I can remember my first public recipe.. my Kentucky Peachgrass, going all over the world from a post from that "other" place.. and finding out some silly vendor in Michigan was selling it out of her shop..

I remember we were all struggling to figure things out, improve and learn what we all liked and hated to mix with.. We were nicer, and most everyone got along.. the good times.. ;)

How about you.. what did you discover on your first mix? Where were you and when? :)

Was vaping all commercial menthol juices that were brown for some reason and tasted like dish water, wet leather and warm summer garbage with a hint of menthol. Mixing for me in 2011 was mainly just mixing in diluting agents and nicotine so the liquids would not taste as bad when I drank it.

these ARE my good 'ol days as I'm still pretty new to DIY. What I do want to add is - everybody is still nice, y'all have all been nice to me. Thank you for putting the GOOD in good 'ol days. 2011 I was still a pack and half a day, relay logic smoker. The digital age is great!

I started DIY winter of 2010. I have learned a lot since then. I am still a MTL person. It will never change. The best flavors I do like are from Flavorah. I like a few from a few different vendors though.

My first mixes were from Flavorwest. At the time I didn't know better. I do like a few from Hangsen and Inwera (tobacco flavors). I think I only have a few from flavorwest now. I don't bother because I know they add crap like corn syrup and such. I learned who I can trust and those who are misleading.

I'm not a super mixer. I just mix for me and my Bro & SIL. For myself-I would be happy vaping nothing but tobacco flavors till the day I die. However, the family loves deserts/cereals/fruits.

My first from-scratch mix was in December 2014, right here in my kitchen. I discovered that using LOTS of flavoring made ejuice MUCH better than this silly idea of using barely enough to make it smell good -- the mix was 31.5% flavoring. I'm still vaping that same strawberry & cream as my all-day/everyday vape, haven't found or mixed anything better in nearly 4 yrs... but I do use a lot less flavoring now, since my tastebuds have come back online -- the last mix was 23.25%.

2011 I was still a PAD smoker and would be until Dec 2013. I didn't start mixing until May of 2015. It's been mostly other people's recipes as I don't have the time needed to test and experiment due to my job. I truly appreciate those with the talent to produce these wonderful recipes! I contribute where I can, but recipe creation just ain't in my genes...

@Smoky Blue I love you and your delicious recipes and thank you for my journey in FLV and other ultra concentrates! I have saved every recipe you have posted to ELR and flvfan.com!

@AndriaD you are a blessing to VU. You vape the way you need to! Don't ever change because of others. That's the greatest thing about vaping, you get to do what works for you!

@Squonk (miss ya bro), @wllmc, @HeadInClouds, @wildgypsy70, and everyone else who has posted recipes here I would still be buying commercial juice without you!

Back in 2012 I would buy a 20ml of Menthol eliquid from totallywicked and since it was a super strong menthol I would buy the 36mg/ml and cut it in half.

So I'd get 40ml's of 18mg/ml eliquid that only almost tasted like I swallowed vicks vapor rub.:)

I came skidding in sideways in 2009 - 10.
My first "recipe" was 15% FA Orange o_Oin a mostly PG base.

That totallywicked titan range shit was 80/20 PG/VG

The "airflow" was the threads on the cigalike atomizer so it still tasted like burning.

This was me vaping the eliquid offered in 2012:

yall were way ahead of me. 2011 i was smoking black and milds and there were no vape shops to be found.

Heh... I was still sucking on VA Slims like my life depended on 'em, and if anyone asked me when I was gonna quit that shit, my answer was a very loud "NEVER!!!!!!!!!" My feeling for smoking was a lot like Denis Leary's in his hilarious bit -- 3 at a time, 5 pks a day, etc. :giggle: Then came the coldest winter in ATL in more than 30 yrs, and that tune changed sharply! And being finally a homeowner, no way in hell was I gonna pollute my lovely home with that stench. :D

Yup. Camel lights for me. I’m only 2.5 years quit. I guess we’re lucky to be in the “Golden age” of DIY. So many choices, flavor houses, innovations.....I feel lucky, anyway. :)

I bought a handful of flavors from health cabin. I had no clue and no friends lol.
I did 50/50 pg vg, 18% nicotine and 10% single flavors only.
Edit to add. I quit smoking cigarettes in 2011. I replaced them with herbs like damiana in a pot pipe. A cop came up to me one day when I was sitting in the park minding my own business lol. He had a look, and told me about how his mate quit smoking by vaping. I looked into it, and I never turned back!

18% nicotine would be 180mg/ml -- so it must have been 18mg/ml... 1.8%.

I used to buy the 36mg bottle from health cabin, and I calculated how much to use to make it 18%.
Sorry, I get what you are saying. I meant to say that I made it 18mg

It's a very confusing notation, since 100mg/ml nicotine is really a 10% dilution of pure nicotine - which is truly deadly.

In 2011 I saw a Johnny Depp movie called The Tourist. He was sitting on a train puffing away on a cigalike. I immediately was fascinated by the thing and knew that vaping was something I'd want to try. "OMG it's electronic!" I'll post a clip but it doesn't show him explaining about it.
I started going to vape shops and buying things. Paying $15 for 10ML, I'm glad that part is over. But I look back with fond memories.

a post from that "other" place..

I remember that asshole self proclaimed Guru from that other place, saying what I was doing was wrong since I wasn't using RY4 from some company he was shilling for. 4 Years later still making my Tobacco DIY recipe the exact same way and his blogs are 4 years older with the same outdated info he spews.

One of the reasons I left the DIY forum over yonder. I was a avid poster as well. So many "know it all's" with condescending behavior/traits.
