My name is Tony.
I have just bought the following setup

1 x AUTHENTIC Bandit Stainless Steel Mod by ISM Vapes

http://www.vaporkings.com/AUTHENTIC-Bandit-Stainless-Steel-Mod-by-ISM-Vapes-p/ism-bandit.htm

2 x BATTERY-18650-RED-1600 AW Orange 18650 3.7v 1600mAh LiMN rechargeable battery

1 x CHARGER-XTAR-VC2PLUS XTAR VC2 Plus Master Charger

1 x SUBTANK-PLUS-KIT Kanger SubTank PLUS Kit

5 x SUBTANK-COIL-0.5 Kanger SubTank Atomizer Coil - 0.5 ohms

Before this I had a vision spinner with a pro tank... Lol. I'm hoping that someone, anyone, could advise me as to wether or not this is a safe setup. Like I've heard that this stuff can be dangerous and I have NO idea how to check wether or not this set up is dangerous or safe. I use all of this together as one kit. Thanks.

Love vaping and look forward to being a member of this forum and getting to know people here.

Good kit, it seems - the AW batteries aren't frequently used these days, but from what I can find it appears the ones you bought are good to 24 amps, which should be within the safe range you'll be drawing with a 0.5 ohm coil. The mod isn't a hybrid, so while it isn't going to give the best performance with a tank (most folks pair sub-tanks with regulated devices these days) it should be safe. Solid choice on the charger.

In the future, legit manufacturer batteries from Samsung, Sony, or LG are available with better ratings at a price point likely a lot lower than you paid for the AWs.

Other than spending way to much on the mod and going cheap on the batteries.

I tried to use the " RDA " set up on the tank I got but the cotton it came with kept ripping. Is there a guide of some nature for uninformed / uneducated noobs such as myself to help me more understand how to pick an appropriate tank to go with this mod? It seems the abbreviation "RDA" is used to categorize such a tank as I might be looking for, though God help me as I can't seem to appreciate or understand the nature of how to use or even understand this "RDA."

77$ seemed ok to me. Though you probably have a better idea, I'm fine with it and at peace with the price. Maybe when I am more experienced I will look back and laugh at myself, though after searching the internet it seems this mod is priced at like 150$ everywhere else. This website has a deal, and I picked out a mod that was within my price range and looked like it would last a while without breaking. I'm happy with its performance, I just want to make sure it's safe and also secondly I hope to get the most out of it.

Also THANKS FOR REPLYING. I'm stoked to find such a helpful and informative community!

Thanks. Found this one. Great info.

Edit

I tried using the ohms law calculator I just don't know how to find the voltage watts or power.

You will have to have a device that will tell you the resistance of your coil on your build (in this case you are using pre-built coils but I personally don't trust anything until I can confirm it), Then you will put in 4.2 volts and tell it to calculate. Then it will give you the watts and amps you are using. The amps are what you have to watch out for if you exceed the limits on your batteries then it becomes dangerous.

RDA - Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer. There's no tank, the atty only holds a few drops of liquid and you re-wet the wicks every half-dozen hits or so.

@CgS_Drone has some good links, also check out my "sick clouds bro" thread that's stickied at the top of the "Help I have Questions" sub - lots of beginner info there, including links to more stuff on coil building, wicking, choosing devices, batteries, etc...

Thank you, you are a fine community for having the patience to explain all of these things which are likely very basic and obvious to you, therefore are probably repeated over and over to users such as myself. To me though, these are new and confusing, so you have done me a great service which I greatly appreciate. Thanks.

Seriously, read my other thread - it should cover the next handful of questions you'll come up with, and I've tried to put together as comprehensive a guide as I can - yes, we do go through this a bit, but we're generally good sports unless you're really doing something dumb and/or dangerous. Let us know if you have any more questions after doing a bit of reading.

Oh, and welcome to the Underground!

Welcome to the VU you came to the right place for info. The only thing I would add is with a mech mod you have no way to track the battery voltage and if you draw them down too far it will damage them. When you notice the quality of the vape drop off it's time to change the battery. A cheap meter from Harbor Freight can be your best friend. As others have said when it comes to batteries Sony, Samsung and LG.

Thanks bro, i bought two batteries and a charger that can charge two at a time. The charger has a meter which tells me how low the battery is so I've been keeping one charged, using the other, then the next day switching the charged one in and charging the one I take out. Then repeat.

It's almost shocking how patient everyone is here. I'm on various skill/trade forums, and it's sad how whiny some people get about beginner/repeated questions. Then again, vaping is relatively new in the grand scheme of things, and morphs a lot more often than, say, plumbing. It's impossible to convince some 80-year-old fart that he can simply ignore the billionth question on leaky toilets and remain on his pet thread where he rants about Shark Bites.

(And NEVER join a clock repair forum.)

"Use the search function, noob!" - at least a third of the posts on some car forums I've been a part of. Your question was already asked back in 2011 and subsequently answered on page 48,post 241 of a thread primarily concerned with an entirely different subject.

Ya, I have been on several of those forums that are like that. Or the forums where they will say "If you don't know that answer your shouldn't be here and should go learn before posting". You have to scratch your head and wonder why would you even be on the forum in the first place if not to learn. There are elitists that think they have to knock a person down to feel better about themselves, they find my ignore list real fast.

Rashole, I haven't really found many that will not take the time on this forum to help a new vaper out, I know I didn't figure all this stuff out on my own and this forum has been great giving me good info so passing it along is part of the deal in my opinion.

Thanks guys, another question. Should I take the time and get comfortable with the tank I already have? It's a kangertech sub tank plus. It has an RDA attachment but I use the .5 ohm coil that's not RDA, it's just a cube coil which I ordered five of that came with my entire package. I tried using the RDA attachment but I just didn't get it, also it's very small. I'm thinking of trying again once I use the remainder of these .5 ohm cube coils, but when I look at the RDA attachment it seems much different from standard other RDAs I've looked up online.

Here's the RDA that is made by ism. Ism is the same company who makes the bandit mech mod I'm using. Would it be better for me to cough up the dough for something like this? Or is this far too complicated, and would I be better off sticking with my SUBTANK RDA attachment until I'm a bit more familiar with everything? Thoughts?

Here's the ism RDA link.

Others may disagree, but IMHO and RDA is an RDA when it comes to building on them. Yes there is different ways to build on them but in the end you are doing the same thing. The only thing that I REALLY recommend is getting an ohm reader so you are safe. Again I am not familiar with your batteries and there limits. When using say 20 amp batteries and using the ohms law calculator you really don't want to push the batteries to 20 amps, you want to leave a little safety margin.

Not saying to buy this one but I recommend you get a Ohm meter of this style since it is about the easiest of them to use.

It's a pretty nice RDA. But as a beginner, you don't have to use Authentics or even use expensive RDA's. Coil building is difficult for a newb, but everyone can pick up the skill fast enough.

The BIGGEST and most IMPORTANT thing is safety. Learn more before you go into building coils on an RDA. Please.

Real-world example of why you can't be too careful.

I'm messing around with new coil types, and don't have an ohm reader. Didn't want to use my wife's regulated mod as the only reader, so we scheduled yesterday as vape shop day, and I built coils there.

Two of those coils were supposed to ohm out at 1 each. They ended up at .7. Two other coils were supposed to ohm out at .8 each, and I build them on the wrong diameter. Those were .4 each.

Also worth noting that one of the shop's cheaper ohm readers is off a LOT. My .2 dual RDA clocked in at .38.

First off, that RBA head with the Kanger Subtank is indeed a bit different and rather small for a beginner to learn on - that said, I wouldn't wait until you're completely out of coils to try, if you're going to try. Having no way to vape and flying by the seat of your pants attempting a first build is a recipe for trouble.

That RDA you linked to seems like a decent one to build on, but it's probably ten times the cost of anything I've ever used, and I've got some that vape just great.

The most important thing, as you've already been told, is that YOU NEED TO HAVE A MEANS OF CHECKING THE RESISTANCE OF YOUR BUILD BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO USE IT. Sorry to yell, but I'm not really sorry when it comes to this. USA Ohm Meters are considered the gold standard and you can get one of their cheaper models for about $25, or you can get a decent Chinese model (though these are certainly more error-prone) for about $15.

It would be nice if they added a little warning thing to the pages that beginners should buy this ohm checker lol. I'd totally have just added it to my kit cart on the website and bought it along with my other purchases. Oh well. Live and learn. Are there specific "good" brands I should look for, or rather, are there brands I should look out for? Talking about ohm power watt checker ma-thingys.

OK, this is kind of tricky to answer. I have seen people talk about just about everyone of them out there and some being off. I have two eleafs and they read fine (I used a multimeter to test against them).

Dave's suggestion isn't for any ohm meter made in the U.S... it's actually for USA Ohm Meters, the company.

Maybe someone else can chime in to supplement my ramblings here...
There are a bunch of companies that buy the same cheap ohm meters from China and put their name on them. It happens to a lot of products, actually; laser pointers being one example. LED blacklight flashlights is another.
[Stating the obvious here]... Sometimes, the companies don't even bother putting their name on the thing and they just resell it. There's a round ohm meter that I've seen on Amazon and on other websites, for up to $25. FastTech had the exact same thing for some stupid-low price... like $5.

I will agree with LostHasher here. The one's I mentioned are easy to find with no name, I used it as an example. I have had good luck with them however others have had bad luck with them. I mainly am trying to point out there are good and bad in about anything out there.

OP, I know this isn't making things easy for you and we are pushing for safety and you are looking for it, good for you on this. If push came to shove I would look into the one's I linked to above since they have had the best reputation that I have seen so far. USAohmmeter

While I'm plugging the USA, I still don't own one - my $10 FT cheapo is still measuring within 0.02-0.04 of my mods with onboard checkers and my multimeter, and I've been using it for about 18 months.

Um could I ask another question? I seriously appreciate the patience of this community. Anyways, I've ran out of my lemon smoke juice stuff in the container it comes in, so I'm unable to keep my tank absolutely full right now. It's about 1/3 full, possibley just short of that, and it seems to be leaking from the air holes. Is this a common thing? I know that I'm supposed to keep it filled because of some type of air pressure dealy majiggy thingy, so I'm guessing that's the reason it's leaking. But it's like... Leaking out the holes. Never had that happen before. It's not much, but it's enough where if I check it after a hour or two I'm kinda like... "Yeah... Ew..." So I wrapped a paper towel around it and I just take it off to vape then replace it, and will do this until I can get to the store tomorrow to buy another container of lemon flavor smoke juice stuff.

Edit:

Shit I just realized this isn't exactly a safety question. But I already wrote and posted all that, so I feel committed now. So I'll just leave it, I guess? Won't happen again tho!

1. We call that stuff "e-liquid."

2. Some tanks don't like to sit around less than half full for long, and do sometimes leak.

3. Try tightening the coil, that's the easiest solution.

4. Store your mod upside down if you're low on liquid and won't be using it for a while.

I don't have a subtanks, but from what I've heard they are prone 'weap', especially with barometric pressure change. The best thing to do is close the afc and keep it upside down when not in use.
Like some have said, the rba base on that thing is really not the easiest to learn on. The RDA link looked like a good one in the pic.
My 0.02cents on the ohm meter is that a way to check resistance is non negotiable. Gonna 2nd Dave that usaohm meters are damn accurate and well worth the asking price. Another option is investing in a good regulated mod. If all you want is the ohm meter that maybe dumb, but if you're considering another mod, that's 2 birds with one stone-just food for thought.

Agree with 99% of this, but even though most of my mods have on-board ohm meters, I still like to use a standalone to test against whatever mod I'm installing a build on - keeps them honest.

Might want to invest in a coil masters kit.. comes with everything needed to pump out some serious coils. Also the firing ohm readers here are AMAZING!

http://www.coil-master.net/

Here's the actual kit comes with ohm reader coil wire, coil jigs, ceramic tweezers, and much more everything needed and then some.

Yes, the Coil-Master. I forgot to mention those ohm checkers - a little more expensive, but being able to build, test, fire, and re-test without uninstalling is cool (common sense says don't do this on your mod in case something is haywire, though). And I'll admit that I'm lazy and use the winding tool to wrap with - not quite as good as doing a tension coil by hand, but way easier...

I use a coil jig for all my simple builds I can tear down and re build an atty with this kit in under 10 mins wich is nice if I'm at a vape shop or comp or just in a hurry.

Haha! Yeah, I clipped piece of a wire coat hanger for my first wrapping tool, and used that until the kuro came out. -was inspired by 'watching mommy dearest'
And of course ransacked my exgirlfrends purse for tweazers and scissors.
I swear I looked like a back alley doctor wrapping coils.

Personally, I think tanks and mechs just don't mix. Subtanks have barely protruding 510 pins. This is a recipe for disaster unless you are using a fuse.

I still have more of my wife's tweezers in my possession than she has in hers...but I found some great jewelry flush-cutters at China Freight for like $4 and picked up a couple pairs of those, so she gets the nail trimmers back.

I use tanks on my mechs occasionally, you just can't use hybrid top mechs but theirs a reason everything is 22mm and that's so it fits a 22mm tube mod.

Hahahaha!!!!!!! That's funny shit!
Don't be true rash there homie. I still prefer the clippers over most of the little wire cutters from electronics kits. Plus it makes me feel like winner knowing she's still missing a pair. :)
