Well I finally got the parts in and took the time to build my first unregulated box mod. The pics aren't that great but I was a bit impatient and messed with it before the paint had properly dried so the paint job isn't the greatest, but here she is!

Nice job! Was it difficult to do? I'm tempted after getting a Tugboat and seeing how basic the insides are

It's not terribly difficult to do, but I would advise having some experience with soldering and drilling at the very least as well as some knowledge of electronics. There's loads of places to find schematics. I tend to use the schematics for the dual 18650 unregulated boxes over on nonameboxmods.com and get my parts from modzbynasy.com

I would also make sure you do a bit of research before trying your first build. Know ahead of time whether you're going to do a parallel or series unit and why, find yourself a good source for reliable batteries as well. If you're going to paint your own box the way I did on my first one, be patient! I was a bit impatient when building my first one and I messed with the box while the paint was still slightly tacky and it messed up the paint. I've gone and built another mod since this one and it's a bit better, but still kinda sloppy. I'm hoping the next one I do will turn out better. Look around at some of the other threads, I'm sure there's plenty of folks with a heck of a lot more experience than me that can help you out as well. Good luck!

How much did it cost you for all the parts.

For the parts to build just the mod itself it's around $25 on the site I mentioned above. That's for a raw unpainted box, the mosfet, resistor, 510 connector, magnets, and the fire switch. The cutoff switch I used I had lying around the house from some electronics kits I had, but you can probably get them from any electronics supplier for something like $3-5 a crack. The wiring I used was scraps from work as well as the heat shrink I put over the mosfet, and the rubber tape I put between the negative battery contacts and the case and epoxy for gluing down the battery sled. I also used my soldering station and other tools at work so I didn't have to buy much of that. Batteries I pick up from either Liion wholesale or RTD vapors and run on average $5-8ish per battery. I don't remember what I paid for the paint I used, or for the decal paper I used to print out the decal on that one. If you pick up all the parts and wire on your own it will run around $45-50ish without tools and paint. The site I buy my parts from also has powdercoated boxes if you don't want to mess with paint. I picked up one of the CNC milled no lean boxes already powder coated for $20 for my second build. Parts to build the mod itself without batteries gets up to around $40 in that case, with everything costing you around $60ish if you're buying wire and heatshrink and whatnot.

Modzbynazy.com is the site I use for parts. Be aware when you select magnets that you will need 4 of each type for your box. You will also need to drop something down the holes in the main box so the magnets sit level.

You can also use schematics found on Nonameboxmods.com. If you want, you can buy kits there as well. The kits on that site will include a printed circuit board with mosfets and the cutoff switch already mounted and you get wire and heat shrink, but the kits are a bit pricier, and there's a bit more work involved in modifying the battery sled. There's also handy links on that site for a drilling guide so you know where to drill your holes and there's a video I suggest watching that goes into exact detail on how he builds his mods. I used that video as a guide and modified what I did as needed.

Kanger Subtank Plus 7ml. I was up until 3am but finally built my first dual coil on this lil' sucker. I'm going to order a new sub tank with the holes in the chimney - only $6.95. Weighed in at .39ohm using 2mm coils when finished. Damn, it weighed just under 1.5lbs full of juice w/the 1lb mod. I should have taken a pic of it but was too tired. I primed it too much but after chain vaping (while spitting back at me) I found my sweet spot at only 30w on my Sigelei Fuchai. Anything higher than that tasted burnt. And, I'm not getting the flavor vs. the smooth, thick vape with the standard replacement coils. What's up wit' dat'? Any words of wisdom?

Burnt taste is most often a result of excessive heat. Heat also has been known to affect flavor negatively. You might r same build using thicker wire or higher resistance. A .39ohm dual running at 30 watts burning tells me the coil has too high a heat flux. As a .39 coil want to naturally run at around 50 watt with battery voltage

I'm ordering 24g. I tried 25g and it isn't quite doing the job. I'll check the cotton, too. I may need to pull a bit out of there. I'm good at 50w. I'll even go 30w on my 2 smaller tanks to keep the flavor. Thanks!

it looks nice, does it work well?

Yes. It works quite well. You can use the 7ml all day at work and through happy hour and an after-party if you're not a hard hitter. Great flavor and decent clouds. Nothing you have to stop traffic for, but good enough to impress and enjoy. Actually, thinkin gof selling mine. It's the only 25mm tank I have and nothing to put it on. Redoing my meager collection to what suits my taste, not for what everyone else has. That was my first noob mistake.
