I'm getting better, but my wicks still need work. These are my 3rd and 4th ever builds. Please don't laugh. Ok, you can laugh, but please do it quietlyuploadfromtaptalk1469222317999.jpguploadfromtaptalk1469222324884.jpguploadfromtaptalk1469222331146.jpguploadfromtaptalk1469222341679.jpguploadfromtaptalk1469222374979.jpguploadfromtaptalk1469222416991.jpg
My 5 th build (I was finally able to use coils I wrapped myself) turned out a little better. But my wicks still aren't quite even and perfect. They do work, though. And this is fun.

this is fun
agreed

dont feel bad about your first few tries, we all started somewhere. theres a pic of @CrazyChef first build on the forum somewhere and its a perfect example of the progress you can make through experience and practice. keep it up. the fun is only just beginning for you, if you are interested and entertained enough to keep going into claptons and beyond, this can be a very rewarding endeavor. right now, this is the only 'hobby' activity i really have time for, and it feels like its the only thing keeping me sane some times...stop in to the post your builds thread. there are lots of pros and rookies alike, all sharing tips and pics and experiences.

Thanks.
Yeah I saw that @CrazyChef first build pic on another thread. Hilarious, considering the current skill level.
I wouldn't have posted my first ones if I wasn't at least a little proud of myself. If these had been awful, I wouldn't have shown them.
My first three builds I used pre wrapped coils, and two of those on that tiny little rebuild thing that came with the kanger sub tank. I failed there, I used coils that ohm out right, but somehow kept shorting. So I moved into something I could actually see. And now I'm digging it.
I wrapped a few Clapton coils today, but so far, I like the way that the solid wire heats more evenly. I guess I need to keep playing with those Clapton 's.
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm having fun .

doesnt look bad. try cutting the tails of the wick right after it overhangs from the deck... if that makes any sense.
the tips should just be touching the well, if you lay them under your coil like that it kills airflow, which can be used in your favor in rdas with a lot of room and no airflow control. i do that to kill space and tighten the draw.
but in your case (and in most) youre better off just touching the deck.

a little dirty, but you can tell what i mean... the wick is just on the deck and not really folded under the coil.
also, i like my wick tight, to where i have to apply a little force but not too much where its unraveling. then i lightly tug on both ends so the wick gets situated.
not really the authority on the matter by any means but that coil can get 150+ watts a few times consecutively and the wicking keeps up... i can vape it til bone dry and not get that nasty dry hit... just enough to where i have to redrip.

Just build and wick..... I used to build some ugly fucking coils...... But they tasted good and looked good in my eyes.......

Until somebody laughed and said man that's a fucked up looking coil....... Then I watched YouTube videos day and night for fucking months.......

Now people say that's a nice coil and properly wicked.......

Thanks to that one guy........

That saying goes beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Probably alot my coils are still fucking ugly. They work for me whatever I put them in. Plus you cant see them and no dont ask I anit showing shit. Wicking is easy and you know how easy that is to start over. I need to stop being lazy and get with a couple different people and see if I can get help with wrapping wire.

When I first started DIY ing I found the coil building was actually quite easy, much to my surprise, but that the wicking was the difficult part - mine were initially either so tightly packed that they'd move the coil or so thin that they did little good...but eventually with the help of forums and YouTube tutorials I got the hang of it.

Actually I do agree with the earlier posts though - so long as the wick works properly that really is the main thing.

My first experience at wicking was a disaster, but I was the idiot to try my hand at Pima Cotton right off the bat, always wondered why my wicks never looked like anyone else. o_O You are doing good and keep at it.
