Reports on safety issues regarding the new Cloupor Mini are coming in from all over the world right now.

Users of the Cloupor Mini have been reporting melting and burning around the battery housing when charging the unit using a laptop, or car charger. Cloupor’s advice? “About Charging Problems, Please use stable current charging device to charge our Cloupor mini or charge the 18650 battery independently. And you know, the computer and car charger’s output current is not stable, so we do not recommended users to plug cloupor mini devices into computers/laptops or car charger. Thank you.”

This advice may be a little late in arriving looking at the pictures some users have posted on various groups around the internet, which are all from different users for the Cloupor Mini.

So according to Cloupor, you should only charge via a wall socket plug which was not provided in the box, or remove the battery and charge separately. At this moment, passthrough use may not be a good idea either.

Thankfully, there have been no injuries thus far attributed to the Cloupor Mini meltdowns.

So what does a "stable current" have to do with it. It's either protected or it's not protected, right?

"So what does a "stable current" have to do with it. It's either protected or it's not protected, right?" Yes, what @vaperture said. Thankfully I take my battery out and charge separately. and I dont use passthrough. So far my mini performs great but I have been babying it since I know Cloupor's track record.

Greeeeaaat... I ordered a Cloupor knock-off, of a ZNA last week, a user on the Politically-Hypocrytical vaping forum stated his device died in a month...glad I have two other devices preceeding it, in arrival time...fock.

I bought the clopour last Saturday at my local shop. I vaped on it happily for exactly one week. Yesterday I took the mini off the charger and went out to vape. After 4 or 5 hits I smelt burning electrics. I looked at the screen and barely could read Too Hot. Then I felt the mod get real hot. I pulled the battery door off to see the cloupor sticker smoldering. I yanked the battery out and threw it down. The picture above looks exactly how mine did. I took it back to the shop and was able to swap it out for a Smok Xpro M36 upgraded to 45w. From reading online Clopour seems to have some questionable QC so buyer beware.

I'd say at this point that Cloupor has an entire production run that is defective/dangerous.

Mine came yesterday. Nice little mod that works great so far but time will tell.
I'm hoping it was a bad production run and mine is not part of the defective batch but we'll see.
I'm a heavy vaper and I'm gonna push it hard with an RTA built at 0.5 staying wide open at 30 watts to see if it'll take it.
If it's gonna fry I want it to do it quick so I can move on.

Mine came in today and I'm running it a little more conservative, topped it with an N22 dripper at .74 and 19.5 watts is the power I've dialed in. The plan is for the nifty charger to sit in the cool box it came in while I replace my batteries that were charged on my Nitecore D4. From what I've seen, and I could be wrong, but most if not all the units that fried had used a/the USB charger at one point or another. The fault didn't necessarily happen strictly while it was being charged. But those who charged the battery externally and didn't use the USB port on the Cloupor had no issues with it melting. Unintended power feedback loop between the charging IC and the main board maybe?

some vapers and vendors I speak to ( and i speak to a lot) prefer not to deal with UK Ecig, (UKE) what with the VTC5 issues and perceived rating of service, but can I give my humble opinion: the service I have found is what makes a good company, when things go different to expected, what do they do to rectify this, well UKE took the decision to keep us safe and recall all their cloupor mini from 1st stock issue, this was before any recall by cloupor themselves or stating which batches were at issue, I personally appreciated this concern for my safety and duly returned my much loved mod, then on same day of receipt UKE added to my account the monetary value of original product, cost of return and £5 on top in the form of reward points which I hastily spent on a sigelei 30 w mini and a subtank mini to pair it with, well done UKE (I do not work for or have any affiliates to UKE, I purchase from at least 15 different vendors ranging from fat daddy vapes to vape club etc, etc)

from clouper: Connect a atomizer and press the fire button 15s at 30W(just one time) , if doesn’t show "Too hot" ,that’s a good unit.

@Steam Powered Did you ever test your Mini with the .5 RTA at 30 W for straight 15 secs? What was the result?

I built a set of coils at 0.45Ω (the lowest the mini will fire) on my Mutation X and held it for 15 seconds at 30 watts.
I did it 3 times in a row and never got a "too hot" reading even though the last time it set my cotton on fire even as I was blowing on it.
Interesting thing I found out doing this. Even though the puff timer stopped at 15 seconds it never cut power to the atty. It just kept firing.

It was my second Vamo, but only Aerotank...I had a Vamo V2 that was my first step up from eGos, but I pif'd it a long while back. I still use that V5 Vamo, but it has a Kayfun 3.1 on it now.

Getting back to the Cloupor, ran the test on mine today, happy feet shuffle...I have a good one.

I emailed clouper about this exact issue.. I asked why it would allow us to fire for that long without being cut off.. asking if this is a design flaw - This is the response I got - Holy fuck lol.. idiots..

Hi,

That's just for checking ur mini mod.Your mini mod is OK if it's normal after u do that.

Don't worry about that,thanks!

I said thanks but you didn't answer any of the 4 questions I asked in my email - thanks for the great service!

Nice response there Cloupor.. lol
That's the only con I have with it. I've pounded and pushed mine as hard as I can. I've even used it in pass through in my 18 wheeler on the mobile charger cord, something Cloupor said not to do. That "unstable current" deal they said earlier didn't add up. Either it's current protected or not..

But so far I can't seem to break this little guy. It's working perfect. I just hope I don't accidentally mash the fire button down in my pocket or dash cause then things gonna get hot quick. Maybe I should rig up a locking ring on it like on a mech tube? lol.

Do you normally take a puff longer than 15 seconds? Why would you keep pushing the button longer than 15 seconds?

@wildwildwest The 15 sec fire @30 W is the test that cloupor suggested owners of the mini try to see if their respective unit was one of the defective batch. Which made me wonder if mine was and i conducted the procedure but i held a bit longer past the 15s counter and the unit still continued to fire. i had thought that it would not let past 15s.

Interesting, I ran the test on mine a couple of days back and it cut off at the 15 second mark. But it also didn't display the too hot message. I'm pleased with this little beast. My only complaint, and it's really minor, is the battery door. Shifts every once in awhile depending on how you're holding it. Doesn't come open, just wiggles a bit. No big deal.

I too did the 15 second test; my unit didn't even get warm, and it still works perfectly. I'm just curious as to why you would do something that would never be recreated in the real world. Nobody takes 15 second hits, right? That's kind of like the bogus tests that were performed with machines that were "vaping" at 1000 watts. Also something that would never happen in real life. Or would it?J

No I never take puffs that long. That's not the point.
It needs to stop firing after 15 seconds as a safety measure.
Fire buttons get pushed and held accidentally all the time. (pockets, car dashes etc)

Evidently Cloupor has corrected the flaws. I bought 3, one for myself, one for my wife and one for a good friend.
We've vaped 'em hard for a couple weeks with sub ohm builds at max power with and zero problems.
Pretty nice little mods IMO. Especially at the cheap price point.

@Donald Bickers and @Steam Powered the thing is when you ordered or purchased. Looks like those that preordered or were first to get them ran the chance of getting a bad unit. Maybe now cloupor has done some Qc and made sure their product is good now.

Yep @Prsurf2k...that seems to be the case. They should have done some testing instead of using paying customers as guinea pigs.
But at least they found the defect and fixed it.
@wally yes..they have announced the correction on their web site.

China has always used us as testers usually at our expense this way they don't have to pay out all that money on engineers, quality control and the time it takes would set them behind on the mod race to be the first. Saves them a ton of money and we do all the dirty work.

Agreed...That's what I'm seeing also. That's why I've sworn off pre-orders....forever!

It's not the tank that explodes - it's the battery venting causing the mod to explode (and everything else). The clouper mini has had this problem (hence the title of this thread!)

A couple of days short of 2 months now, still running it in the upper 20's on the watts daily, still cold as ice. The cover over the wiring/boards came off a while back...a tad bit of epoxy and it's as good as shipped. I really don't foresee having issues with this unit, so I won't report further on this. Cloupor messed a few up, fixed the problem. I'm sure they aren't the only company to rush a product to market that wasn't quite ready in recent times...
