So today someone told me that ketchup cleans copper up real nice, so we came home and tried it.

Turns out it works like a charm! it took almost no effort to get the copper shining again within a minute. We thought it was the vinegar that's doing the work so we tried distilled vinegar, but doesn't really work nearly as well.

I think the effectiveness is partly due to the vinegar and partly to the organic acids found in tomatoes. At any rate, this has been my preferred method of copper-cleaning for a while now. Make sure to rinse thoroughly when you're done shining, though, as any residual acid on the mod might cause pitting and other unsightly blemishes. You also don't want your hands smelling like a ketchup factory.

I prefer Heinz because it's extra thick. :D

I'll stick with Bartenders Friend.

I only use Bartender's Friend on french fries (and occasionally hot dogs).

Vinegar in the ketchup

Wanna de-cold blue a firearm in a hurry, use white vinegar, also works almost like CLR (calcium, lime, rust)

vinegar reacts with the salt to remove what chemists call copper oxide

Also works GREAT in hot water tanks...dump a gallon or two of cheap store white vinegar in the tank fill with water...let it sit a day, then purge thru the drain fitting on the bottom, also put a ziplock bag of it around your clogged up shower head and let it soak a few hours...clean clean clean, and useless life hack #7958431295412, mix 1:1 water/white vinegar in a glass microwave proof bowl, put in microwave for 10 minutes, use a sponge to wipe all the suck on/caked on goo inside of the microwave (it may make your house smell like vinegar for a hour or two, but small price to pay for a squeaky clean microwave :D [more or less "steam cleaning" the inside of the microwave])

I tried ketchup first, then vinegar, then lemon juice. I'll stick to vinegar. It's so quick, and doesn't stay sticky even though you rinsed it pretty well. But you do have to rinse it like immediately afterwards.
