Doctors need to get on board more with vaping too --- especially when you consider the astronomically high failure rate on quitting actual tobacco.

The "all or nothing" approach does not work for tobacco addiction

That's why my doctor is so pleased that I switched to vaping; he's been trying to push that NRT snake-oil on me for 18 yrs, with zero success, because I already knew it just didn't work. Now when I walk in, the nurses just smile, since they're not smelling the cigarette funk on me anymore, and the doctor just walks into the exam room and immediately says, so, I guess the quitting is still going well, for the same reason -- I don't stink up the whole office! He's an internist who seems to mostly specialize in geriatric patients -- a great many of whom have smoked, or still smoke because they just can't quit, so he knows EXACTLY how hard quitting is, despite every good reason in the world for quitting. Last visit, last month, he said he was pleased that I'm sticking to it, because the backsliding to smoking is all too common, for those who manage to quit in other ways.

Today I was with a friend of mine and his wife who just finished her last round of chemotherapy about a month ago.

Her hair is beginning to grow back and she's starting to gain some weight, she really looks good compared to the last time I seen her. My buddy Mike went to talk to a caddy in back of the clubhouse...his wife says I'll be back in a minute. She's gone for about 5 minutes and sits back down. I can instantly smell cigarette smoke. I couldn't believe my nose. I said you smoked a cigarette?. She says yes, please don't tell Mike, he thinks I quit. All I could think is wow, this is unbelievable. Then I thought I could be this person, perhaps I couldn't quit either.

She didn't know I vaped, I don't publicise it around people. Anyway, I leaned over and said to her please call me when you have a few minutes, I have something very important to explain which could potentially get you off from the cigarettes. She says give me a clue would you please. I said you need to try vaping. I'll explain everything when I hear from you, as I could see Mike walking back to our table.

This has really been bothering me this evening....I still can't believe after weeks of chemo she still couldn't stop smoking. I wonder how many hundreds of thousands of people just like her are doing the exact same thing, smoking themselves to death when they have a slight chance of living longer just by tossing the smokes out and vaping.

I'll do my damndest to get her set up with a simple battery and atomizer. This just stuns me though, the grip chemicals in cigarettes have on people. What stuns me more is the fact the government would like it this way.

Hopefully she calls tomorrow, so I can ask her to please meet me at a vape shop nearby.
Wow, that is so great, though, that you were in a situation were you can help (ie, smelled the smoke when hubby is away). I sure hope she calls, too. You know, this could be any one of us in 10, 20, 30 years if it wasn't for vaping. I know it would be me. I started smoking when I was 16 (well, earlier than that, but it became a habit in highschool). I smoked 1-2 packs a day while watching my grandmother die of lung cancer.
What really chafes me is the whole puritanical mindset that if you're not denying yourself, you are weak, and therefore deserve to die a slow painful death. I think this really plays into the anti-vaping mentality, and why the general public is so willing to believe the whole vaping is worse than smoking bullshit.

Hank - was it you (because i am too lazy to search and have to do some minimal threshold adulting today) that mentioned the Cigreen Gear RDA?

if so, DAMN you. and thanks. and damn you. (but mostly thanks - with a healthy side of damn you)
Indeed it was doc. And you're very fucking welcome! LOL Did I mention that Flawless is selling the Tugboat v2s with either a Slam Cap or a Comp Cap for $65? LOFL

Hank, any good word on the FT clones of the Goon, or is it a POS, or do you get a commission on the realio? ;)

╭∩╮(︶O︶)╭∩╮
Not sure, really. I know there's a 1:1 clone on alibaba if you use them. But in my opinion it's worth the $60 for an authentic. Then again you CAN get it cheaper from sites with codes. Like vapordna, code DNA10, gets you 10% off, I think

That's so great that your doc is into it! I have a neighbor who has been on and off chantix for a few years now (he & I became friends because we both smoked). He always goes back to smoking. I think he stopped for several months most recently, but I just saw him on the porch with a cig a few days ago. Also, and I don't think he'd ever admit it, I hear him yelling & slamming doors & swearing during the times he's on it-- pretty sure that shit can make you violent. No thank you. He knows I vape, and I've offered to help him if he ever wants to switch, but he never has.

Well, my doctor *is* concerned that I still have a lot of problems with my asthma, but I tried to explain it to him, last visit: vaping is the ONLY thing that has ever truly worked for quitting; it may exacerbate my asthma a little, but it also keeps me from wanting to smoke; if I quit vaping, I'm just about certain that the cravings for cigarettes will return full-bore, and I cannot resist those cravings, they're too strong and painful... and going back to smoking might ease the asthma a little, but would bring a return of all the other risks: cancer, COPD (that one particularly, since I already have asthma), and just general ill-health for my whole body. My very best bet is just to keep vaping, keep not smoking, and trust that my gradual lessening of need to vape continues, as the years go by -- because I use half the nic level I started with, and vape half the amount that I did at first. He agreed; that really is my very best option. He is a SANE doctor, who knows that ANYTHING is better than smoking.

dammit hank... shutcher cockwasher!

i do have a Gear RDA en route (grumble, mumble **SHINY** oh hey! squirrel!)... and black Goon RDA due tomorrow

gotta start collecting components for the vape stations now - got an elegant sufficiency of 510 connectors due in today (was only piece i really had concerns about being 'regulated' besides dna200 boards - going to wait about 77 days before i order those, lol)... going to get all the other components (psu, power connectors, cabling, EL wire, connector blocks, hammond enclosures, toggle switches, etc etc) in chunks (easier to sneak em over the wife-border that way) and plan on starting build this summer... though, I have some clocks to build for the lady wife first to earn some points (using slabs of wood cut from tree from her childhood that had to be taken down - to be fair, i just have to cut slices, inset the clock works and finish em - but i gots to get off mah ass to do it... but if i get THAT done, i will have some wiggle room on the vape stations... heh...)

I'm lucky - my Mister agreed that it would be wise to make a few more purchases of high quality items that will likely be super durable

Ironically, he's still a smoker who has seen first-hand the benefits of vaping vs. smoking but still refuses to budge.

Why do you think I finally got my own Mister to agree to that expensive Achilles 2? ;) I'll probably be ordering that later today, once we see exactly how much the installation on the water heater is going to run (we had a complication on that, due to our county requiring some kind of "thermal expansion" thingie be installed with the new water heater; the thingie itself was only $40, and we already paid in full for the water heater and normal installation, but don't know yet how much the extra thingie will add to the cost of installation).

He hasn't been a smoker himself in over 40 yrs.... but he also didn't think I'd ever quit smoking; he was as surprised and delighted as I am, that vaping really worked for me! And definitely wants it to continue working! And also knows that vaping costs about 1/4-1/5 what smoking cost... in every possible way!

Well, a new complication has come up, with our water heater installation. First off, the extra thingie that we had to buy, wasn't included with the water heater when the Lowes plumber picked up the water heater. And then, when the plumber got out here and looked at the existing installation, he said that when they installed our water purification system, they connected the drain from the water purification system into the drain for the water heater, and that's apparently against code.

So it's all still up in the air.

Well, we called Eco-Water who sold us and installed the purification system, and they're coming out Monday to fix that drain problem, at no charge to us, since what they did is illegal. So, that will be resolved pretty easily.

But this other crap, with Lowes... they're saying that adding that thermal expansion tank, a part which costs just $40, would mean an EXTRA $500 in labor! So we';re cancelling the whole thing. We'll buy the damn water heater ourselves, and either install it ourselves, my husband is VERY handy, or, hire a plumber to do the whole installation... which would surely cost less than $800+ that Lowes wouild charge for that installation!

Idiots.

That is why I do shit myself. A drain is a drain is a drain and it doesnt make a rats ass if it shares the drain with anything else. A code like that is only to create more work that will cost the home owner.

Well I can actually see the point; if they're connected, and that drain is dripping, there's no way to know which thing is leaking -- sorta like coding; if you change more than one thing, you have no idea which thing screwed it up.

What I CAN'T see is why adding the installation of a thermal expansion tank means $500 MORE labor, over the $387 already being charged for the water heater installation. That's fucking ridiculous, so we cancelled the whole deal.

The only time I ever had trouble holding on for 8 seconds involved (ummm, sorry for bringing this subject back up again) surprise dolphin butt sex.

Yall ever seen dolphins have sex? I did a few times. Not butt sex mind ya. I use to work offshore and at times schools of dolphins would swim around the platforms. When ya see two of them swimming together belly to belly ya know what they are doing :D

I have installed many water heaters. My own, parents, elderly friends, and never put on a thermal expansion tanks. I can understand the theory behind it yet I have never had a pipe burst from hot water expanding. Even on a PVC pipe plumbed house. When I converted the barn we live in to a house I plumbed all of it with PVC plastic pipe and thermal expansion doesnt bother it at all. Pipes been there over 15 years now and not a leak anywhere. IMHO thermal expansion tanks are over kill.

Maybe true, but apparently our county requires it, and after reading up on what it does, I can actually see the point; Gwinnett county doesn't want any backflow into the public system, and although I don't know if we have a one-way valve making ours a closed system, if we do have that, then the extra tank would mean that any increased water pressure wouldn't put a strain on our pipes -- which are all copper, thank the lord, and copper is the only kind I would want, so they'd be a little pricy to replace. So i don't mind a bit if we have that too. And a REASONABLE extra labor charge (price I saw online was $75-$150, depending on the actual installation), i wouldn't mind either -- but $500 more? No fucking way. My mother didn't raise any stupid children!

Holy fuck. Well, glad I need to wait another four days. By then, they may have a Dripbox 3 that makes coffee and offers blow-jobs on low watt settings. I see they added a Velocity style RDA deck. That fucking rocks.

Kanger Tech Priority Goal Wall Post-it

1. Make regulated squonk box.
2. Combine regulated squonk box with killer RDA base.
3. Rule the world, profit!

I can see it, * nodding * Yep, yep. I just bet they did, too. Granted, the $60 price tag for me is still a bit steep. Given what it is though. "My precious, come to me precious, yes you are precious ..."

Also looks as though they use a Wismec 200S Mod form, instead of three 18650s swap in a juice bottle & drop 40 watts. Considering it seems JoyeTech, Kanger, Smok, Eleaf are all under the SHENZHEN tech umbrella of companies it would seem to make sense for combining all the resources to develop a fully robust end all product. I also think I recall seeing Wismec, MJ Tech are also part of Shenzhen tech company/ies.

MJ Tech makes the Ola X Hero that I did so enjoy until apparently the mosfet went kaput on it for no reason. I do hope they may correct this and better the Ola X Hero line of mods with better quality parts. I would still enjoy a single 18650 variable wattage mod, 7-30 watt range for simple testing, general use even to mildly sub ohm. The Ola X Hero seemed promising.

* Some how knows that somewhere a Shenzhen Tech mind spy is probing his mind to attain further global domination plots, always has this feeling when typing about Shenzen technology/ies company/ies on any kind of forum, public or private ... decides it's all okay though, waves and smiles to the Shenzhen Tech mind probe agent, bows respectfully ... goes on watching for squirrels *

* has another passing thought "hmmm, maybe they ought to put me on pay roll or something, nah, they know they cannot buy shit from bulls ... hmm wise indeed are they ..." goes on keeping on *

Ahhh. Hehe. Lookie brother Spanky. ---> http://www.vapingunderground.com/threads/kanger-dripbox-160w-tc-mod-starter-kit-56-99.237494/ Vapor Whale will carry it. This means it will remain at least somewhat affordable. Plus it remains back assward compatible, the regular Dripbox build decks will still fit the newer model. It has TC, which I was not really too interested in even trying but what the hey, extra features are just icing on the cake. Never mind the cake always being a lie.

Sweet deal. I think it is a "I can ship my pants, for free even" kind of deal. :)

Well, I've been up to Hanky Spanky. Not really vape related, except just training myself to waste money needlessly beyond the golden age of vaping. The day appears to be coming when we will need to learn how to do this.

And Hank, no Mrs. answering for me. It was the DAWTERS idea. Apparently, vinyl is the rage again. And she's chomping at the bit at the 6' stack of LP's I have. I will admit, that the clear acrylic platter upgrade was my idea. More mass, better resonance protection, and you can put LED's in it, that will flash in time to the music. Time to turn this beat around! ;) Donna Summers would expect no less.

We still have the original stereo system we bought in 1987 shortly after we married, though some of the electronics for the speaker jacks are kinda fried -- the turntable still works! We just need a new stereo that will accept it! No idea how to find that, beyond just hunting around tirelessly.

It's a shame, because my husband has built an enormous record collection. A lot of our LPs have been duplicated on CD now, but there are some we haven't yet been able to find on CD, and some we haven't bothered, though it'd be nice to have them -- such as my entire early Cheap Trick catalog, I think it's their first 6-7 records.
