i've found that when i do this the need to replace cotton (due to it burning out in the middle) effectively vanishes.

i only replace cotton regularly when i want to switch flavors in a certain tank/rda or when i've been using lowish quality liquids that turn everything black over time (mostly past that time of my vaping life now though).

i find the easiest way to space out the wraps is to place the coil around a screwdriver (or coil rod, whatever you've got on hand that your coils fit nicely onto) and pull each wrap away from the one next to it with your nails or a set of tweezers. starting at the two end wraps, working into the middle wraps.

it seems to help with wicking for those first few drops of liquid before your test fires and most of all cotton (all i have experience with) longevity.

here are a few pictures of some braided geekvape coils i bought a local shop that i stretched out:

honorable mention: KILO's Moo Series is a nice liquid (although i am not a huge fan of the coffee one after all) if you are looking for something creamy!

also, i really like to stuff as much cotton as i can into my coils so this is probably a big portion of the reason i like to space out the wraps

I space all my round wire builds just a little bit. Maybe 1/2 wire diameter.
Yep vapes better and cotton lasts longer.

I used spaced wraps, too, but I'm only using round wire. Never did like micro coils, have never used a fancy coil, though I did win some in a contest, but I prefer a cooler vape.

Round wire, spaced, has been working out well for me. I wick with rayon.

So spaced coils are better?

Havent actually build a coil yet.. reading and learning as i do want to start.

When you say round wire.. does that mean just regular wire?

Yep just regular wire.
I do however wrap parallel round wire coils.
Wrap 2 wires at the same time into one coil shape.
I really like those best.

Lots of people confuse parallel and dual coils.
The parallel coils are great in a single coil atty.
How are they for a dual coil setup?

I just have baby beast and baby prince rba's right now since im just getting into building.
Had them for about 2 weeks now.. but still using the pre built coils.
They are spaced and wondered why when i seen all videos and pics are tight coils.

would you mind posting a picture of a build with rayon in it? and some of the rayon up close? i could look it up online but i am curious about the stuff you use personally.

Should be fine just watch your resistance because you will actually be having 4 coils in there in parallel electrically speaking.

is the resistance higher or lower for parallel coils? how is the vape different from a regular round wire build in your experience? also, what is the difference between a dual coil and parallel? is it simply two separate coils (as in the pictures i posted above)?

I'll be re-wicking later today, so I'll get pics at that time. The rayon I buy came from Sally's Beauty Supply. They have stores everywhere and also sell online. Graham's Cellucotton Rayon. It can also be purchased at places like ebay.

The resistance across 2 coils of the same resistance in parallel is 1/2 of the resistance of each coil.
As far as the atty/mod/battery is concerned.
dual coils in an atty are in parallel.

What guage wire would u used for parallel coils?

Depends on the resistance that you want and the power you want to run.
I use 26 ga SS316, 3mm id, 10 wraps of 2 strands and get around .34.

You may also find it easier to space coils if:
  • mount coil;
  • insert rod and level/tug/arrange;
  • Use an Xacto knife to pry coils - on the rod - away from each other a little
  • remove rod
  • wick spaced coil

I just leave the end of mine in the coilmaster and pull it out along the rod and then press it back.
Works well for round wire builds.

sonotori. (heh japanese romanization for "precisely" or "correct" i like to think of myself as a baby weeaboo also)

placing a rod or screwdriver within the coil before spacing out the wraps makes a huge difference in the resulting coil shape. i would be scared to do it with a knife of any sort as (ime) one uses quite a bit of force to space hefty coils and if you slip up... BLOOD! lots of it...

Works well for round wire builds.

it certainly helps to even out the spaces between the wraps if you squish it back a little, as if you were trying to revert it to its previous "unspaced" state.
at least for the coils i buy (and someday, will create. its always more satisfying for me to use things that i have put effort into rather than just money that i have earned... which is "effort" in way but... maybe you understand dear reader?;P )
