if you're heavy into vaping like me you may want to up your water intake.

vaping can make your mouth really dry which accelerates tooth decay (as can many prescription drugs)

I've started keeping bottles water in my purse with my vape - dry mouth can sneak up on you if you're not equipped.

oh yes, i went from one bottle a day max before i vaped to around 7 a day lol....I give my bottles to a homeless guy that walks the block, he told me that I put meals in his belly all the time now hehehehe. Vaping is saving the world, one bottle at a time.

Hold on: are e-cigs worse than analogs from a purely orthodontic perspective?! I'm asking sincerely.

I'm not comparing the two - vaping can, by drawing dry air in your mouth, make it really dry.

it doesn't stain your teeth like darts

but it's absolutely the case that a dry mouth causes accelerated tooth decay if left unchecked

I use a high fluoride toothpaste after being on this medicine that caused dry mouth. (I don't even eat sugar but am prone to cavities)

anyways, I just wish I knew about dry mouth side-effects before the quadruple root canal!

As a vaper, I now drink the amount of water that doctors have been recommending us to drink for years now!

And my dentist is thrilled with the fact that I am not smoking anymore and has commented that my teeth and gums are looking much better than before.

And I am even better looking!Ron J.png

This is very sound advice. I drink a shit ton of water... Only downside is more frequent trips to the bathroom. I had the majority of my left parotid gland removed along with the benign tumor occupying it in April 2011, and it produces roughly 40% of your saliva. I also recently started an antihistamine for sleeping issues which drys your mouth. With all that added up, I have serious issues with dry mouth. I keep water everywhere.

I'm about to pickup some biotin actually, since it's gotten worse with this med. It absolutely will cause tooth decay, and it makes your breath stink, too. Saliva helps kill bacteria. Chewing sugar free gum with xylitol is a good strategy as well. It's great for your teeth, actually, and also kills bacteria. I sometimes sleep with some gum in, kinda strange, but I will wake up from dry mouth and the gum prevents that. Vape on! Drink on!

Invest in some Biotene, does wonders for dry mouth.
This is so true. I got my surgery over three years ago, and just today got biotene. It has made a great deal of improvement for me. Seems to reset the taste buds as well.

On a side note, a tip for oral care is to get " Doctor's Brushpicks" brand, they are amazing for getting little bits of food from your teeth. Another benefit is they are awesome for cleaning and adjusting coils, etc. they have a little brush at the end making them a great little tool for vapers.

You must be talking about the small size...16oz is about 8 bucks, and 36 oz is $17.
Yup, I got the 8 oz. Money's not exactly abundant, and I figured I'd try the small one first, now I know it's legit. My surgeon recommended it, so I already figured as much. They had two kinds. One was almost twice the price and didn't seem much more beneficial. Also, the generic was only .20 cents less, so I went luxury style and got name brand... My mouth is living the good life ;).

So yeah, I fucking love this stuff. Might seem weird, but as I said, without almost 40% of my saliva production due to my surgery, it's a dream. Problem is, I'm already more than halfway through the 8 oz. gonna need those coupons, so thanks again for those. I'm using small amounts at a time, but it helps me SOOO much. I need this even without vaping, and am glad I bought it.

If only it solved all the other remaining issues, though I don't really notice them anymore. My nerve to my ear had to be cut, so if I pinch it, I can't even feel it, but it makes my jawline hurt. If I rub my jawline, my ear tingles. And I sweat from my cheek when I eat, too. The surgery does all sorts of wacky shit to your nerves, I'm just happy they were able to remove it without paralyzingly half of my face. I can deal with the other shit.

I find this strange, since we're inhaling a vapor
But, can't argue with science.

I'm sure it has to do with the vapor being absorbed into all the glands and what not. It does sound backwards, but it might also have to do with it not being water vapor, but rather PG VG flavoring and nicotine. Those might all dry us out.

Good article, and pretty much what I expected. I do like water, however. That and black coffee in the morning is most of my fluid intake. I eliminated all liquid calories aside from protein shakes years ago, and you get used to it quickly. It's good for so many reasons, all the added sugars in soda and even juice are not good for you. Water ain't that bad.

So I already went through the entire bottle, went to walmart to shop as usual, and I'm an idiot. The generic that was .20 cents more was a 16 oz. bottle. 3.67 for that seems pretty damn good, since I'm using this shit so much. Went through 8 oz. since Sunday.

Yeah, stick with the name brand on this one I think, use those coupons I posted...and sip like a fine wine instead of chugging like a beer...;)

Already got the walmart brand, tastes the same and seems to do the trick. I use small amounts, I just literally wake up from dry mouth sometimes, so I'm definitely using it more frequently than most. I will use the coupons, though. Good stuff, my teeth and breath are happy.

Biotene is primarily vegetable glycerine - our own VG, with a little sweetener, some Xylitol & preservatives. Those glycerine swabs they use in the hospital are pure VG with lemon flavoring & a touch of sweetener. I use coconut oil for my chapped vape lips & I'll be darned! I just went and pulled a tube of Toothette Mouth Moisturizer from my cabinet (I got dry mouth reading this thread) and turned it over to read the ingredients.... water, coconut oil, flavor, etc., etc.... whatever works (and doesn't cost a fortune)

My teeth are looking like they used to! I will definitely be drinking much more water than I already am just to be safe though.
