Lot's incoming ...

I was holding off on posting the colors on the parallel build until I finished pulsing. Well it's still sitting here 1/2 done so I'm just going to throw them out. Maybe one day I'll get to the purples and blues lol

PicsArt_06-21-08.56.09.jpg PicsArt_06-22-03.04.09.jpg PicsArt_06-24-12.35.45.jpg PicsArt_06-26-11.39.22.jpg

And today I played a bit more with the 'stitched clapton' idea. It's not quite where I want it. Feeling like I need a smaller stitch in the clapton (or a bigger decore) to get the effect I'm looking for.
12x .4 KA1/26g SS316L cores
42g Ni80 decored from 32g and stitched (re-cored) with 38g Ni80 then all of that decored from 26g and stitched with more 38g Ni80
Just wireporn at the moment. There's enough for a coil but I haven't decided what I want to do with it yet.

my builds usually come out looking like two monkeys humping a football
Make it happen!!! Cause I would pay to see that :giggle::giggle::giggle:

Seriously though. I appreciate it man. And the ability to build is a learned and practiced skill. Anyone can do it with some time and effort. Especially if your only going for function.if you can make a fused clapton then you have a good vape. And if you can get a good one every 4-5 tries then keep at it. If you do it with enough regularity then eventually you will get it 9 out of 10 times.

Yeah I have no idea how you did that, I mean I actually do... but I don't lol. Absolutely beautiful man. Like the first one is literally one of my favorite artistic builds that I have ever seen. Like I can do a basic enigma, but diggity damn. Shred my friend, I only wish I had stagger skills half as good as yours!

I believe the word your searching for, is Space...Ranger...
Lol. Brother I wish I had mohawk alien skills as good as yours. You literally make the sickest, tightest, craziest mohawk aliens ever, ever, ever, among just about every other alien variation. Everyone has their own brand of nastiness haha.:D

Thank you Shred! I agree completely with that statement though; we all have our niche talents in coil building. But I would sacrifice my talents with Mohawks for even mediocre stagger abilities lmaooooo!

Thank's bud! The specs on the color shots are on the first round of pre-fire shots I posted like a week or two ago. And if you can do an enigma then you can do an interlock. It really is not difficult. As long as you get a clean para-clap decore than it's no harder than single strand. Just make sure you get the right stretch. Interlocks put more tension on the cores. A good stretch will relieve some of that tension.
God damn bro. AMAZING
Thank you much :D
Ive got to start making coils and shooting them again, lately its just guns and product shots Ive been doing...
Now, I'm not a gun enthusiast ... I don't even own one lol. But, your firearm photography is almost as good as coilart for me!
Having said that ... yes ... yes you do need to build more imho :p

Definitely think I could do it interlocked cause I’ve done a few interlocking Fraliens, think I posted one a while ago. I never got too into Enigmas I guess because I always heard they were a terrible vape, like you got a bump on either side so the cotton is not gonna lay completely flat. Here’s a photo from a long, long time ago of something that’s representative of an Enigma, kinda haha. I might want to practice a little and see if I can’t do better. It’s just so many plys of ribbon that if things go south it’s like damn all that wasted wire... but it’s worth a shot. And yes every single time I make a SSFC I think of you :inlove:Lol.

Yah Enigmas are not a very good vape. But then again I don't think Mohawks are a good vape. But I really don't considered myself a functional builder anymore. I don't build in search of the vape. I tweek specs on builds I like ... but I don't make "new" builds to see if I will enjoy them. I feel like I've experimented enough to know what works for me as far as build type.

And as far as ribbon plies rolling on you ...
1st you can always make it smaller. The only limit is how small you can clapton. Standard ratio is 6 to 1 to get an enigma. I'm honestly am not 100% sure what my decore size was for that one but It was closer to 5/1 and I think even less than that. I could have done a smaller ribbon stack and still made an enigma ... it just would have had a bigger hump.

You could also do what I did with that build ... fuse your ribbon together first. That will guarantee no roll as well as add some interesting looks.

Yeah that ribbon rolled like a fat lady down the side of a mountain towards an ice cream truck.

I guess the inherent problem that comes with really learning how to do that build well is until you get your prep perfect and get your stretch and tension perfect, it tends to just want to bunch up on you. I know you can use ribbon sliders along the way but then you're stopping the fuse, moving the ribbon with your drill hand while keeping the exact same tension with your fuse hand, and then restarting the fuse, which obviously can take some practice. I feel like the higher you go in ratio, the more sensitive the groove is to changes in tension.

I suppose if I wasn't focused on making coils for people to vape and getting the most out of my wire I would just keep doing it over and over until it worked, like any other build, or kinda like when I was learning how to make aliens in the beginning. It's not even a money thing it's just minimizing the pain in the ass that restocking on your wire can be. Well in principle I guess there is an element to the money cause I only like to use KP and it's like damn I'm throwing away some expensive material, just to get what is essentially a double sided mohawk. I probably should invest in some cheap practice wire cause I'm at that kinda decent but still intermediate level where learning how to do anything beyond what I'm capable of now isn't just going to happen in one or two attempts. I dunno I guess it's all relative.

But I do have to give it another go, and I thought about what a good idea fusing the ribbon was, even before you made your post. So that's probably my best chance to ease into it without throwing 200 ft of ribbon wire in the garbage lol. It's one of those builds I'd love to have one real nice photo of to say "I did it!" and then never think about it again haha.

Ladies and gentlemen; my personal best for Alien stock length. Just shy of 17 3/4 inches with zero errors! It yielded 6 4.5 wrap, 3mm ID coils. That's 4 28 gauge core wires wrapped in 36 gauge Alien! All Nichrome 80!

OH yah dude ...
1) go get some cheap wire to "play" with. I Just ordered almost 1.4 miles of wire in different gauges and alloys for under $100usd (their pricing is in Euros). You have to live with dirty wire, questionable spooling techniques, long ship times, and not so speedy cust. svc. if you do have a problem. But you learn to work around most of it. And if you do end up with completely unusable wire I have had them replace 2 spools, at different times, free as well as hand me some freebies for the trouble. They took a few days to respond to my initial inquiry. But they did make it right. https://www.wireandstuff.co.uk/
2) Yes prep is super important. But I know good and well you've made a thousand fraple cores.....
3) there have been very few advanced baseline builds (aka something I wasn't pulling out of my ass or ridiculous high gauge) that I couldn't get a reasonable outcome within in the first 2-3 tries, and then can typically replicate fairly consistently afterwards. There are a few but not many. I would put an enigma in that baseline build category. You are an extremely experienced builder with years of wire running through your fingers ... more time than me. Knowing the wire so well means you understand what it wants ... what it needs. And having that experience means you will more than likely be able to pick up most things in the same way. You will not likely need to sit down and put in 10 builds to make it work. Try one attempt everytime you sit down to build someone else some aliens. Take the extra few mins to make a fraple core 6x wider than the decore size your already running. Then take an extra few mins and run double the decore when you do it for the build your making anyways. Then a few mins to try the nigma I bet within a couple of sessions you'll be able to push one out. At worst you tacked on 15-20 mins to your session. And If you end up running out of time you'll already be prepped for the next time you sit down.

You're right, it isn't easy. I had to Alien wrap awhile until I could no longer comfortably reach, then stop, reposition myself, then re-grip and restart the Alien wrap with zero noticeable restart gaps. Kinda like a skilled welder. Lol

You're absolutely right, and it is definitely more a question of effort than innate ability. I really appreciate what you're saying. I tend to not think of myself as a coil porn artist or a purist functional builder, I'm just a guy who loves to build. I still enjoy just making Fraliens and SSFCs as well as experimenting. It's just one of those things that gravitates certain people towards it and all of those people seem to find their niche as far as what they really enjoy doing and I appreciate it all.

I definitely think some people, such as yourself, are extremely talented. And I realize there are levels to everything and there's always a new level of holy sh*t what did that guy just pull off, and we all probably feel a little less accomplished than we actually are just by the nature of there always being some new level of holy sh*t to either aspire too or try to conquer.

But nothing you are saying is incorrect and I'm definitely going to take your advice and get that :banana:hot discount wire:banana:, that's spooled up like my neighbor's garden hose and make SOMETHIN' happen. I do really appreciate the advice and I know it comes from a place where there is great appreciation for the craft and the art, and that's something I think we all share which makes it super, super cool just to be here and get to talk about it with guys like yourself.

You were right. It takes about three tries before your hands get the general idea of what you need the wire to do. On the last wrap the frame came away from and under the cores, which caused me to have a 5 minute mental breakdown, so then I just added another photo from another angle and that calmed me down. You get the feeling that the more times you do it the easier it will become, but each time you have to para-clap over again it's like losing a half a heart worth of life force in Legend of Zelda on Nintendo.

I hope you're gonna color that claptoned Enigma variation that you did cause it'll look siiiick.

One of the reasons I like stags ... You flub a single rotation with a decore and it's f'd. You can flub 10 rotations with stags and you just back it out, straight the fuse wire a bit and keep on rolling.

I hope you're gonna color that claptoned Enigma variation that you did cause it'll look siiiick.
Gonna try. I always intend to color show builds.

Dayum son!!!! <3<3<3 I almost got all sarcastic on you about this on IG with your "N90 Alien wire is hard" comment :teehee: I know good and well you do tons of work with N90 ;) But I couldn't find a way to say it without sounding like a dick ... It was supposed to be all in good fun. So I just abstained lol

Disregarding the stags ... Do you run N90 alien wrap slower? Do you stop often to pinch. The truth is that it's not as much the wrap wire as it is core collapse. Yes the wrap wire is a bit harder to control ... but I seem to have a reasonable handle on it. I can find the angle and run it and it seems to lay well for the most part. But even, with what feels like, the perfect stretch and like almost no tension and lubing up my fingers and it all feels so good ... then the cores roll and I'm crying like my 4 year old :cry::cry: And if I stop and pinch, the wrap is so soft that I can't get it to lay right again for the first couple rotations. I'm kind of feeling like I'm out of things to try ... Any suggestions?
Coming with that sloppy ass staggered build.

I like stretching it more than SS and using much less tension. It doesnt like to be consistent when it slides through your fingers so the less pressure you have to apply the better the results IMO. Dont lube your fingers, try and keep them as dry and smooth as you can. Stretch the decore so it looks like it barely needs tension and seriously let it just run through your finger tips (no pressure)...just sliding through your finger tips will be more than enough pressure to stretch it that last little bit.

Got 'em! The flip side has a nasty spot, on one of them, where I pushed to hard with my thumb when I bent the leg. But the stick was clean!
I couldn't get it to slide between my fingers in a way that felt controlled as well as loose ... so I used another technique learned here ... pretty sure it was @mach1ne that posted a pic of him holding a rope sliding up the palm and finger. Worked great!

I like heating it with the torch just until you start seeing the wire glow, then move to another area. The further back your flame is the better for overall coverage. Just use one of those torch lighters, not an actual torch for best results. I think your coloring came out great, it just need slightly less time to get the most out of the coloring. Great shots btw!!

Thank you :D I used to do low light stuff all the time. It was always my favorite. But I got all invested in clarity and detail for a while. Now that I have a better handle on that I figured I'd throw what I've learned at the dark stuff and see what comes out. I do still love this style a lot.
And I hadn't even thought about the torch lighters ... damn could have saved $25 lmao! It has a fine point tip. I'll try that next time.

pretty sure it was @mach1ne that posted a pic of him holding a rope sliding up the palm and finger. Worked great!
great work man  i didnt realize n90 was so much different to work with. i posted that pic to help someone (maybe you?) with 40+ alien wrap. i remember reading the post after i made it and thinking it sounded mostly like some crazy rambling...random pics of rope and talk of 'feeling' everything like some weird old hippie :teehee:
