How is your health with lockdown?

Hi everyone. Hope everyone is doing well. But in recent days it has crossed my mind how Covid19 is affecting us all? In particular the Lockdown. Me and my misses personally, mentally are doing ok, but I am wondering about the association with the stress of it all on our mental health transferring to our physical health. I know we all suffer more or less to a degree psychologically, but how about how is it affecting you, us, me, physically?
To be honest I think that the Lockdown is physically causing me some issues! I get allergies that I can usually control. But since covid I have noticed an increase in some skin rashes. Not extreme but itching, some red areas on my face that flare up and subside. I usually spend a lot of time outdoors but now it is minimum time. I cant help but feel its a result of being in lockdown and due to mental stress (which I am not consciously aware of but am affected by) as well as lack of usual physical outdoors activity. I really think that as much as my tough guy side wants to say "its all cool, got it under control" that in reality a toll is taking place.
To me here I think it this. To you guys and others elsewhere where it is times 100 plus it must be stress plus, plus. Has anyone else noticed stress related physical issues?

Apparently, both Santa and I are in the "Endangered" group.

I have a house on 5 acres and so do all my neighbors so no contact there.

Groceries being delivered to us and we guaranteen them for 24 hours which is long enough to kill the cooties.]

Doctors being seen via Teleconference. Medications being delivered..

Adult Beverages being Delivered.

We have a lovely area to take rides in.

Have Spectrum, Netflix, CBS. Hulu, TUBI, PLUTO, and most of the networks.

Access to the digital library and nothing has really slowed Amazon down.

Its warm enough that if we need Live Entertainment, we can take a drive to Wallmart we can still see the fashion show.

The mental aspect of it kind of comes and goes, for me. We're mostly homebodies, so that part isn't killing us, other than if you want to go somewhere, you really can't. I can't really go and hang out and visit with his mom, or my neighbor, though. That bums me out.

Physically, I'm at work at least 10 hours a day, in a mask, which is mandatory. Not trying to sound like a whiner, just part of the physical health, but the mask really aggravates my rosacea, which is normally under control. I try to keep in mind all those Drs. and nurses that have to deal with that on a much bigger level. They're hot, they're uncomfortable, so my heart goes out to them for so much of what they do. I know I'm exhausted by the time I leave work, so I just can't imagine. Bless 'em!

When all this had just started out in the states, I was fearful anywhere I went, including at home. I was a real bitch at work, a real bitch at home, and pissed off at everyone at the grocery, LOL. I think that part has calmed down, mostly, though I'm still a pissed off bitch at the grocery, because people are thoughtless and stupid.

At this stage, I'm used to being home, used to not finding what I need/want at the store, though I do have enough today. I feel lucky, I feel grateful that none of this has affected loved ones.

Stay safe everyone.

My best friends wife had it and has recovered. My uncle had it and has passed away. My wife's best friends father has it and will probably pass away. The mother of my nephews children currently has it. I am having to continue working in it, and have some health issues of my own. My youngest daughter has asthma and has had many bouts with RSV, so I am terrified of her getting it, or even worse, me bringing it home to her. So yeah, taking a toll for sure. I think I have just moved on to numbness. Never felt so helpless in my life.

It sounds like COVID is much more up-close-and-personal for you than it is for some of us, but then again, I think there are plenty of us who just don't say much and just keep putting one foot in front of the other, like you have up till now. I am so sorry, this sounds like a big old load of stress and worry to me. The whole situation has been so shocking, and once it's really in your life, up close, I can imagine that it quickly gets overwhelming.

The trouble I've had personally is nothing compared to some/many. So far it's been mere inconvenience, in comparison, and really very little of that. The biggest concern in my family is that two of my children are without jobs, and neither of them eligible for any more unemployment, and this is a helluva time to be in that predicament. My own personal situation has changed very little, since I was staying at home most of the time anyway, and working at home three days a week even before COVID. I was already not one for shopping or movies or doing a lot of running around.

As much as I want to say it doesn’t affect me, it does.

My physical health is better now than it was a year ago, this is mostly due to taking control of my diet.

Mental health, I worry much more about my wife and family members, my older brother and his immediate family and my mums mostly.

My brother in the Philippines has lived a long destitute life, you can see the wear and tear in his physique, his lack of vernacular and surroundings; I help him monetarily as much as I can, and the crazy thing that will shock many of you... I didn’t know he existed til a year ago.

My mum, old... copd... this disease scares me and is my largest stressor as of late... my mum gets it... it will kill her... her demise naturally I can cope with... but taken in a miserable fashion as Covid has been portrayed, I’d much rather my mum die peacefully in her sleep than suffer.

Wife, stresses me each time she says her float pool of other RNs are being assigned else where... takes me from, “she’s safe to OMG where they sending you now” and she takes the long way of explaining things to reduce said stressors.

So now rather it taking 5 minutes of asking her what her duties will be I just ask, “cooties or no cooties”

But yeah, physically, all good... walk at minimum 3 miles a day sometimes 5-6, mentally a damn yo-yo weekly.

Monetary reasons can be just as big of a deal as health, one feeds the other, especially mentally. I will say as rough as it has been on those close to us health wise, it has had zero impact on us financially, unlike so many others. I am working as many or more hours as before Covid, and my wife is a special ed teacher, so although not working she is making the same as if she was. I try very hard every day to focus my energy and thankfulness on this.

This describes me to a T

When this shit first got serious, my feelings changed almost minute by minute, now it changes a few times a day

Most of my worry/stress is because of family that definitely would not survive this - my husband and youngest daughter for sure
Also worry about my eldest girl and my 1-year-old grandson, her husband is a nurse working at a hospital in SF and it is difficult not to stress about everyone I love

Between your mom, wife and brother, I would sure see it wearing on you mentally. How could it not? Many thoughts for their continued safety.

I'm very depressed. I miss being at work very much. I'm working from home, but it sucks. But the thing that weighs on me the most is when I think about my children's future.

Hi. I think my allergies are a bit like that rosacea. When I look at pictures of it my cheeks have that look about them. I get allergies to dust and moulds but as I usually am outdoors a lot it stays pretty much ok. Now I'm mostly indoors its a whole different story. What do you do for the rosacea? I spoke to a Dr via phone and was told to try antihistamine tablets. She didn't see me of course so took a guess at it being contact dermatitus reaction kind of thing.

Like others have said, that is a lot to deal with. I get asthma so the idea of ever getting it is a worry. Here is hoping you and your family stay well.

To the rest of the replies here I hope you all hang in there ok, which is easy to say, not so easy to do. What some of you are going through makes my problems look stupid in comparison.

Thanks, appreciate it, but no problems or worries are small or stupid in this situation. It's almost impossible to comprehend, but this has literally affected every single person in the world, one way or another. Just nuts.

Work is an outlet for many, I think. I know it is for me. As much as I may bitch about it, I would go nuts without going to work.

Being a social anxiety sufferer I kinda like it.
Heck I do not even have to take the wife to church and sit thru that anxiety generating event.
And being retired no work concerns.
Some anxiety about wifes safety since she is at risk.
And feel kinda silly wearing a mask when out, but getting used to that.

I let it run it's course. I've really never come across anything that was super helpful that was affordable, even with insurance. I don't get too many flare ups, but I purposely don't spend much time in the sun because of it. Discomfort is one thing, miserable I don't do well, LOL. I'm a big baby.

I think the biggest effect for me is worrying about family. We are so spread out. Washington, Montana, California, Arkansas, and we are here in New Mexico. Wouldn't be able to get to any of them. Daughter and SIL we packing to move back here when this started, so that didn't happen. She is the most at risk, and my baby.

Stay safe and healthy

Other than not being able to work I'm doing really well, physically. My diabetes is more in control than it's been in many years. Eating regular, more healthy meals. No fast food. Bought a new smoker/grill and I'm either grilling or smoking something everyday. Grilling/ smoking meats seems to be a hobby many have either picked up or renewed with all of the extra time. My best friend and his wife have come over a few times to eat what I'm cooking. It's easy to keep distance.

Obviously spending a lot more time with the kids which is a blessing with my son going off to college (800 miles away) in a few months...possibly. Then it'll just be my wife, daughter, and I. Not ready for him to move out. We have a place out in the country ( small house on 275ish acres) and we've been going out there every other weekend since we have the time with all of the extra activities (scouts) reduced to zoom meetings. Wife is still going to work each day.

Mentally I'm up and down. The whole mask thing is wearing on me. I wear one when I'm out, but every where I go about half are wearing one and half aren't. Half of those wearing one aren't wearing it correctly. Nose exposed or pulled down under their chin so I wonder what's the point? I have to limit my social media exposure because it either depresses me more or pisses me off. I have a lot of friends/ coworkers who think it's all a joke or made up conspiracy crap, but then I see posts like dubya314's where he's been greatly effected by it all. Also, other than cooking, I'm starting to run out of shit to do. Getting too hot to just sit outside most of the day like I had been. Over all I'm doing better than many so I feel fortunate.

Great you have such a good property to escape to. Here mask protection is yes and no, most here where I am dont bother. I think it is because our positive cases are so low. But I still believe that even though that is the case it means nothing, wear one, save lives! But nobody now here seems to care even though I tell people what is happening, that I read here, is real! Its like they think it is a fake report blah blah blah. I hope the complacency I keep seeing here does not blow up in our faces.

Do you have any raw garlic? If she’s got any kind of infection, then eating half or an entire clove should help. Just chop it a bit so that the Allicin in it can activate. And not on an empty stomach. Even one little clove can be hard to eat raw.

Hope the missus feels better, soon.

Hey Don. Yeah, i understand where you’re coming from. I’m reading a LOT lately and that helps pass time. Maybe pick up a book you’ve never had time to read? After a bit of getting used to, it’s pretty relaxing imho.

Sometimes I pickle it first, that way it actually tastes good, lol

I used to be able to gobble down garlic all the time. I stopped for a few years, and now I’m starting again. Whoa. My stomach is not so thrilled! But at least the nausea stage has passed.

Raw garlic got me through a bout of blood poisoning once, when I cut my finger on an old frame trying to get the glass out. I took mostly garlic and some echinacea. I was so sick! :blech:

Do you pickle stuff the same way you culture veggies? I wanted to try adding some garlic to cabbage etc.

You certainly can try - I add garlic to almost everything I pickle, even mangos and stuff like that

Hi, yeah we do have it in our diet. We get a fair bit of it each year from a few old homesites in a couple of bush areas. No buildings left just some old fruit trees and garlic growing wild. They were probably from the late 1800's early 1900's. They are single clove ones, no segments and are milder than the shop ones. Most of the bush ones that are left from old homesites are the single clove type. The fruit trees are disappearing though with each successive drought we have unfortunately.
We still buy the shop garlic though for its stronger aroma and different taste.
Raw though doesnt agree with me at all.

It’s really hard to take! But as long as you cut or smash it, you can roast it or cook it and it will still have the anti biotic/anti viral properties. Allicin works great for a lot of things. Just a thought.

Thanks for the advice. Im sure i will look foward to include those. I read Zinc is specially efective as a natural anti-inflammatory.

Vitamin C is also a classic supplement, i use it too, every now and then.

I’ve read that Zinc and D3 deficiency is making people susceptible to corona. It can’t hurt to take it.

Hello Sacha. Glad you are well. We heard and saw how frightening it was in Italy. I guess in ways it still is but glad to hear that things are past the worst and getting better.
I'm in Australia, one of the least affected countries virus wise allthough we have had the same restrictions and lockdowns imposed upon us.
Here is hoping you stay well and safe there.

I live in Italian covid epicenter, Milan. I'm ok, very healthy, no issues with covid. Here the situation is always getting better, it's almost passed. In March, we had big problems.

Musings on lockdown and health.
Aside from the aches and such of getting older my health has been better since lockdown/isolation began.
I have had no intestinal bugs, colds, etc.
Apparently the isolation/precautions prevents one from catching other things as well.

They opened the gyms in AD the other day. I went and weighed myself and I had lost 2 kg. I'm sore as hell from lifting the last 3 days, but it feels great.
