Checking in. Hubby went to wally's early this am, wanted to avoid the first of the month craziness. Only about 30 people there at 6am. He found everything but bleach! I still have a little, but I use it a lot. He is very protective of me, so he strips off inside the door and starts the washing machine. Wipes down his shoes, then washes his hands and face. He does use a mask and gloves when out. He is for sure a keeper! Staying inside now until he has to pick up prescriptions.
Please stay safe and healthy
According to what a micro biologist posted on YT regular detergent strips something off the outer layer of the virus rendering it inert.

My husband is on the way to Walmart now, or is there picking up our order now, in the pouring rain. I didn't know at 4:30 yesterday morning that it was going to be pouring rain at 2 pm today. Hopefully it will stop or at least slack off soon so we don't have to unload the groceries in the rain.

I placed an online order for some bulk foods. It was hard to find a place with decent prices that had anything in stock! I swear I think a lot of places have jacked their prices up, but a moderate amount could mean that they are paying their workers a hazard premium for continuing to work. If that's the case, I'm fine with it. I'm not fine with some rich guy getting richer off my little bit of money while there's a crisis going on, but also not much I can do about it.

A farm supply place where I found Bear Creek soup mixes in stock wanted to charge $19.95 for shipping on a $40 order. Nope. I guess we won't have soup mixes. Not that desperate yet. I got mostly beans and rice and peanuts from other places.

Had a rough evening last night - long story short, my daughter in Seattle is getting tested this afternoon after developing a low grade fever and other symptoms yesterday

She is severely immunocompromised so this is a big worry but she is keeping us updated which helps a lot

Pa is moving too slow I fear. They just keep adding county by county-well over half the state-growing daily. All transportation to phila and nyc cancelled. Libraries now closed "indefinately" Glad I shopper with purpose 2 weeks ago. Went out for lettuce last fri-which will/may last to early next week before I will go for more. It's a beautiful drive-back country roads-about 25 mins. to a farm. By then I will need more citrus-but may start getting my c's from a jar.
@nadalama I believe we are in this for the long haul.A few months minimum-if we are lucky. Too many people out and about countrywide. Agree with @The Cromwell a vaccine is needed.

Ok so I'm going to nominate a theoretical discussion for today, feel free to participate, because it's on my mind and I feel some urgency about it.

What is required, what are the factors to think about, if we have to change our mindsets to look at this thing in terms of months and not weeks?

A week ago this past Friday, March 20, was the last day I was in the office. During the course of that day I decided that I was going to start working from home, that I wasn't really going to ask permission so much as I was going to say that I felt unsafe traveling and exposing myself to other people, being that I am immunocompromised and generally not very healthy. At that point in time I didn't define the duration of that change to myself or them, specifically, but if I'd been pressed to give an answer to "how long," I'd have said maybe three to four weeks.

I think it's now clear that three to four weeks isn't going to be it. But I'll be damned if I can see what "it" could reasonably be.

Anyone who feels bold enough to discuss "it," let's hear your thoughts. We need to get our minds at least pointed in the right direction.

You can argue with me about what I'm about to say, but I'm not a big believer in avoiding conflict and challenge. If you hide, it will wait on you. I'd rather confront and fight it than hide and just end up putting it off for later.
“It”? I believe that we’re in this til at least late May, early June. Our governor thinks so....June 10 is the “end date” in VA. And I saw that in VA, were not getting our peak until mid May. We’re not even close. NY might be close, but there are states in the mid west that have barely begun.

I’m not a doomsday person. I’m a realist. Looking at the trends/numbers, we’re in for a long haul. A long, long haul.

My Amazon order finally shipped and apparently does include toilet paper. I was charged for the full amount of the order, so I'm assuming that means that nothing was out of stock. Also contained paper towels, some baby wipes, and a huge box of pancake mix. Don't ask me, it seemed like a good idea at the time. :teehee: I was distressed.

@Smigo good to hear that you and wife are holding steady. I hope you both will feel all better very soon.

The very important thing that a lot of people fail to realize (or remember) is that, when a society has a lot of personal freedom, it also must bear the responsibility of using that freedom wisely. The responsibility part has been all but forgotten, it seems.

Pancakes are great comfort food. And now is a good time for comfort eating, imho.

Checking in. I'm getting sick with something. I don't think it's the corena virus. Probably just a bad cold but I'm miserable. My poor throat is raw from coughing. Anyone that prays please pray I get over this soon. I'm tired of this already. I'm also a whiney baby when I'm sick lol

Feel better, Ani. I’ve been coughing too, so I think it’s allergies since this is the season for it.

I will pray for you, my friend.

Checking in!

Braved the supermarket today. Gloves and bandana over my face. I felt like a bank robber. Lol! Still no TP, paper towels or cleaning stuff. But the rest of the food seemed relatively well stocked. Then went to a different supermarket for a few other things and found TP.....$7 for a 4 pack. Oh. Hell. No. I don’t need it yet....just checking out the landscape. The landscape is price gouging.

Mixed a few 60mls of some yummy Boozy Coconut Pound Cake and Nanaimo Custard. I was running out.......

Planning on cleaning the house and gardening tomorrow.

Thinking of all y’all. Stay safe!

I was thinking about this last night. I think it’s going to be months too. I was watching a BBC newscast and their gov’t health people are telling people to expect lock down for another 6 months or so.

What I wonder about is how we’re expected to rest in place without supplies. Although it sheds some light on the money Trump made available to everyone.

The problem with a vaccine only, imho, is that they are preventative only. We’d need something to treat the virus, as well as to prevent it like a vaccine.

So yes a vaccine is great, but we need effective anti-virals right now.

Well, our Governor issued a Statewide Stay-at-Home order last night as of this morning. But you can still play gold and get your nails done. He severely needs to scale down his list of "essential services". Where he came up with an essential list which included salons and

We've had 100 cases reported as new everyday over the weekend. I have a copy of the 5 page executive order I want to go through and find the list of what he deems "essential services". Yes, we are a very wealthy city. A lot of money is passed around here by rich and influential people. Apparently the Governor wants that to continue discarding the fact that even rich people get sick.

I spoke with my son in Utah 2 days ago. The one who said, "Mom, I'm not getting masks and stuff." And that he is located remotely, has no friends over and doesn't have to worry about it. The kid is an insurance adjuster! They recently had an earthquake and he's up to his neck in seeing homeowners! He doesn't have TP, hand sanitizer, gloves, masks, ample food and other sundries for the long haul. I told him I'd send him what I could, including 2 big rolls of TP. I should have told him to go searching high and low to get what he needs and grow up you little shit! He's 34yrs old.

Other than that, in a way I feel relief that I don't have to stress about certain things we were under the gun to do. So, I sit here in front of the PC for 12hrs a day, chat with you all, try to avoid severe anxiety which I have a huge problem with and try to keep my credit card in my wallet. The latter doesn't seem to be working very well.

I hope this finds you all in good health and spirits.

Although it sheds some light on the money Trump made available to everyone.

Do not be blind though. Trump is trying to find a way that he gets money as well. "Oh, national crisis. Let me get a big profit."

So yes a vaccine is great, but we need effective anti-virals right now.

Be wary of the two drugs they're shipping to New York. My wife says they showed no difference in effect from the control group. These are hydroxychloroquine, chloroquine, zithromax. Not saying this to nay say hope, only passing along info.

You're right about allergy season. I been fighting with allergies, sinus and slight cough from allergies. Looked on the WV DHHR site and see the nearest testing sites to us is Parkersburg, or Vienna they are both 40 miles North away via Interstate. You need a doctor's order for getting tested as well, which to me makes sense. That way anyone with only allergies doesn't waste resources/time/effort/money.

My wife says, "So, we're all like puppies now. If we got a runny wet nose we're okay." It seems an accurate summary. And so I've checked in. In short no news is good news, as to say if I'm not here saying we're dealing with some kind of crap, corona or other well just figure we're at least okay.

Her car was moved into the shop. I'm hoping they've someone working on it. The itemized bill they mailed was for nearly twice more than what we expected. She laughed though. "Here's the check to pay it in full from the insurance company." That feels nice at least. Still regret we killed a deer like that. Then again with them being suicidal I reckon she got what she deserved. I know critters aren't dumb and they feel. At the same time what does any critter expect when it crosses the road of man?

Well, reckon I'm, ... y'all run 'er slow & stay safe. :)

Yep just watched a doctor vid on youtube about it. The chinese study using them showed no difference and the french study did not show a difference using them either however they are claiming they did. But this doctor studied their results and said there was essientially no difference with using them or not in their ver limited study. He said that the studies only proved that using the 2 drugs would not make you worse.

our president will likely tout what the French are saying though.

People are better off just using Quercetin, which at least deals with the symptoms.

I read this thread to keep up with how the folks here on the forum are dealing with this pandemic and offer any help if I am able to do so. I find it sad and pathetic to read posts that take cheap shots and try to make it political. This issue isn't about politics, it's much greater than that, it's about humanity. It's really unfortunate there are some who are so beholden to their "team" and ideologies that everything they see from their diseased eyes is political.

Just wash your hands carefully for 20 seconds with warm water. If you’re not going outside, you should be fine.

Corona is a virus, so anti bacterial stuff won’t kill it, anyway. Use a scarf for a mask, and winter gloves for gloves. It’s what I’m doing now, until I can possibly find masks/gloves.:hug:

I got my gloves and masks from Amazon but that was before any rush had started. I think only WA state had cases then. Edit: I checked my amazon list and I had my masks and gloves before the end of January.
harbor Freight also sells cheap decent gloves.
Wally world here has had antibacterial soap but no sanitizer. regular soap works just as well for the virus handwashing as the anti bacterial stuff will not kill virus I think.
Edit: the antibacterial soap will not kill the virus any better than regular soap will. Detergent makes it inert.

I heard about someone ordering N95 masks from Fasttech.

Just ordered some n95 masks from FT as the ones I have are the bare minimum type.
Might get the virus and have to isolate from my wife or start wearing while grocery shopping if it gets much worse here. I wear gloves now.

o you think the Deer are really suicidal or for some odd they just ran in front of your vehicle? This is a thing with deer now?

Yes the deer in WV get suicidal, unfortunately. This is a reason why illegally taking deer out of season here is not strongly enforced. The deer population here gets incredibly large at times.

There's even special seasons called to allow an open hunt, just to thin them down. This means bucks or does, no fawn. At the same time if a doe is near fawn you might not feel regret in taking her as doing so is for the good of population control.

WV also allows for hunting deer as varmints on private land as they can ruin crops, destroy fencing for livestock.Imagine losing $10,000 worth of corn, tobacco, beans due to deer coming in and trampling, eating it all up. Hard pressed to not try to find some kind of justice by stopping the deer fiends.

To the credit of WV's Hillbillies no one actually steps out of line too far, to the extreme that people poach deer. It is perfectly fine if you need to eat that you hunt deer with, or without license, at least that seems the general consensus. Do not abuse that however and you need to use all you kill, or barter and trade it, give it away.

As far as I can tell it's been "a thing" with the deer here in WV since I was five years old. My step dad brought us back here that year to join Uncle Luther's hunt. A lot of the family came and covered all of his farm land/s. It's probably been this way a lot longer than that. Our hunt would have been back in 1977, in 1976 we celebrated bicentennial and I was four years old, in 1978 I had the last flu I've ever had in my life.

Why do I want flu injected into me? Dead or alive its still the damn flu being injected into me. No thank you. Not had any flu since '78, won't start having it again. So, I refuse flu shots. And yes I know it's more about being for "everybody else". Well you know what? Everybody else ain't me and in this case I will be selfish a bit. Not had it, don't look to get it and if I do I'll be smart enough to stay home when sick and not spread it. Gee, I do that when I have an actual cold too. So I reckon I'm not as selfish as let on, eh?

Nor am I as stupid as those what don't stay home when ill and continue spreading illness without care to exercise common sense, empathy, compassion, humanism. But then you know I have trouble being a dryer setting. :)

I know you want to work, but maybe not while we’re in a Doomsday Book scenario.

Do appreciate the concern but honestly it doesn't matter to me, and in fact even such a bad scenario still presents itself as an "excuse". And yes it might be reasonable to not work during such a time. Still there's no point sitting here feeling useless.

regular soap works just as well for the virus handwashing as the anti bacterial stuff will not kill virus I think.

Correct. Plain old soap and water as hot as you can stand does the job. It attacks the fatty layer of the virus protein actually, this in turn then kills off the virus as it cannot sustain itself. People don't need anything fancy, soap and water works. If you want then after washing hands you can sanitize just as extra precaution but the soap and water are enough.

And this also helped get rid of Black Death as well. Cleanliness drove off the rats carrying the ticks which transmitted the plague. The Catholic Church at the time was less than helpful as they took to killing off domesticated cats which also fought against the rats. The Church's reasoning was that the cats were devil spawn and it was them which brought the disease, or so it was said/told.

I think however perhaps the Church had other motives, perhaps even one a touch sinister. What better way to cleanse the land of the Pagani (Latin, now in modern English it is Pagan), (those who live in the hills) that could not read or write and were ignorant, followed heathen ways? So, they stopped a possible contributing cure.

The Pagani loved cats. They knew cats keep rats/mice at bay and out of cereal cribs/silos. So farms in these rural areas often encouraged small prides of cats. And by saying cereal above I mean any kind of grain crop really, maize, oats, wheat, barley, rice, mullet. This clashing of cultures over cats also explains why the popular images of witches soon presented as having familiars as cats. The Church demonized pastoral life that it so promotes in suggesting the allegory of a "good shepherd".

I wear gloves now.

Hold me back! That sounds kinky. ;) :) :D

I'm fuckin tired of turning on the TV and it's all political ads and bullshit.
So I come here to get some relief from it, to see how you all are doing on this thread and have to hear the bullshit here also.
Good luck to all.
I'm done with this place too!

I agree with all you said except the leaving part! Please stay !

My family and I are all doing OK here in Western NY- my 4 grands and daughter live with hubby and I, so they have been keeping us busy! We all seem to be healthy, staying indoors because of the rain and chilly temps here. Getting fresh meat at our store has been a challenge- but the freezer is now stocked with veggies , meat and bread. We are just taking this one day at a time, staying away from people waiting for this evil virus to pass.
We are on week 3 here- no school,no stores, no dance and music lessons, no Y, no restaurants ,but we are doing a lot of cooking and eating and crafts and praying for all those who have been infected and affected by this horrible virus!
I worry about my 85 year old dad- but we are in phone contact and he gets food delivery, so he is fine too, lives alone, he misses his friends when they all meet for daily breakfast.

I totally agree!
I hope that you and your family are doing OK-

Ok, 1210 am, sitting up watching tv. Awesome, Just started pouring down rain, first time in the past month and today I just checked our drinking water tank and it was down to 1/3. Will fill with this downpour for sure. Is bucketing down. Did not expect this tonight at all. This is music to my ears as our town supply here is horrid and like swimming pool water to smell. It comes from a blue green algae reservoir that is treated with enough chemicals to turn a person into a mutant.
It's raining and filling our tank! :bliss:
Seriously, the frogs in the front yard that have been silent for over 6 months are singing their heads off! :)

That's so good to hear! I think we often take our rain, well all the weather, really, for granted here where I live. I had a good Internet friend in SA, with whom I haven't been in touch now for a while, but her stories of drought and dust storms and the heat, omg the heat! Electricity outages for weeks when she couldn't run her air conditioning, and she alone and in her mid-70s. Yes, when I think of it, we are spoiled here. COVID-19 is going to teach the United States a huge lesson, I'm afraid - obviously not to do with weather, but with being so cosseted, and our tendency to take important things for granted.

Hope you and the wife are feeling better today.
