Beginner a little confused

Sorry for the ignorance, but I'm not certain what "type" of equipment I should be reading about...

I am interested in something that will mimic the "draw" of a cigarette as closely as possible, while providing a decent hit and cloud. I don't really want to get into building anything for myself, so am looking to purchase a battery unit that can control air and voltage, along with a clear tank I can simply refill.

I'm not really asking for specific recommendations, but I don't know what "type" of equipment I should be considering. Is what I've described called a "mod", a "mech", or something else? If anyone could tell me the type or class of equipment I've described, it would be much appreciated!

You're not being a pain, we're here to help if we can.

So, if you want a draw similar to a cigarette, you are likely a mouth to lung (MTL) vaper. Other tanks that are very airy draws are for direct lung (DL) hits and usually produce monster clouds, LOL. Tanks or drippers are available for both of these styles of vaping.

I prefer a box mod that takes replaceable 18650 batteries. There are also mods available that are rechargeable, and will eventually die out. They do last quite a while, though. Like a couple years, or more, depending on how you vape.

Mech mods have no built in saftey, require extra measure to be sure you're not gonna vent out the battery, causing injury or damage.

You can also find stick mods, similar to what you're using now, but more powerful, and usually a bit bigger.

A mech is a type of mod.
Two types of mods, "mech"(anical) and "regulated".
Regulated lets you set the voltage, wattage, or temperature.
Mechanical is basically just an on/off switch with no settings.

When you say 'mimic a cig', what exactly do you mean?
The resistance to the draw?
The taste of tobacco?
The temperature of the smoke?
The feeling of it going down your throat and back out again on an exhale?
Did you build up smoke in your mouth then pull it down into your lungs (mouth to lung) or did you directly inhale into your lungs?

Lots of great advice for you here, the UMadBro section is a great read... just a tough crowd.

What you are looking for is a mod, topper combo
The mod is what is sending power to the atomizer and the atomizer is what is creating the vapor.
The t18 and t22 are a combo kit that is said to be the best at mimicking the sensation of a cigarette

@Huckleberried, sounds like I am a MTL vaper and will start looking at regulated box mods and maybe stick mods. Since I already have a nice Xtar charger for 18650 batteries, a box mod with replaceable batteries may work.

@zaroba, by "draw" I am referring to the resistance felt as you draw air into your mouth before inhaling into your lungs. In a cigarette or cigar, it would be the resistance of the air as it flows through the tobacco and/or filter.

Maybe a mod with adjustable air flow will give me that sensation?

A tank will do that for you. Many of them have adjustable air flow these days. Quite handy! Adjust it to suit YOUR needs, rather than adjusting to the tank. The selection available these days can be overwhelming.

To add what has be advised, I've found that using tanks with 1+ ohm coils favor this style. I've been using an Artic tank with their 1 ohm coils (1.2 actual) and is satisfying compromise on flavor, vapor volume, and the draw adjustability.

If all else fails you & you're really desiring a very near cigarette experience you might want to try Halos. I recently come back full circle from starting with the 808 "cig-a-like"s and going all out to squonking. I may eventually, pick up a G6 kit for myself as they seem decent.

Been using a Match 10 what I got for a buck from a promo. The entry kit has one battery, a 90mAh one & three 1.5ml cartridges. The whole intent is you buy their cartridges filled with their juice. You can easily empty their juice and refill w/ your own though. I figure about ten or so refills each cartridge, then use new cartridge.

It would be nice to be able to rebuild the cartridges, but they are "closed" systems and not keen to that. I reckon you could rebuild them. For the hassle it'd be though, not worth the effort really. New blank cartridges do not cost much. That evens it out.
