I think I've done it

I first tried to vape 2 years ago but couldn't get on with the vape I had and in the end the seal on the tank locked solid

I also thought the tank made it feel like I wasn't holding a cigarette if that's the best way to put it . I had a bit more success with the LoveVape pen vape but couldn't find a liquid I liked and one of the things I don't like about vapes is because I am clumsy and have really poor hand-eye co-ordination trying to drip the solution into a small chamber was messy.

For some reason when I got paid last week I picked up a Blu vape I know it's never going to win awards but I liked the solid feel and the way it fitted my hand and as it loads from a cartridge it's a tad more expensive (At some point I plan to switch back to the LoveVape if I can) but easier for me then again 3 cherry cartridges is £4.50 and thus far one has lasted me nearly a week, hey even if a 3 pack lasted me a week it's still a massive saving on £8.50 or more a day on cigarettes and in the last week or so (9 days since payday) I have only brought two packs of cigarettes and still have more than half the second pack left (I brought them because I left my vape at home)

I actually prefer this vape to a cigarette. In the past a lot of times to be honest I've vaped because I am just trying to save money not because I wanted to but this time I have found something that works for me in the last three days I have only had six cigarettes

That is fantastic to hear - making the switch is not easy and can be discouraging if you don't like your first set up

:stars:super glad you gave it another shot!

I was able to quit using the eCigs Brand Cig-A-Likes because they looked like my Marlboros. Then I moved to the Logic Pens styles and when they doubled in price I bought an iStick TC40W and a Nautilus Mini which has served me well for over 4 years. Although I am using a 3 cell MOD in TC I still carry the iStick as a back up and vape. Whatever works for you @LesleySM is the answer in your case~! Good luck

Heh, Blu was one of the ones I tried at first, and totally hated; had to move to a totally "real vape" to get a flavor I could deal with, which I gradually came to enjoy more than smoking.

But, whatever works, that's the right way to do it. The only wrong way is to just stop trying. :)

Welcome!

That was one of the reasons my wife got me off cigarettes. Even the roll your own here had gotten rather costly. Sure I saved a little going that route. I pressed my wife for further reasoning to quit cigarettes. "I might want to keep you around longer," she told me. :)

In the past six months I have had only one cigarette. That one I had when facing news that my grandmother's death was imminent. I need to pray/meditate in my own way and vapor doesn't carry prayer the same as tobacco smoke, or least I told myself.

Glad you're breaking away from cigarettes. The less folks using those coffin nails the better.

That (money) was the MAJOR reason I was in a hurry to make the transition from dual use to vape-only. And it really doesn't matter one iota WHY someone vapes instead of smoking, just that they DO. Worrying about *why* you want to vape is as stupid as the fucking ANTZ telling us we're not quitting "right," since there's so little suffering involved. Who is it, Nike? "Just do it!"

I really don't get that at all -- I've seen others around here bearing stories of succumbing to a smoke because of some external circumstance -- fire, flood, death of a loved one, etc. Just don't get it; smoking isn't going to do anything except give you a whole 'nother problem. When my mom died, the thought of a smoke didn't even cross my mind -- unlike the thought of getting shit-faced drunk, yeah I wanted to do that really bad... so I went to a meeting and listened to the angel on my right shoulder, instead of the demon on my left; I put his ass back in the cage he crawled out of and disappeared the key. :D

But maybe it's just because I already had my relapse, after my appendectomy, and I saw up-close and personal how that "week or so" I had figured on, turned into a month, trying to put the smoking demon back in HIS cage, and it was a LOT harder than it was the first time. That's gotta be the #1 most important piece of advice I can offer to any ex-smoker -- it's much, MUCH easier to stay smoke-free -- no matter how bad the cravings are -- than to try and quit all over again. WTA can vanish cravings, but it won't give you the motivation to quit, you have to find that in yourself.

It's me again, I wanted to change the email address for notifications but I mis-spelt the email address so the confirmation email got lost in the ether

Still going okay starting to find there are situations where vaping wins over smoking every time

Windy? No scrambling round to light a cigarette
Raining? Damp cigarettes taste awful
Raining and in my local pub? Smokers going out for a fag but landlord allows inside vaping (one of the staff and several regulars vape themselves) so I stay warm and dry inside
Waiting on a bus and it comes along? Waste cigarette you just lit or vape and just switch it off when the bus comes
Safety? I am very sensitive about this, my partners sister fell asleep with a lit cigarette and died as a result. Fall asleep with a vape and I just drop it and as I take my finger off the switch it goes off

Also for me it's great. If I am busy I don't smoke I can go 6 hours without even thinking of it but when I am bored I light up and sometimes if something then distracts me the next time I look around the cigarette has burned down and I only had two puffs with a vape if something grabs my attention I just put it down

So much to love about vapes - cigarettes tend to "force" people to smoke more (don't want to waste the rest of my cigarette, right?) Get just the amount you want with a vape :D

Congratulations, stick with it and it'll turn into a lovely piece of cake, not smoking

Can someone tell me why this is in the What Not to Do section?

I never worried about wasting the rest of the smoke; I just butted it and saved it for later -- that was exactly why I smoked 120s, so I could smoke each one twice, and not go broke!

I never noticed a bit of difference in the taste until I was down to like 2-3 smokes a day, and my sense of taste and smell were already starting to improve -- then, that 2nd half tasted like satan's asshole. :giggle:

I was a terrible "cigarette parker" -- just before I started smoking outdoors-only, I was getting thru 3.5 pks a day -- but probably nearly half that amount was just burning up in the ashtray, because when I first started going outside to smoke, I dropped immediately to 2 pks a day. As I got more used to only smoking outdoors, it dropped a bit more, till finally I was smoking only a pk a day or a bit less, at the time I started vaping and finally managed to stop smoking.

Well, kind of like, ...

unlike the thought of getting shit-faced drunk, yeah I wanted to do that really bad... so I went to a meeting and listened to the angel on my right shoulder, instead of the demon on my left;

And I could not battle the urge with such aplomb unfortunately. An addiction is an addiction no matter its color, they all play upon the human condition and tempt us. Sometimes we can use our indomitable wills and stay the course. Other times we have our weaknesses, all of us.

I read some interesting history about Khubla Khan once. He had his soldiers give up women, vices such as gambling, he even would liked to had them not drink. But Khan realized he would rather trust a man that would drink two or three times an month than trust the man that never drank. The man that owned up to drinking a few times was at least being honest.

No, I'm not excusing surrender to addictions or condoning anyone having an addiction. I am though being understanding, empathetic, honest. None of us are perfected beings and even if we are its better to indulge in some minor vice and own it than be so perfect in an imperfect world. Last I understood of most of the major religions, there's usually only one judge and it'll never be a human being. Which in itself leaves a lot of questions about judging all together.

Aw, will mind my fingers lest they amble on the edge of the abyss here. I should probably get some coffee & go about writing my good sentences. I write good sentences. That's the sentence I am practicing this week. :) Need to do something even if it might be wrong. I'm doing, ...

You're right, sometimes addictions get the best of us, sometimes we get the best of them. I just can't understand the idea of having a smoke, in some crisis, since smoking doesn't really "do" anything for you, the way that alcohol does (obliterates the senses sometimes!); however, I did feel that irrational urge after my appendectomy, and though I don't really think it was because of "addiction", since I really didn't WANT to smoke, I simply felt compelled by issues in my own body over which, at that point, I had little or no control -- the inflammation and uproar caused by a septic part of my colon and then having that part surgically removed -- and I suffer pretty much daily with IBS. It *might* be because of my long-term addiction that my brain knew that the substances necessary to put my colon on the right track could be gotten from cigarette smoke -- and it did help, I started getting over the diarrhea, and then after I finally put the damn cancer sticks down again, WTA helped both the continued cravings (got rid of them!), and the continuing recovery.

Or maybe I was just so stressed about the entire affair that my addicted brain pitched a fit for a "comfort" that it knew well. Guess I'll never know... but you're right indeed, addictions are sometimes quite mystifying.

Oh yeah, blame stress. *chuckles*

In all seriousness though stress is never good for any of us. I am finding this out for myself. At the same time, I think we can also see the detriment in routine. Human beings are quite the peculiar species with our knowing of and apparent use & misuse of adversarial extremes. Life keeps us puzzled. :)

People misunderstand stress just as badly as they misunderstand depression. Depression is not a mood, it's an illness. And stress is maybe the bottom line of most of the mental illnesses and quite a lot of the physical ailments that plague mankind.

Stress is exactly why it's hard to stop smoking -- smoking is a stress reliever. Quitting smoking causes stress to the thousandth if not millionth power... I haven't had a cigarette in over 4 yrs, but the phrase "quitting smoking" STILL gives me stress! :giggle:
