I've had a DNA 30 clone for under a week now but have been following different threads since the beginning of the pre-orders. There's so much subjective data out there about these clones I'm just curious of the overall satisfaction those that have purchased the clones have had. If you would so kindly fill out this quick survey I would greatly appreciate it. Please only do so if you have first hand experience with these boxes. I'm new to forms so hopefully it will work as I hope :) Thanks in advance for your contributions.

If you just want to follow the progress of this survey give this a try.

You should have left a comment box at the end.

I have been using the Hana Mod clone from Focal with great success.

It is very, very well built and I have been using it daily.

The only flaw that I have been able to find is that the coil resistance reads + 0.3 ohms over the actual resistance of the coil.

And it is a constant 0.3 overage so in my mind it still serves its purpose providing the user can deduct 0.3 ohms from the display without using a calculator (I use my fingers).

I will be writing a review of it shortly and just to give you a hint, I would recommend it without question to anyone wanting a really nice 30 watt mod for less than $60 delivered with a great warranty.

Maybe he's just doing quantitative research to crunch the numbers.

Yes you're right about the ohms Unc. It lost a mark for that. Looking forward to your review.

I thought about adding a comment section however I've read most reviews and it just seems to depend on the person how happy or unhappy they are and what type of problems they had. For example mine reads almost identical to my Evolv DNA 30 on Ω where yours is .3Ω off. I figure the overall satisfaction check boxes and connection or electronic problem questions will be adequate for what I'm looking for. I will have a cheap oscope arriving sometime this week at which point I'll try to do a side by side comparison of the Evolv DNA 30 and the clone I have. Thanks for your input.

I have both of Evolv's 20 and 30 DNAs and I find no difference between the Fasttech DNA and Evolvs other than sleep mode. I think the ft DNA is such a good board for the money.

Yep, it does lose a mark for that.

And I would be seriously pissed if I had paid $250 for a Hana Mod (or anything else in that price range) that had the same quirk.

But at the end of my vaping day, what I really want is a mod that will give me a tasty vape. Allow me to vary the wattage up and down to find the best setting for the topper and the liquid I am using and does not catch fire or die after a day or two. That if it works at all when you get the sucker!

All of that being said, my "Keeper" is telling me it is time for my meds now and to put on my "Onesy" for the night :p

We'll I'll just say before you go, the most reliable mod I have atm and still my favourite having thought about it (other than the mini cana) is my Seven. I think it's better than the cana. Goodnight :)

I agree, I only have 1 DNA 30 that I built with dual 18650's and it's way more power than I can see ever needing. I usually run between 16-22.5 watts. I can take the atty off of it and put on my clone and tell no difference at all. And the same for me on sleep mode, on the clone it takes 2.5-3 seconds before I can vape it coming out of sleep but on the Evolv it seems about 1.5 seconds. That's the only difference I can tell

Still here,

I have barricaded myself in the office so she can't get at me.

Just so you know, not at all mad, just being busy being a smartass:p

And being + 0.3 ohms does indeed need to be taken into consideration but I really do like this little mod.

And I would still recommend it for the price.:D

submitted one for each: Broken Hotcig fasttech one, half DOA, sucked 3 hours of my life away trying to get it to work.
Also submitted for my Cana logoless clone from elev8, works amazing out of the box!

I am not sure if I own one or not. My bank statement says I do. I remember using one for about 12 hours. USPS delivered one to my address. Then shipped it to another address far, far away. Wonder if I can answer 1/2 the survey.

Unfortunately someone decided to try to skew the numbers by submitting data numerous times. I was hopeful that we had more mature individuals that were as interested in this data as I. Due to this until I can figure out a way to verify each submission I have taken the form offline.

At the point this occurred about 80% of the poll was positive results and about 20% was negative. With the small sample it's really hard to take much from the numbers sorry.

I got mine from the Vapor Joe recommended vendor which I believe was Mountain Baker Vapor and so far love it. A little bulkier than the MVP I came from, tough to carry in my jeans pocket, other than that no complaints. I'm a fairly heavy vapor and don't have any trouble getting 16 plus hours out of an overnight charge. My wife doesn't like the sound of the "clicky" button, but she'll get over it soon, maybe. All in all, very satisfied!

Ah yeah, the clicky button sound. I notice people in shops always look when I'm switching it on or off.

I had one of these devices from elev8 until this afternoon. I was in the car went to take a vape, and some smoke came pouring out of the USB port and battery vent hole. Not having a screwdriver on me I quickly hit the button for the window and removed my atty, and tossed the thing in the middle of the street. I was thinking it was a battery going runaway, the battery incidentally was a sony vtc4 charged around 3.88v(that's what my meter said when I tested it after getting home.) Here's the mess as it stands now:
emp.jpg emp_2.jpg The black stuff on the cover I'm assuming is either some of the screen or wire insulation. The screen as you can see in the second image is completely melted. The battery though, I'm not sure if I should use it or not, it tests fine with my meter, I doubt I'll put it into another device though, seems too risky.
Elev8 has responded to my email and is expecting it back for replacement.

Edit: Before this incident, I had been using the device daily since it arrived around July 14th.

I submitted twice before. One unit was doa and the other was perfect. I hope that didn't screw you up. If so, accept my apology.

No that wasn't the problem. The submissions went from a few per hour to one ever few seconds with the exact same answers. Someone was obviously just skewing the numbers.

That sucks, that's part of the info I was hoping to gather. Some have had no problems at all while others have had failures after they had them for awhile. I've been concerned with mine but I should receive the resettable fuses i ordered tomorrow so they'll go in pronto. That will make me feel a bit safer. Good luck with your replacement. Maybe have them upgrade you to the IPV2 for your trouble

I may just do that, at any rate, I felt I should at least reply to the thread even if I couldn't do the survey you were trying to conduct. I really liked the mod, it worked perfectly, until this afternoon. Still unsure if the battery was the problem, I doubt it though, batt seems fine, but you never can be too careful about these things. I'll bag it up and take it to the recycling place tomorrow though to be safe.

I had that very incident myself. Same manufacturer, different company. Was using it the third day I had it. Then it started reading check atomizer non stop. So I took off the tank and set it aside. Couple minutes later, the smell was the first thing I noticed. The smoke was definitely the next. My display melted from the inside. Battery seemed fine but I threw it in a salt bath for safety. Waiting on a replacement.WIN_20140701_091918.JPG

I have a what I believe to be a Cloupour(SP?) version, and it has been great. I also have one of the original clones with the Hana logo on it that has also been fine. They have a few differences. On the clone with the Hana logo on it, it won't let me fire below .5-ish, there is no lock wattage and it won't fire until the Evolv logo disappears. On the logo-less version the box itself is much thicker and has none of the issues mentioned above. It will fire a .3 happily, there is no delay after it goes in to sleep mode, it has lockable wattage, the sleep delay is much longer and the display seems to be brighter and has more pixels if you will. Both vape fine, but the non logo version is much better IMO.

I have a first wave Cloupor from 101. Resistance error is 10% or so low, not a constant number but one that increases along with the resistance. A 1 ohm build reads .9, 1.5 reads 1.3, 2.7 reads 2.4 etc.. Coming out of sleep mode sometimes requires 2 clicks if it recently went to sleep but it fires first time after an overnight sleep. I also experienced the no screen response issue i.e. it would fire but no screen even when locking and unlocking. That was resolved by removing the battery for 48 hrs. Overnight didn't do it. The chip holds memory for a long time. No repeat since that one instance that I precipitated by removing and reinserting the battery several times in a row testing a battery removal strap. The display does occasionally light up on it's own. For all of that it performs well. I do wish I had investigated more before pulling the trigger as the downside to this and the DNA30 for me is the lack of buck circuitry to complement the boost circuit.

Well if anyone is interested in looking I purchased a cheap oscope off Ebay did some side by side tests with a clone and a true Evolv DNA 30. Probably the most interesting piece of information I believe I see is what appears to be voltage regulation on the clone in what I thought was supposed to be unregulated. Perhaps someone with more smarts than me can explain this. Other than that I learned that my clone does in fact fail to read resistance correctly at about 1.8Ω adding about .4. I really wasn't aware of that as I typically run around 1Ω. The spreadsheet with outputs and the signal traces can be seen below. I did the tests at .75, 1, 1.5, 2 & 2.7Ω because that's what my local electronic store had on hand. if you have problems viewing let me know.

I started getting the "check atomizer" message on one also. It began happening intermittently and then it was constant. Firstly it was reading the ohms wrong. It would jump all over the place every time I pressed the button, going as high as 6 - 7ohms. I thought maybe taking the battery out for 24hrs might clear the memory. But no. So I took the board out and cleaned up the wires. It fired fine but the screens gone. Kaput

Wow, I am really sorry to hear about the issues so many of us seem to be having with what promised to be such a wonderful clone.

Just to add a bit of fuel to the fire.............

The one that I have came from Focalecig and I have had the pleasure of corresponding with Doris about it.

They had purchased a batch of them from their supplier and sent them back when they did not match the pictures they had been given so obviously they have some quality control on their end.

But she also told me that their supplier was not forthcoming about the name of the actual manufacturer. Kind of here it is, this is what it does and it is a bargain for this price.

Mine works great and I have been using it non stop for over 3 weeks now.

The only flaw is that the resistance reading is off by a constant +0.3 ohms. That I can deal with knowing the margin of error as a constant.

My guess is that there are at least 3 different manufactures making this clone.

While I am at it, when mine wakes up from going to sleep in about 60 seconds, this is what I see on the display.

EVOLV

What do your displays show?

And no, I don't think it is an actual DNA chip hiding in there:rolleyes:

Mine all say the same. Evolv DNA. even the boards bought separately say that too. I've only ever had a problem with one. And my mini cana is excellent!!

Perhaps the construction?

Or the way the wires are connected to the board as in your other thread?

Pretty sure he's talking about tossing the battery not the box as he indicated elev8 was expecting it returned for replacement.

Got Ya' Thought he was going to throw the whole mod away. That would be a shame. I saw a rich kid throw a brand new Kodak camera away because he bought the wrong film & it would not fit. I still have the camera. :)

Bought my Cana Mod from WetVapes on May 30th. I babied it and rarely ever went above 14watts and never under 1.7ohms. Without warning, my clone smoked and only shows "Check Atomizer" after 2 months and 3 days.

WetVapes is shipping out a new mod to replace mine! (90 day warranty)

I received my Fasttech box/parts and Evolve DNA30d & USB boards should arrive on Monday. Last night I drilled/threaded and installed a new Fat Daddy 510 connector (perfectly straight).

Now I expect to have my Evolve DNA mod running before my WetVapes replacement arrives.

Yeah, sorry for the confusion there, the battery has been recycled, the box is probably somewhere in the midwest today on it's way back to elev8 in Brooklyn. Even if they didn't want to replace it I'd still keep the box and rip everything out and DIY another mod with authentic board, and better wiring I'm sure.

My Hanna Modz labelled clone had an intermittent fault where the screen would black out. It would randomly return. It was supposedly a KSD chip/ manufacture. The replacement should arrive tomorrow. So far I am out $ for return shipping.
It still worked when the screen went out, just could not see the settings. I was a great little device apart from the fault and I really hope the replacement works ok.
It said Evolve DNA on the screen too after wake up/ It woke up pretty swiftly upon pushing the button.
It too would sometimes light up the display while just sitting there.

I got one of the first ones from Wet Vapes a few months ago now. It,s a first gen and a little quirky. It has bin working fine for me :)
The Finnish is not that durable and mine is all scratched, No big deal to me. I bring it to work everyday, I find the battery life is way better than a real DNA30 mod I also bring to work everyday (backup) I feel bad for those who have had so many issues. Just not the case for me, 79.99 well spent here :)

My cloupor from angelcigs is doing great.it fires every thing i put on it with no delay after it goes to sleep, ohm reader dead on, smaller positive pin, everything sits flush and straight. Efest purple 2500 35a battery lasts about 8 to 9 hours pushing a 1.8 ohm kayfun at 15.5 wats.
This is my favorite device of the 20 or so I have.

Got my replacement today. Horrible rattle when I got it, opened it up, there is no plastic window over the electronics compartment and no tamper proof seals either, just a loose broken looking piece of black plastic over it. The compartment has huge globs of hot glue in it. Did not open this section of the original, the glue may be normal, but he last one looked really tidy through the window and had holographic stickers sealing it. This looks like a repair of refurb. Has a green battery, don't know what sort, but the original had been upgraded with a genuine (Samsung I think I was told )which was purple/ pink in colour. I just seem to have bad luck with buying stuff. And for the record, I did not get the cheapest I found, it was nearly twice the cost I could have imported one for, from a seller who vouched for it).
The seller tells me this is a more functional 2nd batch, that the other was from the 3rd batch which looked better but were having chip and screen probs. Says this will work much better.

They do vary from batch to batch. Not all of them have a cover over the electronics. The most important thing is if it works and whether the buttons are responsive. Hot glue does tend to make a mod look messy. I check the box first ensuring all the wiring is safe. The hot glue will be in big blobs over those tactile switch connections. It'll also help ensure there are no shorts and give an added layer of protection from a possible solder failure. I use the snips to trim the hot glue if it looks messy or stringy.

Uhmm... I'm getting a "Check Atomizer" on mine when I top it with a Mega AeroTank - works fine when using a Nautilus. Attach the Mega on to an MVP 2 and it works fine. Nautilus works on the Hana Modz, as well as an iClear 30s. The Mega was working just spiffy prior to me changing coils and juice. Any ideas...?
