Unbelievable cost savings with DIY

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but holy smokes... I've been mixing my own juices for a couple weeks now and having a blast doing it. A buddy was just telling me about this local juice company and how great it is. I'm looking at their website now and see a 240oz bottle of their juice costs... $116!! I think I figured making my own bottle this size would cost about $5, with most of that cost being the bottle itself.

How did I ever buy pre-made juice? I'm sure everyone who's discovered DIY must ask themselves this question a lot, lol.

Well yes.. One can save a lot of money if they stick to a plan. I'm a flavor chaser so I buy the latest and greatest flavorings. I still come out ahead in cost saving. Very rarely do I buy eliquid. I keep myself, brother and SIL stocked. I never broke down the cost since I stick with the same old vapes. I don't go for the latest and greatest when it comes to hardware.

Just playing devil's advocate here. The bigger vendors do have overhead to pay for. Rent, utilities, labor, etc. Then some profit, however I don't feel sorry for them by my making my own juice and denying them profit from me. I do thank them for having their businesses when I first started vaping, because that is what enabled me to quit smoking. I also thank everyone here who has posted the wonderful recipes that have enabled me to mix my own juice and save money on juice. Now I just need to figure out how to DIY hardware...

Very true, didn't mean to bash bigger companies, overhead is a pain. I mostly meant the online sites that charge so much and probably have little to no overhead :)

Totally agree about being thankful for these vendors for when I started. Obviously new vapers aren't likely to jump straight into DIY. And vendors certainly have overhead. But in my example, suppose it costs them 3X more to make that bottle than a DIY-er, they're still putting a nearly 700% markup on it. If they can get it, good for them. But to your point, they aren't getting it from me anymore.

My cost is usually around 96 cents for about a 20ml if I have to buy bottles, but that was a while ago and I've cut down on costs since then. Beats the hell out of $6 packs of cigarettes

I'm a picky DIYer -- TFA and CAP strawberry is cheaper, but I will accept nothing but INW shisha strawberry. But I STILL save buttloads of money over buying ejuice! I've still been occasionally buying some Blueberry Muffin, but I'm thinking I may try Higgycig's blueberry+banana, it's cheaper. At least until I can come up with a good blueberry recipe that's all-DIY; so far I haven't.

Latest and greatest hardware can bite my butt; I've got 2 Achilles, 2 Magmas, half a dozen decent mods; that's all I need. :) Though I am truly looking forward to a clone of the Achilles 2, if Yeahsmo would ever pull their thumb out and get it made.

I got lucky as it only took me about six weeks after my first vape to discover how cheap and easy DIY can be. I don't keep track of how much I have spent on vaping, more like how much can I spend, which is allot less these days.
I have an iStick 100W TC box mod, a Fire Phoenix 2 and 3 eGo batteries that I use outside of my room. Two RDA's, 3 RTA's and a few clearomizers to use with the eGo's, all clones. I do have a weakness for flavors. I cave in at the slightest sale.

Still, not only is flavor making a hobby, but my vaping is miles cheaper then smoking ever was, and more flavorful.

yeah the cost saving is great but the real advantage is being able to vape something that doesn't taste like shit...after you realized you just spent 25.00 for 30ml....

I think the reason most say that they love the juice they spent that much money on, its only to rationalize that they paid that much for 30ml's of shitty juice.

Haha, so I'm not the only one! After DIY-ing for a while, I tried some vendor juices I had leftover, and they just didn't taste good at all. All ones I liked before. Really caught me off guard.

I make a gallon of juice for under $100.
Buying a gallon of premade juice from vendors bottle by bottle can easily cost $3,000 (varies by vendor).

I also find most premade juice to be waaaay overflavored. I usually keep my DIY flavoring to around 5-6 percent.

Another benefit of the unbelievable savings is knowing exactly what you are vaping. It may not happen often but some of the store bought e-Liquids can contain more nicotine then it is marked as. Mistakes do happen.

My wife vapes a 3nic 4.5% HS Desert Ship and 3/4% sig circus cotton candy blend I make for her. With Essential Depot having a sale so I picked up quarts of VG and PG for @ 6 bucks. I crunched the numbers and I came up with $4.95 to build her 200mls of juice, thats just over 2 cents per ml. I was paying $25.00USD for 100mls on sale for my wife's juice so a price drop from 50 bucks per 200ml to 5 bucks is a substantial saving. She also vape @ 50mls per week
My juice is a tad more expensive since I vape 12nic tobacco blends but still only 2 or 3 ingredient mixes. The nic is more expensive up here in Canada at $120.00 a liter vs some of the 40 bucks I see for US nic but add the exchange and shipping along with customs anxiety the price isn't really that much more.
In our 3 years of vaping this last year has been our best vape experience once I ditched all the commercial juices and vape my DIY blends.

Yeah, I called the local B&M the other day asking about empty e-Liquid bottles and just said thank you and hung up. Almost cheaper to buy a full bottle and vape it! When I think of all the bottles I put in the recycling bin I could kick myself!

Yeah pricing bottles I was in shock at the prices and the only way to get a discount is to buy in bulk. Sure I eventually will use 100 minimum but I only have so many flavors. I have no problem soaking them for a day or two if I want to reuse a few.

For sure man! It makes you wonder why people charge so much, but I guess that is one way to make money :\

Don't forget the cost to operate a legitimate business like salaries, workers compensation, insurance and licensing. Sure it cost me $.30 to make a 30 ML bottle but what about my labor? Most expensive e-Liquid per bottle!
