Nice one Ray, when you say you hand spaced, how do you mean, do you mean you spun the ribbon's in a hand vice or?
Handspaced the staggered/spaced Ribbon center...its a bit harder to get it even that clean when handspacing...its a challenge in itself

My Team is having a "Alien Challenge" this week...I couldnt figure our what to make so I made these designs this morning...though for some reason the Spaced Enigma caught my eye the most and I decided to use it.

Wow, I didn't know you could space alien wire consistently. Is that all there is to it? Just lead at a sharper angle?

And to do the mohawk, are you just letting it take one more loop?

Those were all done using the same exact wires, only the stretching and wrapping with different tension was altered.
If you understretch enough you can space it how ever you'd like by pulling forward and adding tension;)

Mohawk (pointy tip) Just needs 2 widths of alien wrap to cover one side of a wire, the alien wrap starts and ends on one side.

The Enigma uses a half of a alien to go around the frames and the center of the wire have the beginning and end of 2 wraps.

IMG_20161021_125125400.jpg 20160909_110039.jpg

If you think of the Alien as a wide width short height diamond or a Rhombus a Mohawk uses the wide width triangular tips to go over the wire, the enigma uses the short height triangle tips to go over the wire.

Cool, I didn't know any of that. I'm glad I ordered so much 36g now.
My drill makes spacing hard and aliens. It doesn't really do "slow".
It's a $30 Black and Decker from wally world so learning new stuff is rough. The chuck sucks too.

Gracias!

I dont think theres a build besides SSFC's that I havent gone full speed on, try altering the hieght of your swivel and then trying different tensions/stretching for spacing

I can't alien at full speed. I can but I'm more likely to make a mistake.
My alien skills are still pretty green.

Edit:
I'm not one to recieve advice and not use it though. Making decore now. Wide open it is.
How fast do your drilks turn? Mines cheap but still does 3200rpm. But the chuck sucks and so does most everything else. Lol.
I usually alien at half speed. Less on staples.

On ECF Tom and Slippy have given me loads of advice and I tried all of it. Some here too.
Whether they worked for me or not is a different story.
It's wierd how many people do this stuff totally different from each other but get the same results.

EDIT2: Sure enough, it's better. It's like a clapton. The faster you go, the farther you can angle it.

Had the house to myself so played a bit. Still practicing my staggertons. I can't seem to get them perfect. Slowly but surely I guess.

And my first polished and I guess extension(?) build.

I forgot to comment on these. Staggerton looks phat man.
The polished one looks good too even if it got scrapped.
How does polished wire vape? And better than unpolished?

I have 2 drills I use. One that does 3000rpm for Microclaps and Alien prep/clapton decore/ect, and my main drill which is a Ryobi One+ (1800rpm) that I build everything on.Once you get a groove for seeing how it wraps then wrapping faster makes it easier as when I slow down I move more per inch then I would have if I went twice as fast and therefor creating more mistakes in the same length of wire. If I can hold rock solid for one second at fullspeed then I can cover atleast 3-4" of wire without any issues, if I was going slower then Id get half the wire done and move around...see what Im saying?

First build back. Been on a year long analog relapse. Finally got moved into the new house and got my gear going. Decided to start back up with a simple fused claptons. 26g 316l/36g A1, kidney puncher wire (all I use) with some native wicks platinum. 6 wrap at 3mm. Checks in...ohm meter is dead. Iirc this build is around .3? Zombie slammed tugboat, homemade mech box with one 25r (new ones come tuesday). Liquid is a diy almond strawberry custard.

Native Wicks was the best cotton I had ever used.
Anyone that uses cotton should try it atleast once.

How do you relapse back to cigs?!
After breaking the habbit (about a week) I couldn't stand them.

DIY juice is the same way. I've disliked everything I've tried since then.

Work got in the way, life got in the way. They just became easier. But now I've seen the error of my ways. Back down the rabbit hole

I'm so damn happy! I've been struggling with staggering...well, spacing to be more specific. Went to Walmart and got 3 2.5oz sinkers (fishing weight) and 1 is perfect.
I was able to go fast and change the angle of attack and get the same spaces.
I had to tell someone. Lol.

SSFCs here I come.

Put some Coil picks up let's see how those fishing weights made you prettier coils......

Haven't made any yet. I still have to get the frames and the ribbon to stay put. It's easy with normal wire but the spaced clapton doesn't give you much to bind to that's solid. I'll figure it out.
Also, I can't bang a coil and it's late. :p

I did manage 36g aliens though. 3x 316l 26g/36g A1. I didn't post because these were just for practice last night.

I forgot to take a picture when i did my first build and didn't feel there was a need for a new thread for it.

The tank is el diablo rta, it's my step son's, but he's letting me use it. previously it was leaking and was at 1.0 ohms. My build has no leaks and is at .38 ohms. Not too shabby for my first build.

Set your wire up so its ready for fuse in your hand.
Try using a 2" peice of Ribbon wire and wrap it loosely around your wire 5-6 times, then lightly pinch with NYLON pliers. Make 4-5 more depending on the length of your wire and then start fusing it!
Its how I do all my Builds anyway

@ Raymo2u You use a swivel or free hand?

@MannyScoot
I didn't post them because I was embarrassed. Lol.
I should be embarrassed, I wrap it with a swivel but sometimes too fast and when I slow down they come out nice then the wire looks sometimes like it's too far away and there is a gap, then I try to back up and fuck everything up..... It is a pain in the ass making coils. .

Tugboat V2 28ss/36a1 staggered, only came out with enough decent wire for one coil. Don't have my reading glasses yet, makes working harder.

Only been building again for 24hours. Going to try framed staples again next. Is there a good thread with tips on making them good?

I use a SpinLT from USAOhmMeters...they were my sponsor about 6 months ago and sent it...I stopped using swivels the day I got it
That spin LT is the same as a fishing swivel..... I make coils in a garage man cave.... Using that spinLT takes the creativity of a broke mother fucker like me away.... And I'm not paying $35.00 for that piece of plastic.....

Lately Ive been working on handspacing. Spacing and staggering by just eyeballing it, Im trying to get it down so I can do it on the fly with nothing at all and still pull off my normal builds. Here's my attempt this far, I think Ive got it down to the point where I dont need anything but I do feel I can improve still.

These attempt were all the same except the amount of Ribbon Wire, they are .3 ribbon, 30g frames with 40g Stagger/Fuse...all Handspaced.

So hooked up a swivel and holy shit is it night and day wrapping. Busted out a perfect claptop around 1.5ft and then tried a fused clapton, got that as well. Will post pick of it in the Tokugawa. Then I said screw it, lets try an alien since I felt like I had the builders mojo flowing. De-cored it great, stretched perfect, but my wire bundles into a triangle wrapping it, so I got like 1 inch sections of an alien triangle thing, like extreme mohawk look if you wrapped it that way. Pretty proud builder today. Now let me get this damn pic up of my fused.

Great man, Now just find the right pressure on the drill/swiffels so ur cores stay straight.
Keep it cloudy :bliss:
