Vandyvape Icon A Mike Vapes Project Review By DeucesJack

Full Disclosure:

Let’s get all the disclosures out of the way. This RDA was sent to me directly from Vandyvape specifically for the purposes of this review. This will not in any way, shape, or form cause me to give this RDA a favorable review or change my opinion in any way.
8bc2dc166654d9ae43a512c292e3f909.jpg

First Impression Out Of The Box:

Nice solid looking RDA. Three drip tips just like the Govad. Nice, this is starting to be a thing with Vandyvape products. I’m diggin the stout look of the Icon. The Icon is a Mike Vapes project so I have high hopes for this one because he is one of my favorite reviewers.

What’s In The box:

Along with the three piece Icon you get three drip tips, a 510 drip tip adapter, a squonking pin, 4 spare hex screws, spare orings, and a hex key.

d7e403ec56a11d495a7d3f388a2f9adf.jpg

From Top To Bottom:

Out of the three included drip tips I like the tall one the best, that's the 14mm one. Along with that you also get a 16mm and a 17.5mm chuff cap style drip tip. All of them are Goon style drip tips so they have no o'rings. The oring is inside of the top cap. There is also a 510 drip tip adapter so technically you have a fourth choice of using your own drip tips. The top cap has a conical design to it. It has one oring along the top that secures it to the sleeve.

The sleeve has a total of four airflow holes that are square in shape. Vandyvapes calls this their hedged airflow system. The airflow holes are drilled in on a slant. I guess this allows the airflow to come in from both ends of the coils. There are two holes on each side of the sleeve with branding in between the holes. Of course the Icon has fully adjustable airflow and can be run in single or dual coil mode. The branding is well done and elegant. The sleeve slides onto the deck and it's held there by two o'rings.

Overall the finish on this RDA is really high quality. The machining is very precise. The o'rings all have just the right tolerances. I would have liked to have seen it in SS as well but Vandyvape only sent me a black one. The black paint looks really durable as well. The icon comes to you very clean. No machine oil or burrs at all. One wash and rinse is all it needs and you can start vaping.
3e97fa6fc4b1fe30e814a2fbb01616e7.jpg

The Deck:

The deck is gold plated and it has a two post, stepped design to it. Each of the four terminals is 3 mm by 1.8 mm so fitting wide flat leads in there is just not a problem. I have the reviewers version so I am missing a tiny little lip between the the terminals that stops your leads from sliding into each other during installation. To be honest it has never been an issue in the multiple builds I have used in the Icon. The Icon also has a 7mm juice that is just cavernous. I fill up this juice well and I can vape for quite a while before I have to drip again. On most of my RDA’s I get anywhere from 12-20 drops in there. On the Icon I can put 35 drops in the juice well without any leaking or spit back This is a 24mm RDA so it will look good on most of the newer mods. The Icon has a protruding gold plated 510 with an insulator so it is safe to use on Hybrids and Mechs. Lets not forget the squonk pin that the Icon comes with. It’s just a nice touch and with squonking becoming more and more popular I believe every manufacturer that produces an RDA or RDTA that is capable of squonking should include a squonk pin.

Building And Wicking:

Building and wicking the Icon is just a dream. The deck is so simple it's almost ridiculous. It’s not innovative it's just well done. Just slide your coils into the huge terminals, tighten her up, adjust your coils and you are ready to look for hot spots. Wicking is easy as well but I would suggest to use a little more cotton than usual because of the massive juice well.

But Deuces, How Does She Vape:

In my opinion the Icon is one fantastic vape. In fact it is just one of the best overall RDA’s I have ever vaped. It gives really good flavor and it is no slouch at all in the cloudage department. I mean what more could you ask for especially at the price point of the Icon? Right now I have dual Juggernauts in there ohming out at .15 ohms with a 3.5mm ID. I have it on my Slice in Kanthal TC at 75 watts and 500 degrees. The vape I get is just next level. The airflow is some of the smoothest I have ever experienced. The flavor is on point. The clouds are thick and lush. I’ll be honest I just cannot put this RDA down. It does get a little hot on the top cap when chain vaping but I remedied that by using a taller Goon aftermarket drip tip.

Conclusion:

If you are a dripper the Icon is a must have. There is just no two ways about it. The performance, clouds, and flavor are on point. It just does everything really, really well. It’s kind of like the Honda Accord of RDA’s. Nothing fancy but it does what it has to do and does it really, really well. The Icon just checks off all the boxes of everything you look for in an RDA. You can definitely tell that this RDA was designed for vapers by a vaper. That’s my take on the Vadyvape Mike Vapes Project Icon. This RDA has my highest DeucesJack approval. Just go out and get it you will not be disappointed. Well done Mike Vapes.

Great review bro!

Love RDA's with deep juice wells, the less I gotta drip the better.

Another one on the list

Have you tried it with a single coil? Also do you know how good the flavor is at like 30-40 watts? Excellent review as always.

Sent from my SM-S120VL using Tapatalk

I have not. I have a silly rule. I only run single coils on single coil decks. I hate leaving all that space open. LOL, I'm OCD like that. I have not ran it that low because I really don't build high enough to justify that type of wattage. You might want to check out my single coil Govad review.

I'm one of the weird ones that if I vape at higher than 50 watts the flavor goes to shit lol

Sign me up baby this is on my list for sure been watching this bad boy for a while thanks Deuces for bumping this to the top of the list mate great review :)

Considering many of the well known vapers out there who have had involvement in projects such as this churn out stupidly expensive RDAs at what seems like rip off prices Mike and the team at Vandyvapes should be commended!

Thx bro, I do what I can for the peeps that follow me. Definitely add this one to the list. Next up in the queue is the whole damn Battlestar lineup by Smoant.

Battlestar mod
Battlestar RDTA
Battlestar RTA

I'll give you guys a little teaser. One of them is the best I have ever used in the sub category it belongs to.

Enjoying your reviews a lot. @Deucesjack If you had to choose between the vandyvape icon and cigpet, which one would you get? I'm caught between these two right now and they're around the same prive here.

Wow, bro that's a tough one. I'd have to say the Cigpet edges it out with better flavor and bottom airflow. The machining is slightly better as well. I love both decks too. The Cigpet just beats it out by the tiniest margin. Tbh you can't go wrong with either.

Thanks! Glad to know they're neck and neck. I like the way the Icon looks and I really don't like the "William" on the side of the cigpet. But I value taste and machining more than looks. And the cigpet does have that pretty DT going for it. Where I am, it's also slightly cheaper.

I think that is the perfect description for this RDA "Honda Accord" it's ok but not breath taking either functionally everything is really spot on in the price range it's more of a "clouds bro" rda for me and despite all it's crapness on the build deck and crappy leaking from the negative screw I favour the Peerless for flavour and draw

Oh and I own Honda Accord it's a fucking machine! Seriously that bastard just goes and goes feel like after 110k miles it's only just breaking in! Love it ;)

Why??? Just be cause it can holds more than 2ml of gasoline?

Tpd compliance? :giggle::giggle:
Hehe yeah went in to my Honda dealership they said civics are more popular over here so Japan decided to pull out couldn't compete with mid range market over here

Back to topic though don't get me wrong out of the 2 I'd probably go with the Icon it's made much better...post system is better and it doesn't leak was just putting that out there for other people considering both Icon or Peerless
