I don't enter many, unless contest is 1 post only, otherwise you get some members who just spam the hell out of the thread, if they are that desperate to win, then guess they are really in need, or they are just plain greedy.

The ones who really irritate me, are the ones who have already won several times already, but still spam the contest threads, how about being fair and let other members have a chance at winning something, as I'm sure it puts a lot of people off entering contests.

I think I'd have to agree that the "contest whores" are a huge pain. I've entered several contests, and never win anything, but the same people over and over seem to constantly win. If they're kinda newbies, that's great, it helps them build their vape stock, but some of those people are even further from newbie than I am! :D

I try to be selective when I enter a contest. I entered a contest recently and found out they only make VG eliquid. I pulled my entry. It is the same thread issues have evolved. I'm not able to work right now so I'm entering a few more contests. I'm still not going to spam a thread or act like a asshole.I believe in integrity.

I win stuff 2-3x a year. I think it's a freak win.

The true contest ho's can be irritating as they are spamming threads (when one entry is noted) and don't follow the rules at times.
I probably have more to say but I better shut up for now.

THAT and...
Click on this
enter that
stick out your tongue
pull your right ear
scurry over to this place
pet your neighbor's dog
run to Target
run outside and shout at a clover

That last one you can do each day, but you must spam 17 friends to do so.
I see that on Facebook. I don't enter FB contests because I want to keep the friends I have. I don't have a disposable account and only have friends I know. I think I have one vapor friend on my list

Sounds like a cheap way to pimp a vendor for almost free. They give out a prize but 1000's enter and pimp their links. Too much work for me..

I've entered few contests since being here. I've won a few of them.

I never entered a contest for something I would not use. Everything I have won, I've used.

I don't enter contests that require hoop jumping. A response to the OP is good for me.

But I've also seen the contest whores come from the woodwork. Some people will really act like a twat, for a little "free" stuff.

There are lots of marketing books written on this very subject. Social media can be the cheapest, most effective marketing campaigns for products and services.

I do not do social media, for this very reason. I get marketed to enough on a daily basis. Besides, I like my personal info, staying personal and private.

Yeah, I dislike the contests that are only enterable via social media and don't enter them.

I also do not enter contests for things I really won't use.

The ho's bother bug me too. But I also found most contest ho's also bother me in their other posts, so whatever, lol.

And yeah, the bit about spamming 17 friends... I don't HAVE 17 friends. I don't have SEVEN friends. In fact... I have no friends at all who aren't online acquaintances, and know ZERO other vapers near me (except the teens across the street, who're too young to do anything at all here). I really AM a hermit -- no job, my son is grown so no school shit to do, and I know my neighbors just about well enough to wave to them... Just me and my mate and my pals on the internet and lots of books to read, that's all I need.

If I can enter a contest by making one post, or one post a day... or hell, just posting endlessly in a single thread, I'll do it. I'll even post it to twitter and FB and G+, ONCE. Not over and over and over... No. If they want that much advertising, they need to pay me, to take that much of my time.

I'd do the social thing EXCEPT I check FB about once a month and also it irritates the living hell out of me when "friends" tag me on shit I have no interest in on FB. I mean really, really hate it.

Likewise! I had to put the ixnay on all that Farmville and Candy Crush shit a LONG time ago! The only time I get on FB is if an article RE: vaping is so great, I want to post it just everywhere, all over the place. Likewise that frequency for G+. I do get on Twitter every day, several hours' worth, all together, but I'm pretty sure that 340 people aren't following me to see a bunch of commercial shit.

I personally only enter a contest for something that I know I'll use. I am currently in one contest atm and that is for an RX200S. I only have one mood and it would be nice to have an extra one too swap with. I don't have alot of gear, but what I do have is quality. I agree that there are contest hoes. I know of a couple actually. But on the other side of that coin I have had some good discussions and learned of some good gear in talking to people in those threads too. Contests have a good place if they aren't abused.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

Right?! That's just the weirdest. I saw a chick win on one show 3 times the same night.
Yep, I think I know who you're talking about, but won't mention names. This chick is lucky as hell. It's not just ME that she wins like that on, it's several shows. She really needs to play the lottery.

Once I realized which types of contests I enjoy, it got easier to overlook the crap. My rules:

Something I don't think I'd use or PIF? Don't participate
Allowing unlimited entries? Don't participate
Require Facebook liking or sharing? Don't participate
Require inviting friends to the thread? Don't participate
Offered on a vape show with more than 20-30 people? Don't participate

I may not enter very many, but at least the ones I enter seem fair and reasonable and I am completely free of butthurt!

I once went about 18 months without winning a thing, then won three things in a month! I'm happy to just put in an entry here or there and feel lucky when I occasionally win.

Seriously... I've looked through a lot of the contest threads here. One that stuck out for me was where the OP struck up a convo with a member that does hardware reviews on a regular basis. There were, I think, three winners, and guess who one of them was? Yeah... I'm not really impressed...

My pet peeve? Nightbot randomizer that's picks the same 4-5 names over and over and over and over. It happens on every show. It's fucked up. Fix it or replace it.

#FUJQ ... Without it... there is no random and I have to work much much harder :(

Don't know about you guys, but if I DO win something on a recurring contest, I drop out for a week or two so there's no chance of having back-to-back wins. Yay - I won a free bottle of juice....step aside and let other people go at it for a while. Otherwise, it seems a little greedy.

Oh yeah, I don't have an FB account so that eliminates quite a few...

I also skip back to back contests by same vendor If I win one - somehow it makes me feel like a good citizen?

true,, but most marketing is targeting the least likely to afford if the product is pretty lame. the funny thing is,, if a contest whore wins.. they were the likely target (buyer),,,,,,,,and they won it (free).. nobody left to buy.

I participate in a lot but don't win that many but if I win one I'll drop out of future contests from the same vendor but I don't participate in one vendor after the way I was treated

What?

Good marketing targets buyers that can afford the product. Giving away a free mod or whatever, isn't going to bankrupt a company.

Glad you do, l'am confused.com. Note to self- should pay more attention to competition winners. But what can you do about it anyway?
Keep enjoying the contests but also be aware. Sometimes, I just play because I'm drinking coffee. It's fun sometimes. However, it's not fun when one see's the same person spamming threads sucking up to the host.

My best option... Don't worry about it. Enter if you want, understanding that many of them will probably be rigged by the mfr for best exposure. To be fair, who doesn't want to make the best business decision possible? Exposure = Sales so it is what it is. Personally, I'm not willing to jump through umptyjillion hoops and suck ups, so I probably won't be entering many. After all is said and done, I'm really here for all the excellent info more than anything else. :mooncat:
