Coil gunk and burnt cotton

My girlfriend is constantly getting massive build up on coils and burning her cotton. I can go a couple months on my wicks but she is lucky to get a week out of them. I've tried different decks and coils but it is still happening. I've told her to squonk more often but it doesn't seem to help. It even happens in subohm tanks. She is vaping 3mg Aqua Rainbow Drops around 50 watts at .24 ohms. Any advice would be great .

Yeah, I don't know how some of you guys can go several months on one wick. I'm lucky if I can get two weeks - which is mainly on clearer liquids (but not always), but the sweetness factor plays a big part. I use alot of fruit and tart based juices. Which have a sweet base to them. I don't squonk tho, so I'm depending on my cotton to suck that juice up out of the well - but even then - not alot I can do about my coils not getting gunked up.

Look at other juices. Too much sweetener causes buildup. Buildup can be slowed by running in a TC mode, but it cannot be stopped. May I ask, what flavors she prefers? What wires are you using as well? And last, look at temperatures.

I use Naked 100, Decoded (from Premium Labs), and that's pretty much it. Neither line has had a heavy impact on my coils. My girlfriend on the other hand uses the same liquids and after about 10-15 refills on her Taifun GT4, she has to disassemble and clean or rebuild. But 10-15 tanks before a clean and rebuild is heavy vaping. I suggested her to get some salts and slow down a bit, as that would curb the craving for tooting all the time.

I'm like her. Clean/wick in a week or less. I think you, the month or longer, are the exception and she's the normal one :giggle:

I don't see any complaints on flavor, taste, devices, etc. Nothing looks broke. If it's not broke don't fix it. Vape on and don't smoke !

Exactly - if it ain't broke don't fix it. There are some exceptions to the rule though, I am like the OP, my coils are usually pretty clean, I still check the wicks for darkening though, but usually no buildup. Unless I'm vaping my bakery flavors or coffee flavors, that's when and only when, I notice buildup. But when I'm using my Naked line or my Decoded lines, nothing.

Once a week rewicking is by far more "normal" than once a month or more

I'm a tootle puffer and DIY exclusively without any added sweetener to my juices and still can't go more than 10 days on a setup, so I just routinely rewick once a week, whether it looks like it needs it or not

One word ... Rayon. It keeps truckin' as long as you don't burn the shit.

My Taifun is rocking a 24/28 - 6 wrap - 3.5mm ID - and some tasty rayon. Has been about 8 tanks of Cuban Blend Tobacco flavor pumped through it. Build was installed 01APR2019 and still going strong, it's just now getting dark though, so 01MAY2019, it'll likely get changed.

I'm the lazy vaper now. Especially on that tank. It can be a clusterfuck to wick it and wick it right. I'm still working it out though. If the wicks tails aren't trimmed at the precise length, get ready to smash your head against a solid object. If they're trimmed too long, it refuses to wick properly and you get dry hit #1, get ready to rewick it completely.

I love my rayon wicks, the issue is that once it's been burnt, it tastes like a cooked dog turd.

Something you/she could do. Another atty or 2. Maybe another like her fav and a 3rd she wants. Clean/wick less often and more when want too instead of when have too.

Several words: I detest the taste of rayon, it is not an option. Tastes like what I imagine cooked dog turd would taste during break in

To each their own. I just swapped to rayon after the old days of organic cotton balls. We all remember those right? Could buy a bag of them at CVS / Walgreens, get them home, boil the shit out of them, let them dry, unroll them, try to work them in your coils, and lord forbid you forgot to wash your hands, the oils from you fingers would get all up on your wick and fuck up your toot. I tried the PIMA / SUPIMA cottons, didn't really care for them. Tried the "Japanese Cotton" pads, didn't care for them either. Only cotton I use when I'm away from my 5lb box of cellucotton is cotton bacon.

When cellucotton (rayon) became a thing, that changed the way I vaped. Even my old B&M swore to me: "Rayon is some nasty shit, we'll never try it, or even carry it!" - 6 months later, they started carrying it. A few guys out there even switched to it after experimenting with it and still use it to this day.

What do I know, though? I still long for my SS Mesh, Ceramic, and Braided cable wicks.

Return of the Genny TOOTS!

Amen sister, I absolutely loath Rayon! It's the nastiest shirt that I have ever tried and yes I wicked it right for those Rayon fans. I'd rather wick with dryer lint than that nasty shit ;)

Oh and yes I used Sally's

Rayon isn't for everyone. Just like cotton isn't for everyone.

Certain wicks just aren't a thing for everybody. Me, I prefer rayon over cotton, just as I prefer SS wire over Kanthal or Nichrome. Or SS wire over Titanium or Nickel.

But most of all, I prefer SS mesh / cable over rayon and cotton...

And those porous ceramic wicks, get that shit out of my face! LOL!
