I wanna shine it like his...now that it fell

If you want to DIY you can get polishing pads and a polishing compound, a few hours and some elbow grease will have it nice and glassy. I start with 400 grit paper and then use 600 grit before going to the pads and finishing with Mother’s Mag...I’m sure there are other polishes you can use but I like a multi purpose polish lol.

You can do it, it just takes time.
Yours will be more of a challenge due to the nicks in it from the fall. Those will need to be sanded out and you may not be able to completely get rid of them.

Sand everything down with a heavier grit like 400 (you may even need coarser for the dings.

I use 4 different grits off sandpaper, starting with the 400 or stronger then go down. The final grit I use is about 600.
After it is all sanded smooth I use a Dremel and some polishing clay to get the shine.

It just takes lots of time and patience.

A custom polishing shop, or a shop that builds with SS or aluminum, or a chrome shop, is what I would check, to see how much. I wouldn't call them I would just show up and ask - since it seems would only take them a couple/few mins on their buffing/polishing wheels.

is that aluminum ? (probably). I have polished a pretty lot of aluminum. If that was mine, I could about make it blind you. but polished aluminum is not as shinny as chrome(good chrome). it is a LOT of work, though that mod wouldn't be hard.

Of course, if you can't think of anything to DO with it - I'm accepting donations ;-)

I've been enjoying this silly DS-style far more than I did the gbox.

I'd have been more mad at her response I think. How insensitive. Joking but man that is harsh.

use it as a portable mod = much less likely to damage your newer one.

again, what is that ? aluminum ? if its some kind of pot metal(I doubt it is), I don't think it can be polished.

When I polishing the battery cover on my RX200S because of all the paint chips from drops I wire wheeled the paint off and used a polishing wheel and Jewelers Rouse

Although you can use a drill a high speed a die grinder is the better tool to use.

Edit: Yes you can polish Pot Metals and Alloys...............

OP for gods sake don’t take sandpaper to your mod. Certainly not 400 grit! You’ll ruin the finish. The dings will likely show up through a wrap at this point.

You can get a nice brushed finish with a wire wheel if used gently. Put too much force and you’ll get grooves in the finish. @SteveS45 made a good suggestion about polishing wheel and compound.

If you’ve never done this sort of thing before, it’s probably a better idea to have it done by a chrome shop. I doubt they’ll charge much for a small piece like a mod.

I’m pretty sure you’d grind off the etched logo in the process, though. And it’ll be a fingerprint magnet.
