Do Smok Prince coils still suck/QC problems?

Hello World,

In the upcoming month I plan on buying a second vape kit, and I want it to be more on the "Look at those gigantic clouds!!!" side of things.

So I started my search and in terms of price, coil availability, look&feel, features, etc. the Smok X-Priv 225W kit(the red&black one) which comes with the TFV 12 Prince tank seems to be my best bet so far.

However after a little digging I sadly found quite a few posts on google and vids on youtube(dated 2017-2018) with people complaining about the prince coils and Smok's QC.(some anti-Smok threads here too I see...)

So my question is have things gotten better since then?(primarily asking about the T12 coils) Did they up their QC and can I purchase this product without many worries? Do you guys still have to keep a needle handy and use it to poke holes in the new coils?

While I don't plan on this mod becoming my daily driver, but rather something that I use only a couple of days per month(so a bad coil once in a while won't be the biggest deal) I don't wanna get something that has frequent problems, where the mod's gonna die after a couple of months, or the coils come already broken, or they burn out fast, or I have to poke holes, etc. Specially when I see the price some of those coils have. Like the T12 that I'm interested in costing around 8$ per coil!! so... yeah...

If on the other hand you guys really don't think it's worth it(which would suck since that kit seems perfect for me, if only it would work...) then I suppose suggestions of other products I could look at and do research on would be welcome too. Just remember "giant clouds" and I'd rather it be a kit.
And no squankers/mechs or rdas(or whatever they are called) please, I'm not ready for stuff like that, just want nice sub-ohm tanks, regulated mods and premade coils.

Thank you.

P.S. Sorry for the long post.

I personally have no issues with Prince coils. I do however buy the mesh ones now. I really like the tank and use it when I am out and about. IMHO best Smok product to date. No experience with mods though. Enjoy, I do.

Mesh is nice, but for this tank and the fact that I too plan to only use it when I'm "out and about" I'm really only interested in the T12 coil for them clouds. You know, the big one with 6(I think?) wires in it!:D

Lots of Smok haters here. Most don't even use the products but "know" about horrible QC, bum coils, garbage, blah blah..

The T10 coils are solid. They last a pretty long time and work good. I haven't had a bum Prince coil yet. Some of the earlier M4 ones leaked on me but still worked good.

Never tried a smok coil. But if you want great flavor and huge plumes I'd go for the Freemax mesh pro or Falcon mesh tank. I've got 2 mesh pros and another on the way. Superior in my opinion to another subohm tank out.

Glad to heat that Frank, I'll add you to the + collum. ;)

Thanks for the suggestion MrMeowgi, sadly those 2 tanks don't seem to be available in my country. :(

Dude I can cloud a room with a Prince mesh coil. Like at 80 watts I can make you disappear. So to each is own. How much cloud do you need. If that is not enough, maybe you should be looking in a different direction.

Well, I don't know about the prince mesh, but when it comes to the mesh coils in my new Vaporesso Luxe sure 80w is enough for a room, heck I don't even keep it at that inside playing more in the 65-70 range. But for the new one I plan to use outside I do need more, more power(coils that can go over 100w) and way more vapor.
That's one of the reasons why I figured the prince tank with the "v12-t12 0.12 Duodenary coil" would be perfect. :D

Or am I missunderstanding something?

I used to run the mesh coils in my Prince tanks with no issues what so ever. I recently switched to the RBA base on my Prince tanks, and if wicked properly, delivers excellent flavor and vapor production. Might want to give it a try.

I'm not the rba type @ChrisL thanks. That raises two questions then:

1. What produces more vapor a mesh coil or a T10 coil?
2. If the answer to the first question is mesh, then which mesh coil produces the most vapor? I see there are several different types strip, dual mesh, triple mesh, max mesh, etc....

T10/Q4/M4/X6 is Gen 1 Prince coil
Strip/Mesh is the Gen 2 Prince coil
Max Mesh/Dual Mesh/Triple Mesh is Gen 3 Prince coil

the Gen 3 out perform GEN1/2 significantly in terms of longevity.

Thanks for the info @Darxtorm but sadly it doesn't seem to matter. :( I eventually bought the prince tank, but with the naboo mod, not the original x-priv kit like I was planning. I tried both the t10 coil and the max mesh even at 130w and my coulds still suck.... :(

Same story, every device I bought since I started vaping did that to me, my hits don't compare to what I see others do with the same damn sh**. And I'm already rocking 70vg/30pg juice(for the most part) scared to go any higher cause the coils might burn from not absorbing fast enough.

Only once did I manage to get a decent could on a hit from the mesh coil in the Vaporesso Luxe at 80w I think, everything else... fail...
So I guess this is just another part of my life that suck and I have to get used to....

Yeah, those are next on my list. Sadly it's gonna be a while until I get to try one cause I can't seem to find them in shops in my country, so that means I'm gonna have to order them from aliexpress or ebay or whatever.
Hopefully at least those will produce some decent clouds in my hands, though I doubt anything will at this point...
