I just bought this not realizing it was usb only. It showed in the mail yesterday and I've used it one day. I spent all morning figuring out which charger I really want. I'll take $20 shipped via Paypal, just so this purchase isn't a total loss for me and I can buy the charger I should have bought in the first place.

Just a suggestion but why not just buy a wall wart and plug it into the wall with a 110V to USB adapter? Cheap solution. GLWS

that's how I am using it, it's just not what I wanted in a charger. I didn't do my due diligence in regards to homework before purchase.

I am just thinking once you plug it into the wall you will never know the difference. The functionality is same isn't it?

I've used a Nitecore D4 for years, but I needed something I could charge 21700s in so I landed on this UM4. The UM4 is fine, it charges, from memory, [email protected] or [email protected], which is better than my D4. One thing about this Nitecore really bugs me. It's trivial but for me it's a dealbreaker. The display doesn't sleep after a timeout. So as long as the UM4 is receiving power, the display is on. It dims, but it doesn't shut off. I know it may sound like a weird thing to consider a dealbreaker, but it just drives me nuts lol

I have the UMS4 (only difference aside from price is it can charge at faster speeds than the UM4 can), and it runs very noticeably cooler compared to most chargers that use an internal AC power supply so, because batteries age slower if there's less added heat coming from the charger itself, I consider this a (literally) cool bonus along with the fact USB saves the extra trouble of having to go search for a compatible replacement for the wallwart in the possible event that the wallwart dies. I'm in Europe so I use the European version of this one:

The display of my UMS4 behaves the same way. But the reason why it doesn't bother me is, Mooch said you need to stay near your charger where you can both see it and easily reach it, stay awake, take the batteries off of your charger not too long after the charging is finished, and put your charger on a non flammable smooth surface like a ceramic tile... so, because the display remains lit, it tends to remind me to stay close while at the same time also it allows me to easily see when the charging is finished, and also to look at the volts to get an idea of how much longer it will take till finished.

Man I am so bad about leaving my charger unattended. Also have left the batteries in the charger over night aftter charging more often than not. I really need to get on the ball and practice safe charging habbits. I am glad I looked at this thread. I will definately do better in the future. Is there a charger that will tone or beep when charging is completed?

The chance of it turning into a catastrophic event is really, really very tiny... it's just that the consequence of a charger burning out can be quite devastating if it actually does happen. As for taking the batteries off the charger when the charging is finished, IMO look for a charger that completely stops the charging automatically as opposed to one that keeps periodically bringing the batteries back up to 4.2 volts, and, don't worry too much about letting them sit on the charger for up to a few hours after they are full, there's no real urgency, but if it's all the same to you and you see that they are full, then don't delay your decision to take them off when there's no reason for delaying, just don't let them sit on there the whole day because (Mooch said) there's a one in a million like chance of something bad happening if you do.
