Before I had my second son I worked at Gamestop. Well, my beauty was coming out and I was so excited I put money down on it as soon as I could, made payments weekly. Well, the system came to the store before it launched the next day and I was working and couldn’t stop walking by it in the stockroom and admiring it. Wasn’t allowed to take her home until the next day when it actually launched.

Well... here she is!

OOOO, look at that receiver ! nice. the good ol days. what is it ?
Kenwood KR9600. Just had it refreshed by a friend of mine that does vintage receivers.
I'm into the old school. Have a Marantz 4300 with the SQA 4 module that was just rebuilt also.
I don't care what anyone says. The old school will rattle the beer cans on the coffee table. The new shit will not!

i got story for you.

back in the early 80's, i was a teen. i had a buddy that was 10 years older than me. he had a CONCEPT receiver, he said it was 65wrmspc. and he had these FISHER 15" 3ways. the box's where huge, compared to what it sold these days. he had em on end tables.

we would hang at his house, beers and such, HeHe. sometime we would have "concerts". and basicly, thats about what they were.
that "basic" system would POUND and LOUD ! and very clean clear sound = distortion makes me want to kill.

AC/DC live wire, was a favorite. and GAMMA 1, the whole album.

boy, the good-ol days.

oh

the reason the new shit does not "pound" is, well, most of it is crap. but even the better stuff, it is more geared towards "sub" bass.
and this does not do music, at least mine, well at all. what my music needs is "bass", not subwooferage.

The reason it doesn't "pound" is because of the lack of large capacitors. They all went to "IC" circuitry which is bull shit and in most cases can't be repaired. Case in point. a friend of mine got a new Marantz. Can't remember the model # but he paid like $3000 for it.
2 years later andf 2 of the IC's burned out in it. Took it to a Marantz repair center in Chicago and they said parts no longer available.
Isn't that some shit?
Thing is, Old school parts will always be available. They are simple.
I sold him one of my old Carver receivers to get by with and he could not be happier.
A $700.00 dollar Carver and it sounds better than the Marantz.
That was 4 years ago and it's still kicking!

Yeah i saw that. I still transferred it all in Amber Glass bottles with Polycone caps.
I left no airspace in the bottles. A friend of mine said not to worry with PG based Nic.
It wont expand enough to break the bottles or the caps.
Been in the freezer about 12 hours now at -20 and they haven't cracked yet so he must be right

thats what i mean about crap.

$3000, yeah. i'm not paying $2200 for 2% performance increase. and that shit has so many bells & whistles on it that are basiclly useless.

but really, a lot of it has to do with the descign of the speakers. people these days get all hung up on "subwoofer". when if fact most of them do not even get subsonic. and they don't do woofage well either. most peopl don't even know what quality audio sounds like.

Getting a little outdated but I don't game as much as I used to. Upgrades are getting a bit pricier these days as well, I remember when solid mid grade gpu's could be had for $130-150. Now it seems like $300+ and harder to justify. I usually play older titles anyway so not too bothered by it. The last time I bought a new game shortly after release was cod ghosts and when I completed the game in like 3-4 days I thought damn, I paid $60 for that? It's still a game I play through but I prefer more complex games like skyrim or fallout.

A little harder to see, the first image has the panel on and the lighting is a bit subdued due to tinted windows. The others, one's plain leds off, the other is panel off with red lit up. It's an rgb+w so it can be set to various colors/tones, pastels etc. I don't usually go for all the flashing effects and all, prefer it subdued if the lights are on. Otherwise it's pitch black. The led strips look terrible with the cover off but there's not enough room around the front fan for the strip to lay flat, the 200mm fan only leaves about 1/4".

Actually looks slightly different now, had a bit of a bad encounter with some lightning that took out my cpu around a year ago. In the process the motherboard got fried, the replacement is identical (a slight upgrade) with a black pch heatsink instead of gold and another couple sticks of ram which really don't show behind the cpu cooler anyway.

128GB CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM
4TB SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS
2TB CORSAIR SATA SSD

Does she bang? Yes... yes she does. Does she render quickly? Oh yes... yes she does. Is she a treat to work with? The best in a long mile. And I'm proud of her. She's my workstation / gaming rig. Not fully complete yet, because hardware out of stock / in transit when the initial pictures were done. All I did was upgrade from the initial 32GB to the 128GB, and dropped the 8 120mm top fans out for 3 140mm fans.

Phase 1: Bench Setup Unpowered

Phase 2: Bench Setup Powered

Phase 3: Air Cooling Components Stripped Off / Replaced With Hydro Cooling

Phase 4: Post Hydro Cooling - Powered
