Howdy, all!

With the state of things right now, a lot of people may not be ok. People are losing employment, being asked to stay home(sometimes alone) and do some fairly big sacrificing. And it’s not gonna be a two week thing.....

So here’s a check-in thread to make sure people know that they’re not alone. That they have people that care about them and maybe can even help. We can be there for each other in a time of uncertainty.

Tell us how you’re doing. Let us all know if you’re ok.....or if you’re not.

We’re here. Your big, dysfunctional vaping family.

So I’ll start.....I closed my restaurant yesterday and laid off 10 people, one of them being my daughter. I am heartbroken and super anxious. I’m looking for a job in a town that has no work. My only saving grace is that my partner is well off and can help me out indefinitely....and that makes me feel guilty.

I am teetering on being not ok....but for now, I am holding it together.

:(

This is such a good idea, thank you Gypsy for coming up with this and for sharing. I think you're right this isn't gonna be a 2 weeker. Hang in there Gypsy, we'll all get through this together.
I am doin pretty good so far, my raw diet won't let me stock up as much as I would like to:rolleyes: have to go out every week for those "IF" they can still be found.

Hi, Jimi! I’m so glad you’re doing pretty good! This was @nadalama ’s idea because she’s the sweetest. You hang in there, too. We will all be ok.

This is a great thing - glad you started it

Sad to know you are in troubled waters - like most of us are in one way or another

We are okay here in on the homestead - stuff closing is spotty here yet - some things still open, like schools, but a lot of stuff is closing and shipments are not always making it here already

Our food forest is coming along but nowhere near ready to sustain us with all our needs, but we do have stockpiled emergency food for about a year - and ways to protect it if need be

I'm really sorry to hear that @wildgypsy70, but I'm also glad that you'll be OK. <3

So far, so good where I am, we do have something under 30 confirmed cases. As with most everyone, the shelves are bare in the stores, unless you get there like Black Friday early. What I do is considered an essential job, so we're working, unless corporate steps in. It would be a bad move for them to shut us down, because the stores can't handle the volume we fill and people need their prescriptions!!

Aside from a less than average grocery trip, we're staying in. We might go stir crazy, might get close to killing each other, but we're staying in, unless his mom or my dear sweet neighbor lady need anything.

Stay safe, y'all.

Pretty bad here over all in San Diego... 60+ confirmed cases already, so that means at least 20,000 infected whom yet to be symptomatic.

Which of those people, also probably drove around and visited places and other people and yeah a mess.

Work I do piece plan checks for a company I was injured at, so I’ve been a home body for a long time already.

Wife works at Kaiser Permanente Hospitals she is a double Masters in nursing and nurse education and her position is solid, but can’t say how long til hospitals recall all educators (since there is no peer to peer classes anymore) and she is back on the floor, which is very concerning.

Not much of a prepper, besides vape related and gun related items, nor self sustainability in nutrition; but we have at max 2 months of food, and a few thousand rounds of ammo

Someone in my county has it.
They live in the Villages Florida.
I was there all day last Friday :(
I feel alright now though.
They have one of those drive thru test sites up there now.

As far as I know there are no confirmed cases in my immediate area yet. Two cases are in two different towns, each about an hour away.

I have been at home since Friday, will be working at home on weekdays for as long as my employer will put up with it.

I imagine the stores are decimated here as well but I don't know for sure because I haven't been anywhere. The only thing I need from civilization right now is my thyroid med, have been waiting on Walgreens for days now. I have a backup plan that will carry me for a little while, but not indefinitely.

We have food for at least several weeks, and are armed to the teeth, have gasoline in the cars and a bit of cash, I guess we're ok for now.

I hope everyone can take all necessary precautions to stay safe and well, come to VU and let us cheer you up if you're down. Don't be afraid to seek out help in your community if you need it. We've come to a place where it's going to be vital that we help each other.

Thank you Gypsy for getting this started. :blowkiss:

We’ve got confirmed cases in NYC, but we’re in one of the boroughs, so not really that close.

I’m not stocked up totally yet, since I couldn’t really afford to buy tons of stuff at once.

It sucks that all of this is going on in tandem with Deeming. I hope the FDA will call it off, but they’ll prolly forget.

My neighborhood is spookily quiet, especially at night. It feels like a creepy movie, so I don’t really want to go out unless I have to. Which is what they’re telling everyone in NY to do ( in the City and the Five Boroughs.)

Great thread idea, Gypsy (and Nadalama.) I hope everyone here in our VU online family is okay and gets through this strong and healthy. I love all of you here!! <3

We are ok here so far. Shelves at stores are pretty bare, going to take advantage of the senior hours at the grocery store. Might get a chance at some food. Hubby has been doing all the running around, wants me at home because of my COPD. He's a keeper! No confirmed cases here in the south of the state, all up north. Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone, please stay safe!

Good morning, VU.

Wanted to post a check-in this morning to bump this thread up into New Posts so we can get more members to participate.

Please consider checking in each day for the next few weeks or months, as long as times are so stressful and unpredictable.

We will worry about you if you go missing.

Hugs to all.

We're as healthy as we ever can be. Unfortunately because of stocking up vape stuff I can't stock up on food and sanitizer too. We can get by for about 2 weeks. Hopefully the stores won't be empty by the time we need to shop.
The one thing we did stock up on is cat food so that should last till the shelves get restocked.
I'm considering ordering food once I have some money. Anyone use a food delivery system? I'm trying to figure out if they gauge you on the delivery fees. My DH and I are both disabled so we shouldn't be going in the store anyway.
Good luck to everyone. We'll get through this!

Do you have a Walmart that offers pickup? That's what we are using. I think @Countrypami uses grocery delivery, maybe she can chime in.

We used Amazon and Chewy with no issues.

Normally drive to Petsmart or Petco since they both carry Merrick

Yes VERY troubling times ahead of all of us. Which will last for at least several months, maybe till this time next year or beyond?
It will bring out the best in some and the worst in others.

I prepped for this before the panic started. Being independent in both myself and politically I made up my own mind long before someone told me what to think. Have about 3 months of food on hand, maybe more. mid sized freezer jammed full and decent sized pantry full of non perishables.
Have been self isolating before it became popular or mandated as I have concerns that my wife may not survive the virus.

I am doing my best to limit my out trips to once a week. Bread milk, etc or to replenish some used food to keep stockpile even.

I hear we are gonna get some free money from the govt. Talked with the wife about this and we decided to use any free money to help out the grandkids as they will surely need it.
For the wife and myself the money would be nice but we do not have to have it as our modest income is stable in retirement.

My sympathy to all out there who are suffering from the virus or the effects the pandemic is causing in our society.
Let this bring out your best not your worst. All of us need our best brought to the front to get thru this.

Yes, I use grocery delivery here in Ohio. Walmart and Aldi's both offer the service. Walmart uses a private delivery service, Aldi's uses Instacart. You do pay a delivery fee and at Aldi's a small upcharge, but it's worth not being in public and exposed.

So, Ohio... my previous updates are in my Countrypami Place thread... but I'll do my check ins here for the foreseeable future. (@Ms. Trixy @Staten Island Dom ) Ohio is bad... there are 3 confirmed cases in my city and all 3 are at the hospital I would go to if needed. Yesterday we had 88 cases... today...
119 confirmed cases
24 Ohio counties
33 hospitalizations
90137390_3351025201580771_1570564944808640512_o.jpg

I'm a stockaholic and Chris is a Frontiersman so we're good on supplies. All except toilet paper, this is the time of year that we stockpile that . But, we'll be good for a lengthy duration. All our meds were just filled for 90 days, so good there too. I did a couple delivery orders last week to cover some stuff we didn't have much of. But our store shelves are bare... no cans, no jars, no fresh meat, no TP to be found ANYWHERE, people are even hoarding things like Shake n Bake and salad dressing! (@Ms. Trixy I found some at Amazon :D )

Pretty much everything but hospitals, libraries, and grocery stores have been closed. Restaurants and bars are take out/delivery only. No gatherings of more than 50 people. So all concerts, recitals, graduations, etc... it's all shut down.

Unfortunately, Chris is an OTR truck driver with a refer... so he'll be on the road. I've always been a bit of a hermit, work from home, so I'm fine keeping my but right here at home. ;)

Unfortunately the confirmed cases of Covid 19 are very likely far less than 1% of the actual cases due to very limited testing.
So just because your town or county has no confirmed cases does not mean there are no cases there.
To many it will just appear as a cold and they will not even seek medical assistance, but could give the virus to someone it could be deadly to.

Be careful out there folks. Wash hands often. One thing I do when shopping is to use the handy hand sanitizer by the shopping carts. slather my hands good and then slather the shopping cart handle with my still wet hands.
When I get to my car with my loot I pull out my hand sanitizer from pocket and sanitize again before grabbing keys or door handle.
I refill my pocket hand sanitizer from a large bottle at home as needed.

I do also carry disposable gloves and masks in the car for if/when things get really nasty of a grand or someone close gets the virus. A few masks in a ziplock and a box of gloves.

I also carry a roll of toilet paper in a ziplock. LOL you never know. ps this habit is from long ago when I traveled a lot :)

I'm GLAD you found this thread for updates. I was feeling bad posting about all of this in your thread and knew there had to be another thread.
 Great call on the Shake n' Bake! I'm ordering today. Plus k-cups. Amazon is hiring another 100,000 employees to keep up with the demand.
They closed bars & restaurants here in Phoenix at 8pm on Monday. Everyone had to have their green beer early.
And, to my surprise, the senior center where we get canned food and other food every Thursday had food to give out! We got our usual 2 bags today.

As of yesterday:
45 confirmed cases
22 here in my county
As of today, the US death toll is 165 out of over 11,000 confirmed cases. I saw Italy's stats last night. OMG! They waived lock-down for vape shops!

I have cancelled all doctor and other appointments for the next 2 weeks. Including a 4 hour stress test I've waited 2 months for.
Chuck and I are on lock-down. With his asthma and my COPD and weak immune system, we don't want to take any chances.
I requested refills of all my meds yesterday making a note to the pharmacist that I'm refilling early and I'm aware that insurance may delay a few.

Great thread @wildgypsy70 ~!

I am holding down the fort here with my 91 and 88 year old parents worrying that I go out to get them TP~! Have the pantry stocked and my local Supermarket is doing OK with keeping meat and stuff in stock. I was out running around yesterday for stuff and prescriptions but stayed in today except for feeding the compost bin. Getting a little stir crazy trying to calm the panic the Media is causing and no known cases in the area so far.

One thing you all must remember is that many of the 1st infected tests are false positives and you will NOT be notified when the second test comes back Negative. Be safe and stay calm because only the strong survive they say.

There’s no cases in my County, but an infected cab driver is in a hospital here. Not close to us, but it’s a main hospital in Queens.

I’m only ordering food online, since I don’t want to go out and I honestly don’t want my hubby going out. He would go, but we can get stuff delivered.
Restaurants, diners, etc are delivering since DiBlasio announced an emergency in NY. So everything is closed anyway, except places that deliver.

On a lighter note...We ordered Chinese food the other day, and the delivery guy was wearing a mask under a motorcycle helmet face guard and gloves. So, it does feel like a zombie apocalypse movie! But I’m glad people are taking precautions.

So glad that we’re all checking in. And I hope each person here is safe from harm. <3

Went to wally world this morning at 6am. Only around a dozen people there. Only 3 loaves of bread so i grabbed those to make my lunches.
Plenty of milk, but no TP which i'm good on anyway. Grabbed some frozen veggies and OJ. Bought a cow a few days ago and the processor just called me to pick it up. Got 748lbs out of him so i'm good on meat. Grabbed a big bottle of hand sanitizer which is good..Job is secure because i haul fuel for a living and everyone still needs gas and Diesel so no worries there.
I feel for the food industry with all the layoffs. Stay safe everyone!

Still moving along in the Cleveland Area.. looks like the governor activated national guard to "help" with certain aspects of services. Wont lie, has me tad nervous.

Down in NOLA, my folks are held up at their camp near the beachfront in MS, my baby sis is an infectious disease nurse at a hospital down there, treating a few covid patients. She said my.golks need to stay their asses at the camp and not leave unless necessary, and certainly avoid humans.

In DC my other sis is held up at her house with her husband and daughter. They are both working from home now and avoiding people also.

So far, this sucks, physically it's not as bad as katrina recovery was, mentally its ten times worse.

Yes and the mental stress related issues will become more apparent the longer this thing drags on.
Mental health professionals will also be getting a workout.
Sadly we have a defunct mental health system to begin with. This disease will make it worse, both through an increase in people needing it; and, a decrease in funding for it.

Very true. Look for an increase in domestic violence and such. I think guns in stores are getting as scarce as toilet paper in some areas.
What's worse on that note is our police force released a statement... only responding to violent crime in progress for the foreseeable future.

In other words, " you're on your own bitches"

Most things are open. But struggling to get customers.

I rang government coronavirus hotline this week. Spent an hour on hold. Told the lady my situation, that I share a house with my elderly mother, who has emphysema and other issues.

She encouraged the obvious stuff like hygiene, diet etc. Said I'm fine to catch buses to the beach each morning for a walk.

She said to make a plan, for if I show symptoms or come into contact with a confirmed case. So we can get space between mum and I to keep her safe. But mostly be sensible with the same stuff we do during flu season to protect her.

Our Government is giving various incentives to small business. Things like funding apprentices wages, tax cuts.

Pension recipients (me) will receive $750 with the idea that pensioners gene have long want lists. And are more likely to spend and strength the economy with than middle and upper income earners, who put their GFC stimulus payments on their mortgage or credit cards. Which is less helpful to the economy.

They suspect that most school aged children already have it. Data from Europe apparently supports leaving them in school as long as possible. I can't verify that.

Our sports are ongoing. With no spectators present. And strict policy that if any player tests positive, seasons are immediately halted.

Smaller specialty stores are still pretty good with stock. Supermarket shelves are bare, with shortened hours for extra time to restock. And 7 to 8am reserved for commonwealth seniors cards holders. But butchers, green grocers, I think beauty shops would be the term for sellers of soaps etc? Are well stocked at this point

Good morning, all!

I’m here. Watching the chaos.

I'm safe. Anxious and unsure of the future, but safe in my little bubble. We have plenty of food. Plenty of vaping stuff. My man and his son are out fishing for the day. Heading out into the world in a bit. Set up a gofundme page for my restaurant last night.....hoping it will get us through my last payroll and a few bills. Then............who the hell knows. Worried about my son out in LA. Worried about my daughter and SIL. Worried about all of you.

I am a worrier, by nature, so this is right up my alley! Yay!

Checking in. Think this situation is beginning to get real with me. Hope it doesn't get much real-er. Won't help anything.

Staying in touch with work this morning, finally had a bit of an e-mail conversation with my boss. He's been quiet all week, probably "processing" all of this. Keeping it reasonably light. Most likely there are only two people working on-site in my department today.

Thinking of limiting myself to maybe 30-45 minutes in the morning and again in the evening of news-viewing. Do NOT want to find myself glued to the news 24/7 like I have done in the past with hurricane coverage and stuff like that. Might be a good idea for anyone who tends to become compulsive. Even with "this" to deal with, "this" isn't all that life is.

Fans of light fiction, romance, fantasy, crime, mystery, contemporary fiction, and various other kinds of novels, I recommend Kindle Unlimited. In my mind it is the best deal going for $11.99 a month. Everyone is going to need hobbies and various ways of keeping themselves constructively occupied. Just a thought.

Don't know what the count is here today. Doesn't matter, really, because what they are publicizing isn't the "real" count. There's been no testing to speak of in the southern and western parts of the Commonwealth, and I can do without those fake numbers. They tell me nothing.

Everyone stay safe and (mostly) out of trouble! :)

hobbies and projects, stay busy and productive in some way.

Just checking in as well. Had to go to PO in small rural town to get money order to send in for some Kratom, which btw seems to contain some of the natural chloroquinine (sp?) that is supposed to help fight the virus.
Take kratom for pain management anyway.
Stopped in a Dollar general looking for Puff tissues for the wife, no paper goods except for plates and cups.
Stopped at an IGA. They had puffs and a few paper towells and TOILET PAPER! Got some puffs and paper towels. They only had about 10 pkgs of toilet paper and limit 1. I do not need any so I left it for others more needy than I. it was the rough stuff anyway.
Followed the usual routine, hand sanitizer after each place and wash hands well when I got home and wipe down door knob, etc that I had touched with Lysol wipe.

Bedding laundry day today.

Good Friday everyone!

California finally made the decision to tell everyone to get fucked. ;)

In my opinion it was way to many days late... should of shut down everything on Monday and honestly last week.

California has nearly 41 million residents, with 8m and 12m (20m) just in San Diego and Los Angeles Counties alone.

Small perspective on this number... San Diego county has more people than the state of Wyoming, Vermont, DoC, Alaska, N&S Dakota, Rhode Island, Delaware, Montana combined and condensed in an area of the size of Rhode Island alone. Los Angeles county even more condensed.

Scary times for sure, lack of resources and I am sure soon (Opinion), Gov. Newsom will activate the National Guard to shut down non-essential travel in and out of the state within a week. Think Border checks.

Still healthy though for now, but afraid its an inevitability that time will be the victor.

Most worried about my Mums in New Mexico, she is old and not of great health... talking with her daily; I just know with her health issues, if she contracts CoVid, it will end her and in rapid action.

Checking in ~ Gov. Cuomo FINALLY decided to stop all non essential businesses!!! Starting Sunday night in NYC.

I also feel this should have been done earlier! I have been at work all week, commuting, possibly exposing myself because, even though we had absolutely no freaking work, we were still open and if I took off if would be coming out of my sick/vacation time.

I feel perfectly fine but I'm pissed I had to be here all week. Even now, I'm sitting here in my office w nothing to do. Gov made the announcement, and we can't even leave early?! Fuck
