I don't have that issue with japanese cotton - are you taking off the two outside layers? If so, try rayon - absolutely no break in with that to my taste.
Yes I am just using the inner material. I'd guess that all Japanese cotton is not the same - big surprise. The Shiseido has a lot of small dust particles or fibers that come off once you peel off the outer layers. Time to find something new...

Do you find any difference in flavour between the various materials?

Oh Yes. The organic cotton takes a while to get the "wet t-shirt" taste out of it. The japaneese cotton is better as far as taste and may be a favorite for many super tasteraffectionados.

The rayon seems to give me a Neutral taste. In other words "No taste" which to me makes the juice taste better. I could detect more flavor when I started Vaping with Japaneese cotton as well as Rayon.

Rayon is king of wicking to me and being a tank user, that is of great importance. I use 80% VG or more which is why Rayon was a good fit for me. The Con about rayon is that dry hits tastes worst out of the three, so I try to rareley have dry hits.

Ahh...Shinyitis. Wonderful disease. But that is not my problem. My problem is that I live at an elevation of 235' and work at an elevation of 2500'. I take a bus to work and can't vape my way up the ridge to relieve the pressure. I've tried many tanks.

The Orchid V2: This tank worked really well for the first month, no leaks, so I bought another one. Well, they both eventually began leaking and now leak without the pressure change. So I cleaned them up and put them away to deal with another day.

The Orchid V4: Same problem as with the V2, but smaller quantities of juice leaking.

The Kayfun Lite Plus V2 Authentic: Very little leakage on trip up the hill, but the airflow is so restricted it is no fun to vape.

The Aqua 2: Very little leakage once you learn how to wick it. Good airflow and excellent flavor. This device has become a dedicated to a single juice that has been an everyday vape from the time I tasted it. The only drawback is that you have to use a syringe to fill it. I use the plastic tank that has the capacity to not need filling while out and about.

The Atlantis, The Subtank, and the Billow, These three tanks also can't handle the elevation change. While they leak, it is not in tank draining amounts.

So I've settled on the Aqua, The Atlantis, The Subtank, and the Billow to take out and up to work. I put them in plastic bags for the ride. All give an excellent vape. There are new tanks out there I haven't tried, but I'm hoping I don't have to replace any of these four in the near future.

These are just my experiences with tanks and may not apply to you.

Oh, and not having a flavor to complete a recipe is a proud tradition in DIYland. It gives up an excuse to place an order.

I'm editing this because I forgot about one more tank I have. It's a Tobeco produced KayFun V4 clone. This one works as well as the 4 I use everyday and I would carry it up to work more if only the tank weren't so small. For such a heavy device, you would think it would hold more juice. But it doesn't. The learning curve is a bit steep for this device as well. I usually leave it at home.
Maybe you need to try a genny (no vacuum). The BF-99 is one of my favorite atties. Or maybe a Squape R or a Heron.

I have thought about that, and I should look in to them. I just haven't yet. Thanks for the names, it is almost as if some people won't admit to using them. I've heard about leaking issues and difficulties building them, but that is just hearsay as far as I'm concerned.

I looked up the three you mentioned and I have some questions about your favorite, the BF-99. How is the draw? I lung hit and like an easy/loose airflow. In the material I read on the original, it says there is no leakage whatsoever. Do you find that that is the case? Is yours an authentic or clone, and by whom. It is an interesting atty.

To get rid of that new wick taste, put some plain vg on it and burn it while it's open air. Soak it good and don't let it dry. Good use for any Walmart vg you have sitting around. Also a good thing to do with new heads for a Nautilus to get rid of that nasty peppery taste.

I promise Ill get canadian shipping worked out today. its easier to smuggle grapes from Antarctica lol, at least getting it all figured out to work with the site. could always do it manual. anyways any order outside the US can use the code "diyinternational" for 15% off specialty flavors. Its a standing code with no expiration dates or limit on use.
Are we there yet?

Bummer. I don't lung hit. haha I don't think I even go mouth-to-lung anymore. Just mouth hits for flavor now, kinda like a snack. :D But there's easy access to the airhole and would be piece of cake to make it bigger. Mine's the clone from FT (too poor for OG stuff) and yes, no leaks. Syringe-fill though, through the hole on top of the negative post, and U-wicks are not much fun - luckily with rayon, I don't have to rewick very often even with all the crazy sweetener I use.

Oh hey, I'm in NorCal too! SF! :)

A Proposal:

Given:
VaporJoe owns this place rick, cot, and tree.
VarorJoe can do with his property as he pleases.
This labeling probably exists to drive up posts.
More posts probably drive up ad revenues.
More profits will help keep this place thriving.
A thriving website keeps users happy.
Happy users continue to post.

Therefore we can draw certain conclusions:
It is good to get more people posting.
Unhappy users do not post.
Unhappy users leave the site. Example: ECF.
It makes economic sense to have happy users.

The problem with the current scheme is that it polarizes the users.

Green label: he/she's a newby, ignore them.
Gold label: he/she's a god. worship them.

Mostly it polarizes the newer users as once you spend some time around here, your own knowledge increases and you don't need a label to know who's who.

Perhaps, I'm all wet and they have statistics that prove an incentive program as it is now really works. Fine, I'm not leaving over a silly label.

In Fact I propose:

1: Allow all users to change their labels once per month.
2: Allow all users to change both the background & color of their label.
3: Hold a monthly contest for the best label. Make different tiers and prizes for the contests, such as:

Tier 1 - 149 posts - A pack of Koga cotton.
Tier 150 - 499 posts - An unregulated mod.
Tier 500 - 1000 posts _ A Regulated mod.
Etc...

This can be set up any way you wish, but I think it should have a bit of randomness in it.

It seems to me that a proposal such as this would both drive up posts and keep users happy without the polarization.

I am sure that there are equally good ways to do the same thing.
Any Ideas?

Nor Cal rules! I'm in Chico.

Thanks for your suggestions even though they won't work for me. It's nice to hear about devices from actual users.

Im guess the system will be changed up a bit. because you are right the post count doesnt really mean anything. I was looking at @Roundhouse profile. says he is a new member lol. even though he a contributing vendor he is consider "new" to the forum. people like me that just post random nonsense are solid gold baby lol. I bet it will change a million times over the years to come :)

Its hard to believe that Ive said "hello" or "use a little Apple pie" or something similar at least 1,500 times. If you get into the completely nonsense threads, you would could be Gold or Platinum in no time. Some could say the higher post counts you have, you just dont have much going on in your life. Not being mean, just thinking out loud.

I'm scared to post.
I'm going to hide under my mixing table and continue mixing flavors until I can pay (not through paypal) for additional "labels".
Lord knows I pay my Doctors for enough "labels" that profit me in life.;)

Ok. I'll post. But only because I've been stuck on 69 posts (total) since Friday. That number is frustrating enough to get over.o_O

Funny, I didn't even notice the labels until you guys started talking about them. In fact, I had to look around pretty hard, just to figure out what you guys were even talking about!:D

I don't really care about the labels or my post count one way or the other. I'm just not usually a very talkative person, but if I feel I have something to add I will. My husband loves this about me :D
Mine had to develop the "selective hearing" mode...to certain words...dinner, nascar, sex

I don't have them on my phone.

I would say I'm more of a "Lurker". I am slowly building my stock of flavors for DIY an have learned a lot from this thread. I dont feel I have the experience yet to contribute much, but I am learning :) Most of my post are either in thanks or to help with hardware I am familiar with.

Received my first order of VT nic yesterday, big difference between it and the NN I was using. Almost no taste at all. Now I did get the NN when they were having issues but they said my lot number didn't have issues. The taste difference was night and day and I will never use anything else now.

Made a batch of Smokey's Sparkle and HICs (I think) banana milkshake w/ vanilla ice cream. Both were good. After 2 tanks of sparkle (cant find the recipe now to link) I found it to be a little to sweet and would probably cut the sweetener out totally next time. But it may be because I substituted sour for sour and tart and tfa Pear for FA. Watermelon dominated and I wasn't able to discern the other flavors, pom, pineapple etc and not sour at all

I'm trying out 2% Banana, 1.5% Vienna, 1.5% Vanilla Tahiti.... it's like a milkshake made with French vanilla ice cream and fresh bananas.
Another nice vape, found the strength to be just right, still on first tank about halfway through the banana seems to have drifted to the background

it so fast and taste way better than any other drippers out there. but like you say looks silly as hell because a drip tip will not fit on it. I guess you could modify one with a piece of rubber tube or someting but I just put the chimney and balance that top cap with the drip tip on it and fire it up. if its good I build the rest of the tank and fill it with juice , if not I can re wick it in 15 seconds
I just put the whole chimney back on. Take a few hits out of that little hole, if it's good, put it all back together and fill her up. If it's bad, rewick and try again. Feels a little silly but it does the job for tasting.

Since you all were discussing equipment I thought I would mention my new RBA which I am happy with so far, the Deringer. It's short, easy to build on and gives me better flavor than the Dark Horse (both clones). I hate the fresh taste of the japanese cotton I have been using and now am using the cotton that came with some Hotwire which gives me no break-in taste at all

What is this about peeling the outer layers off? I just turn it inside out, so the outer layers are tucked inside.

I'm playing with Perique Black, Desert Ship and Dark Vapor. Tried adding some French Vanilla but think I used too much. It changed the profile quite a bit. A touch of Almond seemed to fit right in tho'. Very encouraging. Strongest tobacco I've mixed yet.

I generally peel one of the outer layers off. It's a different consistency, so it's easy to do. If I need a very tiny wick I peel them both off, but generally just peel one off. It's possible that the break-in period is due to the different absorbency rate of those outer layers.

lol mr bill. it just adds more airflow for lung hits, she has a drip tip also with a airflow controller. its really awesome for the price. looks a few bucks cheaper now. the juice well is huge and the posts are up high away from anything so its real easy to build on also.
