I've been steeping at F140 degrees, low setting on crockpot lid cracked, but I was wondering if there is a correct temperature?
What's your crockpot steeping regiment?

I agree, 140 should be fine, and if it's working for YOU,that's what matters. I used to keep mine at 150, also. I've just gotten to lazy to keep pulling it out and messing with it, LOL.
I did a nic test on mine a couple years ago. Tested the nic before and after. My crock pot was accidentally set at 170. There was no nic degradation after 4 hours. Started and ended at the same mg.
I ordered a nic test kit a long time ago from Wizard Labs. Bull City Vapor also carries them AFAIK. Maybe $10?Cool, how did you test the nic?
Unregulated crock pot sez...
alla' yous frufru, elitist, hoity-toity, timer usin', temp controlled, la-dee-da-de crockpot users think yer just so civilized!
My crock pot is unconcerned with trivial details like temperature... or whether it's been on for 3 days.
It has 2 settings: Off and... Fucking Hot. This is adjusted by plugging it in the wall.
There is no timer... (other than allowing it to run outta water) No switches or control of any kind.
But other than that, it's quite sophisticated.
It came with a lid.
Might be best to just go with Huck's advice on this one.
I'll see your fancy, name-brand CrockPot and raise you a POS, solid black, generic electro-pot from a used-goods store which I fired up just yesterday for the first time, To my surprise, this little guy maintained a temperature of 140 to 150-ish degrees and provided me my first heat-steeping experience. See, I was a non-believer, truth be told, but sumbitch, four hours in the sauna took 120 ml of 10% CAP VC from off-clear to rosy. 'Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it m'self.
OK, I'm on board with heat -steeping custard. Tobaccos to try next,
Oh, and just kidding about your CrockPot, Sharkey. It's every bit as crappy as mine,
Actually, I just looked at mine which is identical to yours except for color so never mind, Where's the laughing at myself smilie?
It ain't even a crock pot.
It's a chocolate/queso/bean dip warmer, lucky to hold 300ml.

If I steep (custards or tobaccos) generally around 4 hours - although I've forgotten and left them in overnight with no consequences!this cracked me up thanks for that
also for how long at 150-140 or plugged jnto the wall for you less fancy folks out there ^^
how do you like it ?there are cheap digital temp controls you could plug the crock pot into for more precise control, under $20.
I have a couple for egg incubation and homebrewing hobbies.
