I quit...again.

I started vaping in October of 2016. The first day I vaped I stopped cigarettes completely.

Then this past May I was going to Thailand for a month and I found that vaping is dodgy at best there. I kind of resigned myself that I'd probably smoke again, even though I brought vape gear. In the month there I saw only one person vaping. The police there can be very arbitrary and I have personal experience of that. I decided I just didn't want to take any chances because they can and have screwed some people for vaping.

So, I started smoking again. The first day I went through half a pack. Very quickly I was up to 1.5-2 packs a day, which was more than I ever smoked before. I then went to Sri Lanka and met my boys there and continued smoking. My boys were disappointed in me, but I didn't pay much heed to them. I returned in mid July and immediately cut down to 5-6 per day. I wanted to quit but I just couldn't get past those few per day.
My wife was very understanding and said I'd quit when I was ready.

I had my last cigarette on October 3 (the day I entered the military...you don't forget shit like that). The first few days were tough but I made it. It's now the 9th day and I feel fine. I don't feel the need for one any longer and I've been coughing up the nasty stuff for a few days as my lungs are clearing out again. I certainly smell better. The wife and kids are very pleased as well.

I see this message as a PSA. Sure I started again, but I never doubted I could stop again. Now I need one of those counters on the bottom of my posts, the ones that count days and cigarettes. Anyone got a link to share?

Cheers!

That is the same experience I had during the years I was a Smoker and quit for a while. Every time I went back to smoking I smoked more. Glad to hear you are back to being a former smoker again~! Good Luck

Been there, done that, as for how much harder it is to do it a SECOND time -- the only way I could get past the bone-deep cravings when I did my 2nd quit was with WTA.

Now my son is going thru the same thing, and I *suggested* (loudly and profanely since he was annoying the crap out of me with his whining!) he try some WTA in his vape, which I mixed up to taste like the clove cigars he got re-addicted to. Then he whines, "but it tastes bad!" I had to point out to him that his first quit had been fairly painless, hardly any withdrawal at all (same for me), but when you throw away a gift like that, you gotta expect some discomfort. :D Yeah, not real sympathetic since I told him I'd carry him on vaping till he finished his degree and got employed, and he wipes his feet on that free gift by going back to smoking clove cigars. :D

It's a good object lesson for me, though, reminding me that now I've done it twice... best not tempt fate by trying a 3rd time, EVER. :D

Gratz!!!

Thanks for talking to me about this before the trip, as I was a bit schizo about it. I appreciate the people here and their willingness to be helpful, it's a great place.
