I've been steeping at F140 degrees, low setting on crockpot lid cracked, but I was wondering if there is a correct temperature?

What's your crockpot steeping regiment?

I steep at 150 degrees, have been for 1`5 yrs. and it always worked great but 140 should be fine. Hope this helps you.

I agree, 140 should be fine, and if it's working for YOU,that's what matters. I used to keep mine at 150, also. I've just gotten to lazy to keep pulling it out and messing with it, LOL.

I did a nic test on mine a couple years ago. Tested the nic before and after. My crock pot was accidentally set at 170. There was no nic degradation after 4 hours. Started and ended at the same mg.

Cool, how did you test the nic?

Unregulated crock pot sez...
alla' yous frufru, elitist, hoity-toity, timer usin', temp controlled, la-dee-da-de crockpot users think yer just so civilized! ;)

My crock pot is unconcerned with trivial details like temperature... or whether it's been on for 3 days.
It has 2 settings: Off and... Fucking Hot. This is adjusted by plugging it in the wall. :)
There is no timer... (other than allowing it to run outta water) No switches or control of any kind. :)

But other than that, it's quite sophisticated.
It came with a lid.

Might be best to just go with Huck's advice on this one. :(

I'll see your fancy, name-brand CrockPot and raise you a POS, solid black, generic electro-pot from a used-goods store which I fired up just yesterday for the first time, To my surprise, this little guy maintained a temperature of 140 to 150-ish degrees and provided me my first heat-steeping experience. See, I was a non-believer, truth be told, but sumbitch, four hours in the sauna took 120 ml of 10% CAP VC from off-clear to rosy. 'Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it m'self.

OK, I'm on board with heat -steeping custard. Tobaccos to try next,

Oh, and just kidding about your CrockPot, Sharkey. It's every bit as crappy as mine, :D

Actually, I just looked at mine which is identical to yours except for color so never mind, Where's the laughing at myself smilie?

It ain't even a crock pot.

Oh, yeah? My post's better'n your pot! Or not, but it held three 30 ml bottles today for a four-hour steep. If it makes killer bean dip too, I've got no complaints. One of the better $3.99 investments I've made since I started vaping. :D

I got my crockpot from BB&B or somewhere like that for $10. It has two settings - hot and warm. If the lid is cracked on warm it stays at 150 degrees which seems to work well. On the other hand, I rarely bother to steep anything these days!

Try using a coffee maker, brew some plain water into it then put your juices in. Its set to 160 degrees so you can burn the sugars and caramelize the juice. It may not go bad right away but intime I lost several jugs of juice to tasting bad and turning super dark. IMO there isn't much of a window between steeping and burning your juice so that epic failure was the first and last time I heat steeped any juice I have.

how do you like it ?
don't use mine for steeping but for heated ethanol exstraction for tobacos . and wanted the temp more accurate . works very nice for me.

Those temp controllers are amazing for the price. I use 'em for fermentation chamber control. But they can be used for anything temp related. You have to be willing to wire up a circuit, and they are only rated for 10 amps unless you use a relay. But quite effective and reliable.
