(Resolved) Machine Oil. Whatever?

Is there any research or labwork on the health effects of vaping machine oil residue, and which manufacturers produce the cleanest wires and pre-built coils?

I'm considering using alien claptons and other types of coils with increased wire surface but with their complicated shapes, with insides you can't reach, it is actually impossible to remove machine oils from the inside of such wire.

This seems to mean that you can't really buy clean twisted wire, or coils, and have to make them yourself.

Am I missing something and cleaning alien clapton wire and pre-built (RDA) coils is no big deal?

RESOLVED: @JuicyLucy suggested buying from advancedvapesupply, who clean their wire twice after manufacture.

That is why it is recommended to dry burn and wash coils. Do not overheat SS or Ni~!

Ya could just get an ultrasonic cleaner too. I don't have one, but many swear by them. :)

Hmff... That's a pretty penny.

From the response so far, I'm guessing the most common attitude in the community is "whatever" -- whether to dry-burning or to machine oil residue.

Buy coils from one of the handmade sellers here on VU or buy from Advanced Vape Supply, their coils and wire is cleaner than clean

I aint too worried about it. But to play it safe couldn't you put the coil or exotic wire in a pot of boiling water? After that you could rinse them really good. I dunno...just thinking out loud here. I use kA1 and N80 mostly these days. I dry burn and vape away.

Unfortunately, boiling kills most germs and might dissolve grease but will leave traces of minerals of metals, the same way you get limescale at the bottom of a water boiler or kettle.

Dry burn and rinse like I said before but the OP wants to quote the farce about temperatures. I have feeling this is that Mike Dickhead or one of his Butt Buddies.

Want to be 100% safe with vaping then DON'T. While your at it don't breathe the air, don't eat fast foods and never take any medication. Those side affects can cause worse than what they treat....

It ain't gonna happen fast enough to worry about vaping if you did go the boiling route, which I find a little extreme

Put it this way: been dry burning close to six years, and my health is better than ever and I chain vape and get at least 3 months out of a coil by dry burning and rewicking weekly

Lucy, thanks for your perspective. Mine is that I am not sure what the effects are of machine oil and how to easily mitigate it. Dry-burning doesn't appeal to me as a solution due to the warning on the subject by Dr. Farsalino, who's been a steadfast friend to the community. The consequences of dry-burning may eventually turn out to be a non-issue, and good if it is. As to boiling, my point is that that is useful for killing germs but probably not for cleaning surfaces.
In the meanwhile, it seems a good idea to avoid hard to clean twisted wire (coils) with machine oil. Same as diacetyl, acetyl propionyl and acetoin. There's no benefit not to. To my mind, one of the big things about vaping, on the personal and industrial level, is that it's actually possible to remove substances that are clearly suspect. That's basically the whole argument for vaping over smoking right? Do the vice, but better?

Meanwhile I'll look into the handmade coils here.

Buy wire without it and you won't have to deal with it at all

All Farsalinos said, when asked, is that it should be avoided, based on a chemists advise

Here is what the conclusions of the chemist: According to the chemist, a dry burn may amplify the normal corrosion process at the surface of a coil and prematurely deteriorate the quality of the heating element. Toxic (for Mn) or carcinogenic effects (for the Cr(VI), a more oxidized form compared to Cr(III)) are improbable since the dose is minimal.

Do the vice, but better?

Harm reduction is term

The most practical (cheapest, safest) solution to your problem is to buy the cleanest wire possible from a reputable source, roll your own coils and instead of dry burning, throw away the old coil and install a new one instead of dry burning

Agreed, but twisting stapled or even basic clapton coils from scratch -- oof. At this point, the best quick solution seems to find either a individual fabricator or a small quality focused company, who sell their coils clean as a basic standard.

AVS sells SS rolls of various clapton wires

The guys at AVS turned out to be a bunch of champs. Seemly excellent stuff, very approachable, good prices -- and they clean all their wire twice after manufacture. Good tip, Lucy.

They are not the cheapest but in my opinion the best if you do not want to mess around and just want to get good, clean wire, dammit :giggle:

It is extremely cheap when realize how long their coils last... they have great videos on YT and even go over proper burn in and cleaning their coils. Seem the only time I change AVS coils is when I want to try a different build.
