Yeh, I noticed the ID thing popping up on several sites now. Not a good sign IMHO.

I've gotten numerous emails today from my local shops I frequent instructing that effective 8/8 that they will be now only be selling 30ml sizes & discontinuing all others (which I generally buy 100ml or 120ml), will have a reduced selection of flavors consisting of only their best sellers, will limit nic strengths to 0, 3, 6 & 12, will no longer be doing custom flavors and builds will no longer be offered.

Seems like the larger shops will be able to weather the storm. The smaller guys are going to have a rough time. I sure hope this gets shot down. It'd be a real shame if I have to become a criminal just because I don't want to smoke cigarettes.

This is just the beginning of the contraction of the industry which means higher prices and less selection.
Sad to say it, but I think you're all too right on this. Damn shame it's coming to this.:xD::cuss2:

The irony of that statement.

I refuse to give any information of that nature to online vape shops. It's pointless, they aren't looking at me to verify my id as a brick n mortar pos sales clerk would be. Anything digital can be faked. They have not only no face but no database access to verify my ssn or photo therefor they don't need it. Not to mention it's worse than clicking on an email attachment from a nigerian prince asking for money to help escape their country. It's identity theft waiting to happen, once you have someone's name, dob and last 4 of their social the previous numbers are relatively simple to sort out via brute force methods. Fail and more epic fail. They can blow me.. or better yet, their info first. To 'verify' that I'm dealing with a real person from a store on the other end.

They just need your ID to cover their own asses.

To give it or not is up to you, but if they are forced to require it and you won't give it then you won't be able to use their services.

Like I said, it's pointless. Brick and mortar stores get a glance, they don't get a copy for their records. They at least have a legit reason, to check the state issued id for official dob to confirm age and to check the photo to the person to verify it's you. That's it, then they hand it back. Online? I could photoshop an id with a fake photo of kim jong il, the name 'fook yoo' and they'd never be able to prove otherwise. They're also asking for ssn which is NOT part of a state issue id. Or at least it's not mine, I specifically asked for a license number to be issued so my ssn isn't floating around with my picture.

They have no valid reason for asking for such info with no way to back it up and best case scenario, kim jong il doesn't use your data to buy himself a new home theater system on your dime. Or worse. For those who think they're safe using something like lifelock, that's a joke.

Anyone remember when the ceo was so proud that he got up in front of everyone and publicly announced his social security number to prove how safe it was? Yea, he got his id stolen 13 times. Lifelock was also fined $12m from the ftc for false advertising in addition to other penalties. A company whose sole purpose is to protect your identity couldn't manage, anyone think 'rubber ducky vape shop' is going to? I'll pass.

Who asks for SSN to buy vape gear?!? I've never seen that one. I've had to click to acknowledge that I'm over 18. And had to put my DOB into a few sites, but no one has ever asked for my SSN.

I had an online shop in Texas ask last May. I declined to go through with the sale.

Vaperite is another company asking for ssn's online. Whiskey can laugh all she likes about identity theft, take a google search sometime. Or better yet post your ssn willy nilly and watch the magic happen lol. Tinfoil hat jokes won't diminish reality. It's no secret the ceo for lifelock got his ass handed to him.

Just ask Kevin Mitnick how easy it is. At a cyber defense convention last year it took him only minutes with a $.50/hit search list to nail a random audience member, had their name, dob, address, ssn etc. Then again Mitnick and his team are able to hack with 100% success rate any company they're paid to target for security checks.

It shouldn't be hard to find, just last year there have been multiple stories and warnings in the chicago suntimes, time.com etc. I suppose they're all wearing tinfoil hats too. I merely pointed it out so people might be aware just how easy it can be and now that everyone and their brother knows vape shops or online vape companies are going to be requiring this information, guess what just became a target rich environment? If I were looking to steal identities, a bunch of bofunk vape companies would be easier than taking candy from a baby. Especially when the likes of American Airlines, United, Visa/MasterCard etc can't even protect customer data.

That tinfoil hat may come in handy, if you get your identity stolen it might be the only thing you own left lol. Think I'm kidding? Sites like vaperite want this info before you can even view their site. Claiming it's because of the FDA and that 'your info will not be saved'.. ha, yea right. Then there's no reason for it.

Yea I thought the same thing f1r3b1rd, until one day a few years ago I went to buy a soda at a local convenience store. They handed my card back saying it was declined. Several more attempts, no dice. Not that I had a lot in the bank but when the last $800 you had in the bank is gone try getting gas for your car. Apparently someone in France, Lebanon and a couple other european countries wanted to be me for a short while, that's where my bank tracked the transactions to. Thankfully they were on top of it and it took 'only' around 10 days to get my money back from the bank. Those 10 days though I had to borrow gas money from my coworkers until it got sorted and I could pay them back. Common people and broke people aren't exempt, just sayin.

seems like we could take a pic of our drivers licence and send it to them in an email/upload.

Cool. I could search the internet for my doppelganger's drivers license and print one off for me. He can pay my speeding tickets and shit.

Sending folks a picture of my drivers license seems like a bad idea. Just saying.

the SSN is not for identification. The government can ask for it, but retailers and other places, I refuse. My cell phone carrier tried to get me to provide one several times, I was grandfathered in without one. They went as far as saying they would cancel my service, so I had my lawyer send them a threat-o-gram with a $$ sum attached that I would be taking them to court for a bad faith contract. They backed the hell off.

its not an easy process, but it is out there for those worst case scenrios. I had to help a client with it once about ten years ago..

I know and it's BS. I will not do it.

The Texas place claimed it was to verify age using public documents. No public documents should contain my SSN or even last four digits of it.

Pure chicanery. Glad I stockpiled because I was afraid something like this would start coming down :(

a nice tactic might be to ask for the bonding # of the insurance policy that covers identity theft for the customer up to $100K per incident. If they want to ask for personal identifiable information, the vape company should provide the same. They won't of course, they will just lose sales. Screw the FDA.

I've had one already ask for a photocopy of my DL. LightningVapes for a juice purchase. SS is not required for age verification and I certainly won't be providing it to anyone. I got another email today from another juice supplier who says they will be using Veratad Technologies that verifies from birth date and address using public records. A copy of your DL or other government issued ID will be requested only if that fails. I'm guessing it will be sorted out, they are in the business of selling stuff - for now - but SSN is a non-starter.

The trouble is the ones asking for ssn are asking for the last 4 digits. They have your name (as part of the form) and it takes very little to find out where someone was born. That fills in the first 3 digits. The only ones left to guess are the middle 2 digits and that's a finite combination. My only hope is that people are careful with their information, I personally have nothing to lose by it. For those who don't know it may save them a ton of headache in exchange for a slight inconvenience of shopping elsewhere.

Having three credit cards jacked 10 YEARS ago, I don't fiddle fuck around with my identity. Period.

It sure isn't tin foil hat shit. I worked very hard to have the credit I do. I would kill a mother fucker who would fuck that up.

Problem is, when your identity is stolen, 99% of the time you never know who it was. You are just fucked, and left to deal with the aftermath of it. Most times the identity thief isn't even caught.

You guys really shouldn't take it as a joke. You don't realize how serious that shit is, until it happens to you.

The only joking was off topic. No one took the subject as a joke that I could see. Given the amount of online ordering done by most members here I'm pretty sure almost all of them take identity theft seriously. I've had three cards hacked as well and not ten years ago. I'm cognizant and careful and still sometimes you get bit because there's too many ways it can be done. I now use a pre-paid for online stuff to limit possible damage and keep my regular card safer. At least that way I have one to use day to day while the other is being replaced.

It will be business as usual on Monday at Breazy. With the exception of the age verification and a few states we cannot ship to because of their local laws or taxes. Your favorite brands, flavors, nic levels and sizes will still be available. Only new product releases will slow down. We are well known and trusted on the VU and I'm always here to help and answer questions.

To be honest, I don't know what idiot underwriter/loan officer would even approve a mortgage for someone who doesn't have any credit. You have to borrow money to even have credit.

Getting a mortgage is the most difficult thing one ever does. You can get approved on an 80k car loan in the snap of your fingers. Getting a mortgage takes 90 days. It's hard to believe the bank wasn't in on the scam, since all the times you actually have to show your face to people in the process of buying a home.

Glad it turned out in your favor.

robo signers/approvers,, same people who approve cats and dogs for loans

i still have 'credit' back in the day they chased me down offering me million dollar loans for what ever.. then i discovered dave ramsey,, i was always good with credit,, but liked to pay things off fast. our first home paid off in 3 years.. expensive cars (2) paid off in 14 months. 2nd homes paid off fast......but as time went on,, it was too much hassel to mess with banks/loans if they are going to lend to anyone calling themselves me..........so i just use cash. the perfect credit score is 0,, and if it only takes getting bad credit to stop id theft and a stupid bank is willing to 'protect' me with a bad credit score even better.

it has been at least 10,,maybe 15 years since i have had any legit loans.

I'd send them McLovin's id.:giggle:

but in seriousness tobacco companies have websites that incorporate online age verification systems you don't have to give them a fucking copy your birth certificate and DNA to get on them.

any vendor asking for this information is either too cheap to pay for third party age verification or too stupid to understand exactly what the deeming are asking of them.

under either scenario I'm no longer going to be able to trust them with access to my hard earned money.

Actually, I just bought a home last year.... It takes 90 days to close on a home. Unless you are paying cash.

Getting a new vehicle loan is like this:
1Go look at car, make a deal with the sales person. 2 Fill out a credit app, and wait 20 minutes for approval and rate/terms. 3 Sign a mile of paperwork.
Total time? About 4 hours.
Getting a mortgage:
1 Find the house you want after filling out a pre approval for a home loan. 2 hash out price/details of the purchase with the seller. 3 Give the mortgage company reams of meaningless paperwork for the past 10 year of your life. 4 Wait two weeks and do the paperwork shit all over again because some asshole lost shit. 5 more paperwork. 6 Asshole loses shit again, do more paperwork. 7 three weeks later, asshole loses MORE shit, you have a fucking stroke and submit more meaningless paperwork, 8 They tell you they are ready to close, then the next day they want MORE stupid fucking paperwork. 9 You finally close on this fucking thing. You thought you were going to lose your mind, AND be a fucking mental vegetable. It only took 90 days.

Everyone I have talked to go through the exact same thing. Everyone. You have inspections, paperwork and nitwits that don't give a shit what they put you through.

That's about right Freemind , to the letter in fact, just forgot an appraisal mixed in there as well as quick sales (foreclosed homes as is) sometimes lessens the wait by a week or so

freemind, when I boaght my house, the report came back saying I owed a lot of money to the irs. I have a stupid common name. Took me three days to sort that shit out. Not to mention dropping whatever I was doing at work, walking out, and totally pissing my boss off whenever my loan officer would call. That was 10 years ago. Ive taken 3 auto loans, and a couple cc's. I havnt a problem .
But thanks to y'all, ill remember it is that easy to steal id.
