the brown LG 3000 mah.

I woke up this morning and grabbed one of my Aliens. Something came to me  and I thought I solved this case. R.H.A. The Aliens are a left handed device. When you use it right handed the screen is away from you. R.H.A.....Right Handed Alien!!! Then I come back to this thread and the picture is left handed Aliens lol. I give up.
