PODMODCALYPSE is coming(?)

As everyone probably heard, there's been various releases of this "POD MOD" thing'y. Smok says their RPM40 and RPM80 is the real POD MOD, Voopoo claims it's their Vinci and Geekvape (without too much drama) releases their new Aegis Boost.

So what are these POD MODS? Its basically an MTL kit without a regular atomizer. It is a hybrid, they have an LCD, some of them even use 18650 batteries, temperature, voltage and wattage control, and other regular battery modification features.

Many people have switched. Thrown away their old models, and bought a Pod Mod. Last time we have seen such thing, was when nicotine salts and pods were developed. A lot of regular Vape builds, mods were thrown away and vaping became more like smoking.

So my point, you ask? I am here to express my opinion and ask yours. Sitting here with a couple fresh Vape Chill Pill Salt line new products and my friends RPM40 and thinking, what is vaping gonna be in 10 years? This PodModcalypse has changed the Ecigarette future in my opinion. And yet again, people will start chasing smaller devices, that only do one thing: deliver their nicotine in high doses. Since we can see how many times this market explodes through the years its scary. What are your thoughts on this? What do you think vaping will be in 3, maybe 5 years?

For me personally I will continue using rebuildables and mechs. I don't want to spend money weekly or more replacing a factory coil or the whole pod. Chip based regulated mods will die while mechs will continue to work as long as they are kept clean. And yes you can do MTL on a mech with a high Ohm coil and limited air atomizer. But that is just me. I'm prepped for the vape apocalypse. I DIY, I have lots of mechanical mods and RDAs, I build my own coils, and I probably have enough nicotine to last my life.

Another thing to consider is what manufacturer is going to spend the money to get their products FDA approved? The deeming deadline is May of this year. My guess is only ones owned or backed by Big Tobacco and they will be closed systems with just tobacco flavors. The state governments would prefer to see vaping go away. They like their tobacco settlement money too much.

Then again, maybe my crystal ball has a crack in it... I hope I'm wrong, but I'm prepared in case I'm not.

I've bought one podmod (a Vinci X) and a few AIOs (iJoy Mercury, Squid Squad, Smok Trinity Alpha), and was gifted an AIO (Ohm Vapor). All of them have RBAs available so I can at least keep them going for as long as the circuitry lasts without buying factory coils. I really like all of them but will never allow myself to become dependent on just that technology.

Otherwise, I'm prepared too with DIY supplies, rebuildables, some regulated mods and some mechanicals. If a person is interested in being able to continue to vape in the USA, I don't see any alternative but to go with those devices that are sustainable without vape-industry-specific purchasing in the future.

That is a very important point esp in the US if you want to keep on vaping.
Also pods, etc become obsolete very quickly in the vape world.
Get RTA/RBA's and RDA's that you like and get spare parts tool that you like.
I have lots of spare glass, orings, etc for my tanks and such that I like to use.

Personally, i think that if you want to "future proof" yourself the best thing you can buy are mechanical mods and rebuildable rdas.
The coil building wire and batteries are theoretically untouchable.
Learn to duy your juice and proper maintenance on mechanicals.
Mods with fewer parts and no electronics cant really be affected after point of sale.

Yep and next best would be switchfet type unregulated mods which could be fixed.
Getting replacement chipsets for mods has always been an issue with virtually all of them.

And yes chipsets for vaping are also tobacco products now and fall under the Deeming/PMTA debacle.
replacement switchfet modules may not be under deeming regs because the regs mention variable wattage...

That and mosfets have multiple uses...
Another good option are okl mods, since they chip was adopted by vaping but used for several items outside of vaping.

yep the modules used in them are generic off the shelf electronics. And are not even variable wattage per sie but variable voltage circuits.

Expect to see a resurgence in OKI based mods custom made in the latter part of this year.

One could actually replace a switchfet module with a mosfet and resistor. You would just lose any on off capability by clicking.

I dont know that a switchfet is vaping specific either. I would have to look into it more. In either case, the repair or building of a mod with either are fairly simple.

From what i recall of reading the deeming regs they seem to focus on chipsets that vary wattage.

I could design a very small switchfet with on off and battery level flashy led indicator with a smt ATTiny 85 and a SMT mosfet with a few SMT resistors.
Would take a bit of programming but not bad. The tiny85 has enough inputs and outputs and an analog input to check battery voltage.

That comes down to if you want that sort of thing. Theoretically if you can do that, you could build a buck boost and slap it in a box.

Yep but harder to fit in a box than a very small switchfet module.
Most of the little plastic mech sqounkers could be converted to mosfet or switchfet.

I'll be using the same stuff I use now.
If a dual 18650 regulated mod dies i'll grab another off of the stack.
At the failure rate of these devices with all of the QC issues in the vape industry (notice I didn't blame China) I am at about a 3 mod (dual 18650 regulated) lifetime failure rate.

I have around 50.

They'll last.

Yep same here been using the same Pico Squeeze daily for around 2 years and still working fine. Have 8 more.
And have been daily using the same Kbox mini for 4 years or so, still doing well. Have 9 more.
Plus over 20 more assorted mods including mechs.

I used to not like the idea of a mosfet, because of it being another possible failure point and potential for performance degradation. However, I've been proven wrong with the luna.

Like those above, I’m pretty set with a variety of regulated and mech mods, rdas, loads of wire, o rings, squonk tubing and cotton and enough flavors/Nic to keep me going for 20 years. I’ll have to get VG and PG at times, but I’m good to vape for the rest of my life. And I agree with all above that the only way we’re going to be able to vape, in the future, is to become entirely self reliant. Come May 2020, things will drastically change vaping, as we know it. If they even allow it at all.......:soapbox:

With a good mosfet there is often less voltage drop than with a mech.
And NO cleaning of switch, threads, etc.
and no having to press the heck out of the button.

I’m setup pretty well, enough mods to last, couple hundred drop-in coils for my favorite tank (Freemax Fireluke 2). Picked them up when they were 99¢ a 5-pack which changed my original plan of just using rebuildables. So I’ll have options with my attys, convenience with the factory coils and RDAs & rta’s to last forever. The only thing I should probably get is more nicotine. I may buy one more liter of 100ml/mg for the freezer just in case I live longer then I’m guessing. So I’m in good enough shape with the vape gear to last a lifetime, and bad enough shape to make sure I don’t outlive my supply.

Its nice to see new things get released as anything vape wise is another possibility of people switching and ditching the smokes.
But I hate the way the industry in general see a wave, all jump on it and ride it to death. Yeah that's how making money goes I know, it's just how business had rolled for generations and it has. But with our digital age its a tsunami of advertising and marketing that gets pushed in our face at every turn. Pod, pod, pod, pod, pod. I guess they see or saw a big market gap for user friendly easy to use and carry vapes and locked onto it like pitbulls. I cant see them letting go anytime soon. I get every single day from places I purchase from an add at least from one of them advertising a new pod or a deal on a pod. I could unsubscribe but I do now and then get a great sale alert from things I do like so I put up with it. Bit like shoing a fly away when I get them.

Ah but with factory coils you do not know if they are duds or not until you try them.
Like you at my age I do not have to stock for an extremely long time.
I have enough in the Vape bunker to last me till I die or am to decrepit to vape ;)

I don't throw away factory coils, I figure if it ever gets down to it I'll make it work....

True, in my early days of vaping I rebuilt coils and such that were supposed to not be rebuildable.
I even still have some of the glass wick stuff :)

Always buy the RBA head.
The RBA head for a Smok beast whatever will last longer than 100 coils.

i'm mostly into RTA's but If I get a kit or something and the tank doesn't have an optional RBA head I will just give the tank away.

Also, I keep every tank that has an RBA section.
From the kanger subtanks, crown v1's, to Smok baby beasts, etc...

Also nice to have extra RBA heads. Both for backups and to have some built and wicked ready for use.
I have 10 extra or more for my Subtank Minis.
Along with all the other spare parts for them.

I’m glad you’re using regulated, I didn’t want to get mechs really. I have a couple, but I like variable ones.
Hmm, I’ve got a way to go to get to fifty, though. (I’ve got twenty or so now. )

did anyone see that this post was started to get free advertisement ? i did.
Alright, got me there, I am sorry, it is hard to run a vape related business, since the bans by FDA actually affected the EU market also, many clients were lost and yeah. Struggling to get through. Though I don't seek free advertising. I like writing reviews and blogs and if people like it, I give them an option to support me or not.

It's funny because before the podalanche I used to get maybe a vape sale email once every 2 weeks, now its virtually every day.

I keep getting them too. They were cheaper for a day or so, when the closed systems got banned. But it seems like business as usual again.

I dunno, pods just seem uninspired. Stealthy, but nothing great.

Our vape shop works with many brands and I've been working as a salesman for 5 years now and recently my CEO came up to me and asked "If you had an opportunity to create an E-liquid, what would you create?" and thus after half a year a "Vape Chill Pill" brand was born, I personally do not discriminate the flavors, I chose from what our clients would like, I did a couple of experiments, a bit of mixing and my job pretty much is to come up with the flavors. We do ship to EU, Canada, Africa, pretty much worldwide. The company itself, our partner which manufactures them is in Malaysia.

Wow, I think someone just posted a link to your juice. Do you have caramel popcorn donut or something? And coconut biscuits? If yes, they sound awesome.

Have you tried these Pod mods yourself though? The RPM40 from SMOK or Aegis Boost from Geekvape? They differ from the regular pod systems a lot. It's pretty much a brand new world there. I have a kayfun 4 MTL with an aspire Zelos mod (recycled it from a zelos kit I had a while ago) and the difference between pods and kits was huge until now. I tried the Aegis Boost just from interest and the flavor and clouds are not exactly the same but pretty similiar to my kit. Though the price differs a lot. I paid about 110$ for my kit and aegis boost is 35$.

Yeah we do, created it myself. I LOVE caramel. Not a big fan of pie and dessert flavors, but caramel is a big exception to me.

If a pod helps someone transition off cigs, more power to them. I'm fucking annoyed with them and personally sick of everything pod, they can go away and I wouldn't shed a tear. They're nothing special, they're ego pens and old school nautilus type factory coils, aspire bvc types just in a different form factor. Nothing earth shattering. I grew tired of janky ass hit and miss overpriced factory coil heads years ago coming off ego pens. Went rebuildable and never looked back. Hell juul pods are still using silica wick like the old ego pens, same shit. The only difference there was nic salts, haven't been bothered with that either. Overpriced shit with shiny factor, that's it.

People like oh this aio uses an 18650. This one has a 510 adapter. This one's rebuildable. This one holds more juice. This one fires up to 80w! Yea, you know what that's called? An rta on top of a single 18650 mod. 2015 called, offered their istick tc60w single 18650 with adjustable wattage, tc, screen, 510 and paired it with a kayfun or nautilus. Still vapes better than current 'pod mods'. For those who think yea but the newer pods have square tanks you pop a premade coil into and fill from the top - surprise, also 2015. "Pod Mod" is a bullshit name given to reboxed old shit.

I won the aegis boost on here and it’s nothing special to me. It has small juice capacity, the pod is so dark you have to hold it in light to see while you fill and I’ve overfilled many times because of this. Also, have dry hit a few times cuz I can’t see when the juice gets too low. Definitely wouldn’t buy myself.

Since I broke my Kayfun glass, I used the metal one spare which isn't clear either. Every MTL doesn't have a big juice capacity. What I meant to say that these POD MODS are dominating the MTL market a bit. Of course, I do not compare it to big bulky DTL builds.

just once a day....
:D non stop for you too huh!? I actually clicked on one last night, haven't checked out the site for a few months, and I was greeted by pod after pod and everything for them. Wow what a transformation from my last online visit there. As long as others, like myself, can still get catered for I guess with my sub ohm tanks and mods then I can kinda put up with it.
