What Wire for Griffin 25 RTA and Q's about the Baby Prince Tank/coils

1.
Just got my first RTA... Used the wire that came with the Coil Master kit and it tastes nasty...

Not sure if it's the wire or the Cotton Bacon???

I've heard ppl say that certain wires can taste bad so I was wondering what everyone would recommend...

Griffin 25 RTA, Dual coil build, around .6ohm, vaping at 25 watts on a wotofo FLUX mod

THANKS!!!

Other Q's...

2.
I noticed that most of the lower sub ohm coils (.1 - .2) say they are rated for min 40-60 watts but I vape at 25 watts. Am currently using the wotofo pro flow sub tank with .18ohm coils so I am wondering why this is bad to use at 25 watts? It seems to work fine so what am I missing here?

3.
I'm also considering the TFV12 Baby Prince Tank and some Q4 .4ohm coils but wondering if the Q2 .6ohm coils will fit this tank? Will ALL of the V8 baby prince coils fit the baby prince tank or just certain ones?

Usually cotton bacon has a pretty clean taste. Some people say they can taste the difference in the wires between kanthal and SS or nichrome. Nichrome definitely tastes cleaner than kanthal to me but. Some people have an allergy to nickel though. Most time the wattages on coil are just a recommendation. You can vape lower than what the coil states. I have a few tanks that say 70-90 watts and I still hover above 50. Just depends on your vape style.

Thanks for that... Still lost about the wires....twisted, flat, stapled, kanthal, clapton, various gauges, etc, etc
The only thing I understand about any of this is what the gauge of wire is but dont know which gauge I should use.

If someone would suggest a cpl specific wires I will order some and try them out but there is such a wide range, I have no idea what to even try.

I'm thinking the Ni80 simply based on VAPEROXX 's sales thread. But what are the rest of the specifics...so I can look it up and order it?

Is there a thread that explains all of this?

Kanthal is usually the most used. Stainless steel and nichrome end up being a lower ohm in the end because of the different composition of the wire. I suggest some 26 or 28 guage to start with. If you haven't messed with coil building too much I'd steer clear of clapton and fused and such. Premade coils are fine. But I mean as far as making your own. Sometimes the extra work can discourage people. But single wire builds to start. Keep it simple. We all started where you are now. Get a good coil and ohms calculator and keep you in the correct range..

The wire I used for my first ever build is what came with the coil master building kit..
Kanthal A1 24g but it tastes REALLY bad, cant even begin to explain the flavor. Perhaps it's the juice I mixed but it tastes MUCH worse than it does through my wotofo Pro Flow Sub tank So I just figured it was either the wire or the cotton... Does it take time to "burn off" the newness/coating or whatever?

here is a pic of my first build... .85ohm according to the Coil Master 521 mini Works great, just tastes nasty, lol

I think perhaps the right side (in the pic) is a bit light on cotton and perhaps I cut it all too short as it is stretched tight in the coils which made it pull down from the top of the coil

Yeah if you have any spots of wire inside the coil that doesn't have wet cotton you may get a hotspot on the coil. Which in turn gives a burned taste. After building your coil make sure to preheat it to get the hot spots out and make sure it's heating from the center outwardly. Cotton to tight in the coil can cause dry hits which will taste nasty as well.i usually fit a piece of cotton in the coil. Make sure it's snug but not tight enough to move the coil while pulling cotton through.

I don't want to step on Wtmke1 as he has far more experience than I do, but a couple observations from your pic that he can affirm or correct.

You touched on a couple yourself.

First is that it looks like your coils are in crooked. Meaning that two of the ends look like they might even be touching the post.

It could be the angle of the shot, but it also looks like the one on the right is higher than the one on the left. Like maybe you could even have the legs in wrong.

I'm not sure what you used to wrap those, but they also look quite big. Like 4mm or better.

Lastly you have much more cotton in the one on the left than on the right. Like I say, you touched on a couple yourself.

These are NOT criticisms. I don't mean it that way. I'm just trying to b helpful.

Now that I zoom in it also looks that the leg from the left may be sticking through the post and possibly touching the other coil..

And now that I zoom it in even further, it's hard to tell from the angle, but it looks like the right coil might be out far enough to be touching the cap.

Thanks for all of that, I adjusted them a bit, pushed them in further, cut off the ends (I missed the one that was sticking through), new cotton.... yes I used a 4mm post to wrap them because I was going for high ohms. Is better now but still a bit of a bad taste. Maybe one is still touching the cap...would that cause a bad taste?? or???

Some of the ones I found were horrible, but I think this guy will at least give some visual cues.

How do I PM WOTOFO?

Click on their name and post on profile?
Yeah just click on their profile and let them know who you are. Mention the vaping underground"you watt" challenge. There's probably an email address too on there somewhere

How do you find out if you won one of those contests? I entered a bunch and then forgot all about them.

Just go back to the challenge thread itself. Starting around the 430 mark is where they started the random generator.

This was a vaping underground challenge though. Not one of the normal vendor contests. Usually in the other contests they will tag you if you won.

That guy dry fired the hell our of that one.

Hey @BrokenChef, how are you getting along with your 25 Griffin?

I'm not... I have been using the pro flow tank that came with the FLUX. Ever since I switched to DIY juice, the coils last month(s) instead of week(s). I'm convinced suppliers put something in their juice that kills coils. I bought like 6 packs of coils back around Xmas for half price, thinking 1 a week but am still using the second coil that came with the FLUX mod I won. I am pleased with what I have and finally found a cpl flavors I like.

Im disabled but working PT and in school FT, plus care for elderly parents so it's all I can do to find time to mix juice once a month.

I did manage to get the Griffin setup and working but I don't have any issues with the pre fab coils. With all the coils, wire, cotton, etc I ended up with, I should be good on coils/tanks for a 2-3 years. I also have an RDA I got from a wotofo contest but haven't even opened it yet. Perhaps I'll play with this stuff again in May or December when I'm out of school for a month.

I am too. I read about coil complaints all the time on the internet. People like to blame the companies who made the coil when they should be looking at what liquid they're vaping. My coils last an absurb amount of time. I got other devices so they share the load extending them that much farther.

Im glad you found some flavors you can vape on. If I remember correctly you like mango but a lot of flavors taste bad to you or like alcohol?

Yep, that's me. Most taste like cleaning chemicals. I started trying highly rated 4-6 flavor combos. There are a cpl versions of Grack juice (w and w/o raspberry) and I forget the name of the other but it's a tropical blend.. Papaya, mango, etc, etc. I don't like menthol so I leave out koolada and sub cotton candy or candy roll for the fake sweetener. Still fine tuning my recipes and will eventually post them once I get them where I want them. I alternate 30ml grack, 30ml tropical. Have put at least 180ml through the same coil which never happened with store bought juice. I was lucky to get 2 weeks out of a coil. The coil I'm using now has gone 2 months. I did have one that was popping so I replaced it but generally I found it to be a juice issue, not the coils. As a guess, they may use real sugar (simple syrup) which would taste good but caramelize and clog coils. Great way to force the sale of more coils!

BTW I like the wotofo Flux... Its a bit heavy/bulky as a pocket mod but I get by. Change batteries every 2 days and fill tank (5ml) once a day so it's pretty low maintenance.
