So I finished my first fully mechanical box mod, no soldering at all, I used African padauk wood naturally finished, just a couple light coats of acrylic clear and the button is made out of obsidian (stone).

It performs extremely well, negligible voltage drop and it feels great in my hand, it's very small but I realized this time around that I have even more room to spare (width wise), so the next one I make will be even smaller! I'm also going to make one in series, because this is just too much fun, even despite the fact that I only have non-electric hand tools at my disposal except for a hand held belt sander which has been a major time saver

Fantastic job for your first. Yea I also tend to make them bigger on the first go round and then start figuring out how to make them smaller on the next few. But you are a lot closer then I ever got on the first try. Well done.

Thank you :) I had made a wooden mosfet box a few months back, but it's a little different trying to calculate space for mechanical parts.

Now I just can't wait to get started on the next one!

Are there any tutorials or instructions or schematics or something for the connections and wiring and such? Ive got some really nice pieces of indian ebony, rosewood, and some nice flame maple I was gonna use in making guitar picks and inlays, but damn, Id love to build a sexy wooden series box.

Unfortunately there are literally none that I could find, I just stole a few ideas from looking at pictures of retail mechanical boxes, and then improvised with the materials I had.

I was thinking about making a simple tutorial with a series of photos, or maybe a video explaining how I did mine though, because I find it strange with the insane amount of wiring diagrams and tutorials for unregulated boxes that there wouldn't be any for a mechanical circuit. I'll let you know when I get around to that.

This guy shows in pretty good detail how he made his, it's pretty cool I really like the button design but it's not much help if your working with wood because he's using his aluminum casing as his negative ground

I assumed you were asking about fully mechanical mods, but if your planning on wiring a tactile switch and mosfet there tons and tons of tutorials and diagrams :) just google "diy mosfet box mod"

I love those squonkers! Very pretty. Do you find that brass holds its tension better as far as the button is concerned?

I made another, the button is just temporary until I find a piece of stone that fits. I literally made it small as I could manage to, and I'm really happy with how it turned out. Here it is in comparison to the noisy cricket

Awesome job buddy. Those are beautiful and clean looking mech mods. Not o whole lot of people create mech mods anymore sadly but I hope that will change since series mods are becoming trendy. Hope to see more of your work posted soon. You should post in mech mod sub forum and ask members for opinion maybe. You'll get more views like that and more people will become familiar with your work.

I like how compact your mods are.
Thanks a lot for the feedback man, I appreciate it. When I get back home I'm planning on making some more and I have some new ideas I'd like to try out. Thanks for the tip about the proper thread for getting some feedback, it definitely helps
