I have a Lunar Mech Mod using an IMR 18650 battery. I bought a Plume Veil RDA to drip, and recently ran out of kanthal. I want to buy 26 gauge kanthal and do a six wrap coil on each side, but wanted to see what works best for my build and whether i'd be better off with 28 gauge or doing a different coil style. Thoughts?

I just rebuilt my Plume Veil last night, tried a 30 gauge 3mm 3 wrap per side and didn't like it very much. Flavor was very muted and the vape was too hot. Re-built it with 26 gauge 3mm 7 wraps per side and I'm liking it much more, flavor and vapor production is really good and its a nice cool vape. I've got my coils very close to the airflow holes and about level with the top of the build deck. Be careful with how high you raise the coils as I burnt the delrin a bit on my first build.

Azvapor I use a calculator app just put in volts fresh charged 18650 4.2 volts and coil ohms and it tells you amps and watts loads of apps out now.
I do 7 wraps round a 2 mm screwdriver dual coil loads flavour and pretty decent clouds don't go lower than .5 ohm gets a bit too warm for me but a lot of people like warm vape. Do you have ohm reader.
I use 28 gauge kanthal do a dual 7 wrap and that will b .3 ohm with 26 gauge.
What batteries do you use if you go lower than .5 ohm make sure you got good high drain battery and get yourself a ohm reader check your ohms and check for shorts and also get some knowledge on ohms law drawing to many amps out of your battery could end in disaster.
Nothing wrong with going lower than .5 ohm if you got good battery I just don't like I said bit too warm for me.
THIS...you should without a doubt be using an ohm reader. You don't wanna play guessing games with resistance, at the very least use something like steam engine to work it out
good to know ill order one. I found steam engine recently and its been very helpful. I just ordered some 26 gauge so Im going to use that for now, although I've been looking into dual and quad builds and not many people use 26. what do your coil and wick lifespans look like? i feel like im replacing both too often

Get an ohm reader if you like the current shape and form of your face. It's also not a bad idea if you have a B&M nearby that will sell kanthal by the foot so you can try different builds out. 28 gauge is usually a hot vape on low ohm builds because it has more resistance. My preferred is 24 gauge macro coils, about a 3 or 3.4 mm screwdriver to wrap around. When you build low, you need a lot of wick to keep your coils wet or you will start getting dry hits pretty fast and your cotton will get scorched and taste nasty. Make sure the batteries you are using are authentic and at least 20A. With a 20A battery you can safely vape at around .25. If you wanna vape lower than that make SURE you get authentic Sony VTC4's as they are the only Battery still available rated at 30A. Do some reading on ohms law, it's a bit confusing but get the basic formulas down to memory at least, that way you know how many watts you're getting with you're current build. The most basic formula to make sure you're vaping safely for your battery is Voltage(4.2 on most freshly charged batteries) divided by Resistance(ohms) = Amps. V/R=A. For example I have a mech with a VTC4. I have a 24G dual coil 5 wrap around a 3.0mm screwdriver. Ohm reader says .27ohms. So 4.2/.27=15.55A I'm very well within that batteries limit. If I want to know how many watts it's vaping at just multiply your Amps times your volts and you get your answer. AxV=W so my current build(.27) is vaping at 65.3Watts. It gets really easy once you figure out ohms law, to guess at a coils resistance I just use steam engine

Yeah that depends on personal preference. Play with a few different things. I've come to enjoy custard type juices at lower builds, about .18-.25 it gives a more dense hot flavorful vape. Frutier type juices are better to me at higher builds between .5-.8 they give a more crisp distinct vape. Of course taste is subjective and everybody has different preferences.
Charge your battery as soon as you notice drop off in power if possible they will last longer an just be as safe as possible happy vaping.

I wrap with everything from 28ga to 20ga. It really depends on what you are trying to get out of the build. More flavor, smaller wire and higher resistance. More clouds, larger wire and lower resistance. 26ga dual coils with 6 wraps on a 2.5 mm mandrel will give you a good balance of both. More towards the flavor end, maybe. But if you have an ohm meter, use it. If you don't, use steam engine or something like it to get a decent estimation of the resistance of your builds, and make sure your mod and battery can safely handle it.

i love your posts and i am 'bumping it up',, i think it should be a cheat sheet that all newbies (dry wicks like myself) should read and understand early on,, like in first few days and immediately if they decide to touch an atty. i reformatted your words,, its a thing i do to force myself to absorb the words exactly as intended. (if that makes sense)-- i wish i had read this months ago,, i know this stuff now,, but it was via 'bits and pieces' form of education.--thanks
