Uwell Crown -No flavor

I am very new to vaping and decided to get something other than my Kangertech starter kit. So I got the Uwell Crown tank after so many rave reviews about the flavor for Christmas. I prime the 0.25 coil (according to the instructions of a youtube video) and let it sit for a few hours. I slap the tank onto my rx200 mod, set it 30 watts, and I start to gradually up the wattage after taking a few short hits.

After the initial "new coil taste" I don't taste anything. I have it set to 85 watts atm, and the taste is almost non-existent. Changed juices and still nothing. I even tried different pg/vg ratio ones as well. Thinking it was "vapor tongue" I stopped vaping completely for an entire day (so very hard to do). The result was the same. Thinking I had defective coils, I bought a 4-pack of 0.25 coils and they seem to perform the same. I would test the juice on my old Kanger, but the tank is broken hence why I got the crown. Do you guys think this is a defective unit? Sorry for the long post, wanted to give all the relevant info.

TLDR: Primed the 0.25 coil, but getting no flavor. Tried switching juices and stopped vaping for a whole day to see if that helped. New pack of coils produce the same result.

That's odd..I get awesome flavor with the .25 at 60-65w vaping 100% VG Johnny Milkman juice..
Have you tried different flavors or tried lowering the power some?

I have seen this. Your Mod is broke. Fires then quits. Screen shows it's firing.

When I keep the button pressed, I can hear it keep firing. Are you sure it is broken?

Do you think its a bad tank then? Or maybe poking some holes in the cotton at the juice channels might help?

Both ends are clean and brand new. I'll give them a cleaning to be sure

edit-I took the coil out and there is some liquid at the bottom of the base where the airflow is. Is that normal?

My only suggestion would be that vapors tongue can last much longer than a day for some people. I can't see how a defective tank would affect flavor, so I'd go with the continued vapors tongue theory!

If you're getting vapor, your tank is working. Are we talking muted flavor, or none at all? Very odd situation, my Crown is hands-down superior to my Subtank...

Pushed a new Bike back to the dealer. I was not happy. My fault, he did tell me to go fill it with gas.

@saddle: I get an ohm reading and it fires everytime. (Accidentally burned the coil by having the button pressed too long lol)
@Amanda: I'll try going a few days without vaping to see if that helps. I still have some nicotine gum left from before.
@OBDave: The flavor is very muted.

Also the liquid at the bottom of the base is condensation?

Could be condensation, could be e-liquid leaking. Condensation seems more likely if it's found at the top.

What kind of flavor are you using? Do you have something drastically different to change to? I know lots of people don't like menthol, but a minty or cinnamon vape can help wake up the taste buds. Also, make sure you're drinking plenty of water - dehydration is common with vaping and a big contributor to vapers' tongue.

Pressing the button too long shouldn't burn the coil. These Crown coils take very careful priming - watch this video for a reliable way to prime the coils:

I run my 0.25 coils between 60 and 70 watts. They are rated to go higher, but with my juice I get the best performance at around these wattages.

@OBDave: I have 4 different flavors that I am rotating. They are all fruit flavors but different fruits.
@AmandaD: This is the video that I followed when I was priming my very first coil. I use this method everytime. It gave a really bad burning taste after 4 secs at 85 watts. Subsequent hits also produced this taste.

Interesting - it shouldn't. Did you try another coil? I've never had a burned coil, and I've been through a large number of them. But I've not taken them up to 85 watts.

Putting my last coil in right now. I'll prime it and not vape for 2 days to see if that helps.

There's a thread on here somewhere about someone with vapor's tongue - it can last weeks for some people, so don't assume it's the Crown if you still can't taste! It would help if you had another topper so you could see this for yourself! The Crown isn't for everyone, but lack of taste isn't one of the issues people report (that I've seen).

1. I don't push my coils to their limits right away. If I'm going to vape a coil at 85 watts, I'll start it at 40 for a couple pulls, then go to 42, 44, etc. It takes me about a tank of break-in before I reach the wattage I'll be using for the duration of the coil's life. Not sure if this helps me avoid burning it out, but I'm sure it doesn't hurt.

2. I suspect you may not be getting enough change in your flavor to alleviate vapers' tongue, if that's indeed your problem. Lots of fluids and a drastic change (not just from one fruit to a similar fruit) may be needed. As @AmandaD says, this can be a weeks-long thing, and it attacks recent quitters particularly bad, so either get some really strong liquid that's completely different from your normal flavor profile or just power through it - no reason to quit vaping because of it, as you might have to quit for quite a long time and if you find cigs again in the meantime you'll be back at square one.

The coil I just burned was a fully broken in coil. I started that one from 30 watts and gradually got up to 85 later that day. I checked the coil and saw that a few of them turned dark black. The cotton was still fresh.

I'll try and find the thread Amanda mentioned about vapor's tongue. I'll try and get a different variety of liquid (maybe dessert or something). I still have about half a tank left of my other juice inside. I can probably "ghetto fix" my old kanger to try and get it to work

Can be frustrating, but I think if you change Tank systems you will be better off.

Do not give up vaping because of a $30 tank.

I have used this tank and to me, just my opinion, I know where you are coming from.
I read the reviews and bought one thinking it would be a great tank and I am not saying it isnt a good tank. Just not for me.
I was not very pleased with flavor, but I did get some flavor out of it unlike you.
Just not what I expected I would get. Certainly not at the level of RDA that I am use to.

I know money can be hard to come by, but try something else. You don't have to vape at 80 watts to be satisfied I can guarantee you that.. Try other things out there. I vape at 25 watts and perfectly happy and get great vapor and flavor to boot..

You might sell that tank and get something else if it isnt working. do not drop more money on heads. I learned the hard way not to do that. When something isnt working get rid of it or in your case, maybe try getting another unit if it is defective.

This may not at all be vapors tongue.. Don't assume from this tank in particular that it is..

Hope you find what you are looking for, If you want flavor galore, go to a RDA and drip. If you just have to have a tank, there are others out there that will give you flavor and you don't need 85 watts to achieve it.

PS If you want to blow clouds you won't get the flavor you want. Not sayin you do, But big vapor, Sometimes, doesn't equate to more flavor or good flavor!

good success!

That tells me, that the juice you're using doesn't like the heat. If you had "burned" the coil head, the cotton would be burned. The black on the coil itself is the burned e-liquid. As with every juice, you need to find the sweet spot for it, in order to get the best vapor and flavor. If you are getting just the hint of burned flavor, decrement the power to the previous setting, 'cause that should be the sweet spot. If you're still getting a hint of burned flavor, decrement the power even further.

Update: Instead of waiting 2 days, I decided to fix my old kanger subtank nano last night. I somehow got it working and put a fresh coil in at the same time as I did the crown with the exact same juice that I have in the crown. After work today, I decided to try both and the flavor in the kanger subtank nano is MUCH better than in the crown. Granted, I still haven't "broken" in the new crown coil completely as I am still in the process of puffing and gradually upping the wattage (which I didn't have to do for the kanger). I am going to reserve judgement until I fully break in the coil. Just thought I should gives you guys and update since everyone has been so helpful.

Well I'm glad to hear you've got something that's working for you, even if it's not the Crown...sometimes people just prefer different vapes.

Curious - where are you running the airflow on the Crown? The Subtank, even wide open, is a lot tighter than the Crown with the airflow half closed, so it could be that the extra air is having a muting effect on the flavor and you might prefer it with the air just a single click open and the wattage lower than recommended on the coils...my wife is a longtime Subtank vaper, and that's how she runs her Crown.

On the crown, I run half closed or 1/4 closed (4 clicks to fully close so 1 click away from open.) On the subtank, I have the airflow all the way open.

The reason I wanted the crown (besides the kanger being kinda broken) is that it was supposed to be an "upgrade" and the flavor was supposed to be "amazing." Plus the top-fill option was a Huge plus.

Just for fun, try it one click away from closed at comparable wattage to where you'd run your Subtank and see if that helps any. If not don't worry, we've all had purchases we've regretted and Kanger is coming out with a top-fill Subtank called the Toptank soon...

Isn't that the truth. I also have RTA/RTA tanks, that I still like to use, but were outperformed by newer tanks.

It's always a problem, relying on others opinions, especially regarding any atomizer, or e-liquid. When you are asking, what is the best RTA/RBA, or RDA, you will get a lot of responses. However, they are all subjective. What they like/prefer, doesn't necessarily mean, it's the right purchase for you. With time, you'll be able to decide, what topper is most likely to satisfy your preferences.

Most likely, the "liquid" in the bottom of the base, is due to condensation.

Are you a mouth to lungs (MTL; as in smoking), or direct to lungs (DL) hitter?

Judging from the fact OP is using a Subtank wide open, probably somewhere in between, borderline DL - even full blast I'd compare the Subtank to the Crown just one click away from closed.

Update: after the new coil taste went away on the crown, I now get 0 flavor whatsoever. Switched immediately to the subtank (same juice) and i can taste it fine (both coils same age). I switched the tanks on the mods and same situation so at least I know my new mod is fine. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or what. I bought the crown because of the rave reviews on the flavor, not seeing much of people having none at all. At this point I'm just done trying and shopping for a new tank. Sad to see so much money go, so far this new hobby is costing me way more than cigarettes.

Any suggestions on a good top fill tank? I was looking at the Smok TFV4. Someone has suggested I use a RDA/RBA. I've never built my own coil and I'm afraid that it will just be another money sink. Atm I just want something comparable to my old kanger flavorwise. I'll worry about building my own coils later when I have more money.

Thank you guys for all your help.

Too bad about your Crown. I have a couple and they rock with the Ni200 coils. Might check out the Herakles Plus, or the TFV4 mini. Probably going to grab one of these myself soon. Good luck, and it does take some time and money to find the vape experience we are looking for. Maybe go down to the local B/M and get a close and personal look at some tanks/rta's etc..

If you're this unhappy with the Crown I'd be hesitant to recommend anything else. Maybe wait for Kanger's Toptank?

Also curious for the ones that have used the crown, how long was your break in period? I'm thinking that maybe I need to put a few tanks in before I start tasting something? I'm trying to think of anything possible to prevent me from tossing.

I find 2-3 tankfuls before it really starts waking up on a new coil, but there's definitely a noticeable flavor within a handful of puffs. If you can't taste anything at all but you're still getting good vapor production, something is seriously wrong.

There is great vapor production but not much else. Uwell hasn't responded to me yet.

I'm totally puzzled by this! And I can't see that qc has anything to do with taste if you have vapor production. My only other suggestion would be to take it apart, remove all the O rings, and thoroughly clean it. I get full flavor after about a ml or two, providing I've broken it in properly (started at around 30 and moved up slowish to 60-70 or wherever I want it). My only other suggestion would be to try a totally different juice - maybe the one you have doesn't like running so hot? If your other tank is a subtank it's running much cooler.

@Mattp169 I have gone through 6 coils with the same result.
@AmandaD Do you use just warm water to clean or do you add something to the water? I also still have the spare o-rings, should I change them all?

Might try the Nickel coil that came with the tank since I have nothing to lose. Currently looking at 2 tanks for a replacement for payday next week. (smok tfv4 or the herakles plus if you are wondering). Currently using my kanger to keep me away from cigarettes until then.

I wash my tanks with a little dish soap and hot water. I wouldn't bother to change the O rings if they're sealing properly!

Don't know what happened to my crown. I can actually taste now, but it gurgles and spits lol. It might be the juice thats spitting into my mouth that is giving me the flavor. I didn't even take it apart yet. All I did was drop the last 1 ml of juice I had in it.

It's a common issue with the crown. Some batches of coils are hit and miss. You just need more coils. I've bought batches that were shit and other ones that were amazing.

Any updates with your tank? I got my crown tank few days ago, use it with my evic-vtc, and happened with the same no flavor situation, using 0.5 coil at first then change a new 0.5 coil but it didn't help. I do own a aspire triton v2 tank and it produce nice flavor, i use same juice in both tanks so it does bother me a lot.

Search online and found some people have the same issue but no point can actually point out the solution except just saying it needs a break-in period, since I already broken the current coil with 3 tanks of juice (10-12ml), maybe both coil that i used/using are bad coil?
