BIG TOBACCO LOSING ITS HOLD ON THE ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE MARKET

Today, Wells Fargo announced that Big Tobacco is losing its foothold on the electronic cigarette market. This is good news for me and other companies as well as open-format vaping systems are becoming more popular with most ecig users.

This comes as no surprise to me being that this is usually the natural progression of vapors. Their seems to be a trend with electronic cigarette users in that they will first start off with ciga-likes, then eGo style batteries, variable voltage, and then finally rebuildable tanks.

You just simply cannot get the type of hit off a ciga-like as you can with an open-format system. The ciga-like simply does not represent what the electronic cigarette consumer is looking for.

Also, in general the open-system tanks are cheaper in the long run for electronic users making it a more viable choice. There is about a 30% cost difference with open system e-cigs.

So I ask the question does big tobacco have a reason to be scared? Of course they do because they have now finally lost would they hold so dear. THE MARKET SHARE.

Just another example of behemoths moving slowly. You can't upend giant companies without entirely displacing them. Altria is a great example. They are colossal in size and hold many brands of analogs. Under no circumstances do they want open-ended systems in the free market. Who is going to buy refills? How will they be able to compete with so much selection? The business-end questions are infinite. The argument they have given so far for the FDA to drop the hammer are thus:

  1. By not regulating our industry fast, the FDA is hurting potential vapers because we do not know about the potential health benefits of vaping.
  2. There is not a level playing field in terms of regulation on them and not on us (haha, given they are basically a monopoly and do not know what competition is if it bit them in their butts).
  3. The open-ended systems have "unknown" elements that do not pass rigorous tests and are made in foreign countries. Hello! Is Lorillard and probably Blu not contracting production out to China?!
  4. TL;DR they are crying like babies because they see the writing on the wall, and the FDA's ban hammer is their last chance at survival.
