Just mixed my 2nd ever batch of this wonderful recipe. This stuff is the mutts nutz. Just out of interest what are people's favoured steep time with this recipe what with the custard in here. Just wondering how long I have to wait to enjoy this stuff at its very best?

Not sure, but this is the only recipe I've ever liked using the CAP VCv2, and only let is sit for 24hrs.
Thinking you might need to use less with FLV, probably be different but ya never know unless you try it.
Kinda doubt it would be bad though...

I've made it with Caps VC v1, but I thought it was much more buttery, and not as cakey as VC v2. I don't have the FLV VC, so I don't know which Caps version to compare it to. Maybe someone else can say. The recipe is good no matter what you stick in it, though, so go for it. I would say, however, to try it it with VC v2, since I used that specifically to get the cake going.

Well iv gone ahead with flv at 4% including the 0.5 caps v1 it tastes good straight away but will give this one a week. Iv never desired buying caps v2 before but think I will seeing this recipe, I thought if using v1 it would be too rich and overpowering so that's why I tried flv oh and because I'm impatient and wanted to try the recipe lol!!

It IS too rich, IMO. That's why I went with v2. V2 gets a lot of flac, but works well here.

It wouldn't be bad with Flavorah, but some of the "density" and richness of the cake wouldn't be there. FV custard doesn't taste like custard at all, more of a vanilla cream. It has a "thick" taste on the exhale, but not Caps v1 thick, or even v2, for that matter. It's an awesome flavor, but maybe it would lean more towards the "diet" version of Cramp's cake. ;)

Maybe I could raise the caps v1 a little from 0.5 to 1.5 possibly thicken it out a bit. Will definitely get v2 on order as this tastes great already.
What's flv custard steep times?

I don't steep it, really doesn't need it. I've had a 250ml, 8% standalone mixed for about three weeks, no noticeable changes.

I'm all for anything I don't have to wait on because I truly have no patience. I keep a bigger bottle of this mixed up, then take out 15-30ml at a time to add things to it, as per my mood. It's a good base mix to have handy.

Had to check back in to this thread to say how good this stuff is! Thanks for sharing, I know it's been up here for a while but I'm still pretty green to mixing but this stuff is a big hit for me.

FA Custard won't do, at all. V1 is your best bet, if you don't want to wait for your next flavor order, but I might cut the percentage down, since it's A LOT stronger than v2. It's also far more buttery.

Mixed this with flv custard and inw custard in the end tastes great but got caps v2 in transit now to try the OP recipe

Especially in this recipe. It's a nice balance of flavors and yeah, this recipe would be "toast" using toasted almond :D

I just mixed this with 4% v1 custard instead of the v2. Will report in a few days.

This recipe was exactly what i was looking for, it sounds so delicious, but i messed it up.

I'm mixing at 70/30 vg/pg 6m, i cannot go any higher (vg), also i only have the cap vc v1 so i used that at 8%.
Its definitely good, but its too shallow, it taste like custard, but the rest does not shine through enough.
Could i make it more creamy somehow? (maybe by adding 0.25 - 0.5 of a really buttery flavour like creme brulée?)

I really want to taste the coconut more, would it make sense to up the coconut a tad and lower the vc1 custard to 5%?

Also i dont know if anyone here knows this coconut almond sweet, but this is the flavour i more or less expected.

VC v1 is stronger than v2, and quite different IMO.
But using less will surely help get it closer.
Even tho I also have trouble actually tasting the FA Coconut myself, it still tastes great.
You can try raising the Coconut a bit but some say it gets kinda wonky if you use too much.
Also could try adding a small amount of another brand of Coconut, if you have any that is.

As a side note: I'd only change 1 thing at a time to confirm before changing any other things.

Honestly, VC v1 is not right for this recipe. I used VC v2 for a reason. You want cake, not custard. You're welcome to play around, but subbing anything for v2 isn't going to get you what this is supposed to taste like. It's like using soppressata instead of prosciutto.

9% Capella Vanilla Custard v2
1% FA Coconut
.5% FA Apple Pie
.75% FA Marzipan
.5% FA Almond

(Optional .5% Caps Vanilla Custard v1. It's not much, but ups the buttery factor just enough.)

Just wanted to say thanks to the poster for this amazing recipe! This is my ADV for the last 3 - 4 months...

I upped the coconut to 1.25 and Almond / Apple pie to 0.75. I mix by weight and these percentages work better for me.

I've made several adjustments over time, and I've been leaning more towards what you do, but I still leave the apple pie at .5%, otherwise I start tasting apple.

'Just an edit', I found 40mls I made 6 weeks ago in the cupboard and the caps v2 HAS calmed down but the coconut is toned down somewhat. I think I may make a caps v2 base and leave that to steep itself out for a month then add the final ingredients. Ymmv of course but I think this will work for me. A few drops of flv sweet coconut in addition may work for this too.
But in all I don't need to dump my v2 custard so hastily lol

Forgive my stupid question but what do you mean "base?" Like just mix up the custard with PG, VG and nic? Let that steep and th e n add the rest of the ingredients?

Yes that's exactly what I did, not a fan of that v2 at all for 3 weeks at least but it will steep out eventually.
I generally make my regular custard bases in large batches this way anyway these days let them mature for a few weeks b4 adding them into other recipes, ymmv of course

Ive been reading on this thread for about an hour and Im so stoked to make this but awaiting delivery from BCV any day now. The only problem is out of all the flavors Ive got coming I dont have the almond!! I did order Acetyl Pyrazine that says its great for bakery notes and gives a nutty/bready taste. Out of 82 total flavors I cannot think of a sub for almond. I need some help here Jason! And by the way, that is a total dickcheese thing for that fella to do with your recipe! So sorry honey!!

You didn't happen to have ordered Marzipan did you? That will work as a sub since it's essentially ... almond, lol.

This recipe has marzipan in it anyway, I dunno if adding any extra would help it or hurt it.
Man, this was a good one...I need to revisit.

I used V1 mixed a batch yesterday and it's very good today but needs to age. I don't like V2 but I'll get a 10ml in my next order so I can try it as posted.

AP or nut mix won't do it. It needs an almond extract flavor, which is why I combined the marzipan and almond. The tiny bit of apple pie is for the bakery part, though I've been toying with the idea of trying INW biscuit.

One week ageing and it's amazing. Almost spot on for a Tastycake Coconut Junior. (regional brand) A bit more cake and it's dead on.

Made 100m of this and let it sit for a month..... slammed right though it! Have another 120m sitting on the shelf cooking. Made it as posted with V2, first time I have ever used it but won’t be the last.
Thanks so much for this recipe it’s really that great!
