Common knowledge for some time that batteries don't go in checked bags. I read the story three times, however, looking for a reference to "cheap China gear" or even a manufacturer of the device in question that malfunctioned and came up empty. So I'm going to use that complete lack of supporting evidence to conclude that this was, without a doubt (or at least most likely), an overpriced American-made shiny metal tube that caused the damage.

Some asshole probably chucked a handful of 18650's along with his mods into his checked luggage before he got on the plane.
Don't they xray your shit?
Wouldn't something that looks identical to a bomb be of interest to the agents scanning the luggage?
How do they keep missing these battery powered electronic devices in checked bags?
Because they all don't catch fire so for every one that does catch fire 1000 more likely made it through unnoticed and unexploded.

Where were YOUR batteries made?
They are all, meaning 100% of them, made in China
I'm pretty sure AW uses Panasonic cells made in Japan and re-wraps them...
If it is a good mod it won't fire bad batteries...

The gray panasonics used to be the best of all the batteries back in the day.
