looking for an RTA

Well, like the title says, I'm looking into getting an RTA. The tough part is which one. I have an Atlantis and have one coil left and figured it's a perfect time to put that up and use mostly rebuildables. I have a mutation v2, v3, and plume veil clone. So I'm not that new to rdas.
Here is what I would like. Potential to do mouth to lung hits, maybe to replace my nautilus. Handle high vg juices. Consistent wicking, I have seen the Lemo 2 has been having issues with high vg juices. And finally, the ability to do single coil. With a deck that small I would prefer that, I am a single coil type of guy and mostly do single parallel builds on my drippers.

Any and all input and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I literally JUST got my Orchid V2 up and running. It came with a crappy glass nano kit. Swapped it out for a Kayfun bell cap and it's an absolutely joy to vape. Orchid's got my vote. Perfect airflow for lung hits and great flavor.

For a rebuildable tank that is designed for and works best with single coils and mouth to lung hitting, I'm a big fan of a Kayfun. I have other lung hitting devices, but for mtl hits I've found my kayfun is about perfect. Affordable, easy to find and there's a ridiculous number of accessories available for them. Happy hunting.

I just gor t a kayfun and love it so far. It coukd use more air adjustment and a larger bore drip tip. But other than that is hits well not dry hit issues yet and is easy to build. My favorite has to be the kanger subtank with the mini rba, this turns it into a rta.

The Kayfun v4 is awesome (I got one last week) and the Kanger Subtanks come with a rebuildable atty as well..

I like my subtank mini well enough, but with the air flow on the smallest setting it's still to open to get decent mtl hits for me. It definately seems designed to be a lung hitter.

Authentic kayfuns are a little to rich for my blood. The tobeco clone looks good. I guess what I am looking for is one I can throw a 28g build on for an easy, flavorful mtl hits. Or lung hits with not to much vapor. Don't want to cloud up my new car.

Nice Jeep!

Yeah, the Kayfuns are expensive. I think I paid $180 for mine.. It does rock though!

If you've used Kayfuns before then you know they are super easy to build and the flavor is outstanding..

Mine is a well mad3 kayfun clone. If you are a mouth to lung smoker then the kayfun will work great for what you are lookiing for.

Authentic Kayfun 3.1's and Kayfun lites aren't nearly as expensive and there are clones of every model that perform as well as the authentics. My Ehpro Kayfun 3.1 is made very well.

Thanks to everyone who commented. I went with a Russian 91. So far I'm loving it and it looks amazing on my sigelei 50w.

Nice good choice for what you wanted. Imo the 3.1 is better than the V4 due to way less parts, simple is better.

After a day of use I like it. But it just tastes burnt. I can have the same flavor in my nautilus mine and the flavor is great. I just did a quick dry burn/pulse and rewicked it. Still tastes burnt. Ideas?

I guess it may be the flavor since I have only tried 1 flavor in it. Just odd that I don't taste that in my nautilus. So once this tank is gone I'll rebuild and clean it again.

I had a hell of a time getting my lemos to wick properly after I made the switch to higher VG juices. I ended up selling both and getting a Kanger Subtank Mini. The RBA deck works and is easy to build on, but I still find myself preferring the premade coil design better (Huge juice channels). I rebuild those instead since I don't want to have to spend $3-$4 per coil.

The RBA is a nice backup, but I haven't used it in over a month as rebuilding has proven so easy. I recommend a Subtank, then go on Fasttech, buy some clone coils for cheap and strip them down for the housing to coil/wick yourself. Takes me the same amount of time that my Lemo did but performs way better. Better wicking, better airflow options (at least compared to the Lemo Drop. Maybe not the Lemo 2) and cheap as hell. I wish I waited a month to get one. The newly released Kanger Subtank/Mod starter kit costs 10 more than I could have gotten a spare mod to keep in on standby

What's the build you're using and what watts you running it at?
1.5 ohm running at 11.5-12 watts. Sitting at 4.2 volts. Same settings I run my nautilus at but that has a slightly higher resistance.

I'm going to give it s good cleaning tomorrow the rebuild it.

I discovered that with my V1 Lemo Drop (0.27 ohm build with Ni200) that if I restrict the airflow a bit and then start sucking before I push the fire button, then there will be plenty of juice in my wick. I let off of the fire button just after I feel a warm blast of vape. Before I discovered this, I would experience an occasional burnt hit. Probably the same with your Russian.

That's the odd thing. No dry hit/flavor. The initial hit taste burnt. Like burnt cotton. I'm starting to think its the juice. I'm starting to get that slight burnt taste with the nautilus.

Maybe if your juice is high VG. I run 85VG/15PG or 90VG/10PG. So, like I said, I prime it before I hit the fire button.

If your initial hit tastes burnt. it's a wicking issue.

I'll try even less wick. Thank you. I prime it and let it sit for about a half hour after filling after rewicking. Let everything move where it wants to.
I watched a few videos and what everyone seemed to do is to get the liquid wet and stick it to the sides. So that's what I did

The only reason I want to say it's the juice is because the coil was all gunked up after a day of use but the wicking was fine, just a slight hint of yellow no burnt spots or anything. Idk, rta's are a different monster than rda's.

A resistance reading tells me nothing. Gauge, diameter and wraps does. What's the build specs? Bet you a dollar your gauge is too high and the diameter is too small.

You need to pancake wick it and you will have no dry burnt hits. I have ran 4 full tanks threw my kayfun and not one dry hit at 23-25 watts on a 1.1ohm coil.

I gave you what you asked for, so no need to get testy. But I'll take a dollar now. 28g tried a 2mm and 2.5mm ID. 7/8 wraps. Wrapped 8 then unwrapped half for the leads.

Wow. I ask for build info, you give me a meaningless number, I then ask for the specific information that is required to help you sort your build and its performance and somehow I'm an asshole? I vape juice that is over 80% vg in my kayfun (same thing as a russian) every day. It took awhile to figure out what works and what doesn't, but now I've got it sorted pretty well and have something to offer those still trying to get theirs performing well. Gauge, diameter and coil length (wrap count) dramatically affect how well this device wicks and performs in general. Build it wrong and it won't work. Fill it wrong and it won't work. Wick it wrong and it won't work. Yours isn't working which means you're doing it wrong. Telling me a meaningless number that can be achieved by using a huge number of combinations of wire gauges and coil geometrys doesn't give me the information needed to help figure out what it is that you're doing wrong. I wasn't being testy, I was being direct and to the point while trying to help. When I started this reply I felt like telling you to go figure it out yourself, but instead I'll consider your reply a misunderstanding and continue to try and help.

First, make sure you're not overfilling it. A kayfun/russian won't hardly wick at all if it's too full. After filling, cover the air intake with your finger and suck on the drip tip kinda hard for just a second. That will set the pressure in the tank just right. 28g seems to work about the best with these so you're good there. For thick juice you really have to use a large diameter coil in this atty. I use a 7/64" (2.7mm) drill bit or larger to wrap on. Anything smaller just can't keep up with thick juice. I actually prefer and am currently using a 1/8" (3.1mm) bit. The coil should be close to the same width as the air hole in the deck. The number of wraps you're using is probably good. Other than that you've got the wicking and juice channels. The channels on some benefit from being opened up a little with a dremel. Some times the lower chimney sleeve benefits from having the bottom, inside corner smoothed out some. These atty's can work well with thick juice, but the machining and finishing of your particular piece along with how you set it up both really affect how it performs.

While you are experimenting try my favorite set up for my R91's, a vertical coil, 29 ga, 6 wraps, spaced, 1.57mm, same diameter as the air hole in your base with degummed hemp fiber. cotton might work also but i have never used it. one thing is with what ever coil or wick you use is to make sure you have your wick it in the wells next to the coil but not blocking the small area where the channels feed the juice. Blocking those feed points prevents the juice from feeding properly.

Good Luck!!!

Made a 6 wrap 3mm ID 28g coil. Ohms out to 1.4. Did the whole pancake wicking method. Was pretty happy with how this one hits, but the flavor is mute. I have the deck figured out along with the wicking but like I said the flavor is just not there. My nautilus seems to have been flavor.

Also, I am running it at 13 watts which is a high 4.3 volts.
