Smok TFV8 Question

Hi,

New her been vaping for about 7 months now helped me quit smoking after 40 years. I have a Eleaf TC100 that has been updated to 120. I use about 4 different tanks from an Isub Apex tank to a Crown tank. I recently bought a Smok TFV8 and love it but I am having an issue. Only used the quad coil it comes with so far, and my mod will not allow me to turn it up past 100 watts. I can turn it up without the tank I can turn it up to 120 and when I put the smoke back on it goes back to 100. It does not do this with any other tank. The coil says it can go up to 230 watts. Other issue is when my batteries are 3/4 charged and I take a hit over 2 second even at 80 watts after I release it says the batteries are empty, but go back to 3/4 charge in a second

When I try the tank on my sons Cuboid 150 it will not allow me to turn it up past 93.7.

Any help on this would be great can't wait to learn more. I love the flavour the Smok puts out it is crazy good and wild clouds.

Thanks
Water

my best guess is the mod is limiting your wattage based on the resistance of the coil.
as far as the battery warning, what batteries are you using, it'll give that warning if the batteries can't handle it

The quad coil is .15 ohms. at 100 watts it's 25 amps, that might be the limit of your mod. TBH a 100 watt mod is kinda weak to push a TFV8 tank. I vape mine at 130-150 watts depending on the coil (130 for the quad and 6, 150 for the 8)

well first off i wouldn't use that battery, also are you suing 1 battery or 2?
I'd recommend the samsung 30q or 25r for your mod, that should get rid of the battery warnings.

As far as the mod itself, it might be ok at 120 watts, you might find the vape acceptable, but personally for the smok TFV8 tank I'd look at a 150watt or higher mod. Or you could get a different tank like a clieto or TFV4 which would work fine on your current mod. It's really up to you. I'd start with the better batteries though and take it form there. You might be fine just using better batteries

If you're liking the fire bar that you're currently using on the TC100, I'll recommend a few SMOK products that have very similar fire bar so no adjustment to get used to plus these will provide more power for that TFV8.
Alien220 -fire bar
H-Priv -fire bar
X Cube Ultra -fire bar
R200 -doesn't have fire bar
If you don't like those, maybe these;
Hohm Wrecker G2
IPV5
If you want something even bigger;
Koopor Primus
Ijoy LUX
Vapmod Spartans

Touch Screen models;
Laisimo L1
Laisimo L3
Hell's Gate Touch

Other;
Vaporesso Tarot
Smok Micro One 150
Eleaf Istick TC200

I use 2 batteries. I will get some new batteries and see if that helps. I do use a Crown tank, Isub Apex tank which I love the flavour of even at lower wattage. I also have a a Clieto Tank which is great and a Arctic Horizon tank. I got the smok looking for more flavour and clouds. I like to vape at a higher hotter level to get the throat hit without going past 3 in the nicotine level. The heat gives me a feeling of smoking when at about 75 watts on my other tanks except the Apex which I do at 45 watts

If you change the coil to a .5 ohm (I don't think the TFV8 has one) you'd get higher wattage out of it.
However the mod has built in safety to prevent you from applying more power than it can safely at the resistance you are trying to run (.15 ohm)

Getting a mod with better specs will help.
Any of the mods I posted will help with that.

EDIT -- The TF-S6 (30-100 watt) is a .4 ohm coil.
If you get those coils you'd be able to turn it up a bit more.
Although you wouldn't need to.

DOUBLE EDIT -- That TF-S6 is for the TFV4 tank, NOT your TFV8 so ignore the previous edit.

Thanks, I will get another mod to make it work better. Of the mods you listed can you give me your top 5 so I can see if they are available in Canada.

With my other tanks can I still use .2 ohm coils with my TC100 and my current batteries.

Top 5 are listed in order with the exception of the HohmWrecker G2.
That one could be in ANY of the one through 5 spots depending on mood.
It also allows the capability of doing Temp Control on Kanthal wire.

I may be a bit partial to Smok mods but that is due to fit, form, and function.
If the G2 was the same size/shape as any of the first 4, it'd probably stay as my number one pick.
With its bigger/boxier shape, I'm not always in the mood to carry it around.
Although it is the lightest of them all.

The Allen 220 I can't find it in Canada, I love to look of it, I like the info on the front not the top. I would then like the X Cube Ultra or the H-Priv 220 w

Which of those would be better and what would be the best batteries to get, can I get a 28650 battery or do I have to stick with the 18650 batteries

Any of those will run any of your tanks.
You could just order online and safe a few $.
Samsung 25R, LG HE4, LG HG2, LG HE4, hell, I lost track.
As far as what one is best, they're all great mods.

Thanks, I think I am leaning towards the IPV5. I am lucky enough to be in the Tobacco industry in Canada so I can get the product at wholesale price from a few of my customers, so it might be cheaper then buying on line from the USA.

Any thoughts on the
Wismec Reuleaux RX2/3
I like mine.
However I've only used it in dual battery mode because that is what I got it for.
Some have had issues with it not recognizing the 3rd battery at times.
I've not even tested that yet.
As wth ANY Wismec you MIGHT get one with a good 510, you MIGHT get a bad one.

The IPV5 is a good solid mod.
HEAVY but well made and works great.
Also tall.
It is just as tall as the Ijoy LUX (dual 26650 mod) and the Koopor Primus

I'd stay away from wismec personally. The cubiod doesn't sound broken. It's changing the max watts based on the resistance of the coil. Smok tfv8 needs a better mod to run it

I use the tfv8 fine on a home wrecker g2. It's an amazing mod if your willing to spend that much for it. They run about 65 bucks on ecig.com with coupon code ecig10.

The Cuboid has a 25 amp limitation. If you want to run higher wattage, run higher resistance coils.

So to run it at higher watts I would need to use coils that have a higher then the .15 that the Smok has. Would a .2 or a .5 work. Sorry for the dumb questions just trying to learn this new language to me

So am I looking to keep the amp below 25. With the smoke tank what is ideal amp's
The TFV8 has many coils but mostly in the .15 ohm.
If you were to max out the 25 amp rating you'd be using 3.75 volts at 93.75 watts.
If you used a .16 ohm coil, 4 watts, 25 amps, 100 watts.

To assit, go here to the following link, pick what value you want to lock and fill in at least one additional variable.

Looks like the IPV5 has been discontinued. Unless one of my customers have it in stock I maybe out of that one.

Which would be better the H-Priv 220w or the X Cube Ultra 220w. The cost difference is only $10

X Cube Ultra 220

EDIT -- I have both.
I really enjoy both.
For daily use, I like the X Cube Ultra more.
For battery changes I definitely like the H-Priv a LOT more.
That dumb ass battery door on the X Cube Ultra is just a horrible design.
There is a small "hook" on the bottom that you must get JUST right and be holding it at the perfect angle to be able to fully close it.
I'm not saying it is impossible to get it right the first time, but you have to be careful and paying close attention.
There the H-Priv just has the simple slide/lock to close.

Keep in mind I MAY like the X Cube Ultra more for daily use because I got the stainless version and did a little "matchy-matchy" with a stainless Smok Minos 25 tank so the damn thing just looks awesome.
At the same time I have 4 H-Privs and have the three new color versions on the way.
The only difference is they have an Orange fire bar instead of red.
If they made a stainless H-Priv, it'd definitely be my fav.

EDIT -- AGAIN
The LED lights are adjustable in color and how they respond on the X Cube Ultra.
It also has (similar to a cell phones heptic feedback) a vibration when you press buttons.
Neither of those "features" make the mod any better.
I'm sure they are things that'll cause at least a few customers to buy it but for me they were just like buying a bag of dog food and when you get home you find out you got a coupon inside that bag for a discount off your next bag.
You'll lose it before you go get the next bag.
It was nice to know you had it but didn't add any real value.
It also has bluetooth if you need that capability.
The next version out will have a coffee maker and microwave built in.

The above is too funny at times.

I don't need all those extra features like vibration or blue tooth.

I was just curious if they added anything major in the newer version. To put it into car references did they change the engine or keep it the same and add heated mirror, auto wipers and lights to the newer model

Ok I am here to bug everyone again. I had decided on the X Cube Ultra then found out today from the distributor that the Alien 220w will be available on Monday. Which of these two is better, I like the display on the side since that is what I am used to. Are there any major differences between the 2 units.

Thanks

the only differences i can see is the ultra has the led light and bluetooth and the alien does not. So if those don't matter to you, take which everyone you prefer. I've heard good impressions on both

Blue Tooth is not an issue, 1 less thing to go wrong. Not sure where the led light is so I will have to look into that

it's in the bar. you can customize the color and when you press the fire button the xcube ultra will vibrate and the LED lights up. It's all cosmetic only. It's pretty cool IMO but far from needed. really up to you.

The Alien is smaller and lighter so if that plays a factor it should help you choose.
They are about equally efficient so nothing to note there.
As far as operationally, specs are about the same, nothing to write home about.
I enjoy both a lot.
I don't care a lot for the battery door on the Ultra but I've noticed some slight display variations on the Alien.
(doesn't affect function, just the AMP and VOLT readings)
Since these aren't adjustable it isn't a huge concern and they aren't off much.
If I had to pick just one.......that's a tough one.
My Stainless Ultra just looks bad ass.
My red Alien is cool but strictly based on appearance I'd go for the Ultra.
Maybe that's because I don't have the Orange Alien yet.
Can't find the damn thing anywhere in stock.

So it may not be the cases of newer is better. If the Ultra is as good as the Alien and the H-priv is the same as the Ultra either one would work. Might come down to a cosmetic decision as I think all the prices will be with in $10.00 of each other ranging from $55 to $65

Finally the Alien220w arrived in Canada and I picked one up today. So far I am loving it. What a difference it made with the tank. I got the good LG batteries for it as well and I think that helps as well. I will use my old mod for smaller tanks with higher resisantce coils. Thanks for all the help and for the suggestion of the Alien220w Paratech was a great suggestion

Mine burned up fast.Anybody know of a tank that doesn't burn up fast?
That would be dependent on what juice you are using (sometimes thicker juice, higher flavor concentrate, sweeter, more desert or dairy can shorten coil life)
Also your settings greatly affect the coil life.
If you were to burn one dry as well.
Some people have great life with a lot of different coils that I only get 1-4 days from.
Then again I get 2 weeks (using 25-45 ml per day) from the .3 CLP2 coil @ 55 watts of the Smok Micro TFV4
My DIY juice is 30% flavor, extremely sweet, and I use a LOT of it.
At the 2 weeks and 2 days mark it is normally still going along just fine but starting to produce a little less flavor than when new.
Then the Smok TFV4 full size .15 TF-Q4 @ 110 watts I only get about 4 days on average.

I think what I need is a 1 month lasting coil sitting in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket of juice on top a car battery.
That'd do it.
